This guy, with all types of fear and adrenalin coursing through his system, his fight or flight response now on a hair trigger, suddenly overcomes all that, and is a relaxed coochy-coo snake charmer? Without any narcotics being involved to suppress the hormones coursing through his brain, that would make him not want to go near anything strange and alive, considering how freaked out by strange dead things. That doesn't add up for me.

I'll admit I've never seen anyone high on weed on another planet with a snake, so I have not much to compare that scenario to. But I have seen plenty of people who have been terrified, and they don't normally go from very edgy, to carefree and uncautious without the introduction of chemicals such as alcohol or THC etc.

The corpes are massive and in numbers and the ping is an unknown lifeform. He prolly thinks he can handle a 40in snake worm

Easy to say when not there... but the corpses are DEAD i.e. not a threat, and they have holes in them, and they have no idea what killed them, so there is an unknown deadly threat out there. And in these circumstances, our brain has evolved the good old fight orflight response which tends to over-ride our curiosity and Dr. Doolittle urges. I could imagine Milburn being careless if he'd encountered a new animal somehwere in the wild, but not if he'd passed a bunch of dead bodies on the way, and had no idea what killed them. That would put your brain into a high state of exceitment, not conducive to risk taking unless it's jumping away from a greater perceived danger.

We'll have to disagree on this one, but it was a good debate nontheless. Happy Canada Day.

@Hadley's Hope Hotboxed in the respirator...well, that doesn't seem to help. Even if they didn't have to remove helmets, isn't the whole point of a respirator that it's a closed system? As the system is closed, either the stuff is in, before the system is closed, or it's out. If it's out, then it's out - and to get it in, that system would have to be opened: or, are you about to tell me with conviction how these particular respirators do in fact have a facility for allowing the introduction of foreign combustible material into that system, so that the user may freely toke on it? Or that they've modified the respirators or their supply, off-screen, to allow for introduction of foreign material for the purposes of toking, on the fly? Please don't. Let's say that they are the usual kind of rational respirators people use that don't allow for that kind of thing. That would then necessitate that either: a] Milburn would have had to open his respirator to insert some hash. Or b] Milburn would already had to have had hash in his respirator, all along - but that would make his entire conversation about what Fifield was smoking completely redundant, unless he forgot he had hash in his respirator and then remembered off-screen, between shots because he was that stoned all along, even though we never see him smoke in all that time, at all, not once. To me, the circumstances are starting to strongly suggest that Milburn is not smoking hash therefore not likely to be stoned on it. There isn't an indication that Milburn is stoned at all - there is only an indication that Milburn is foolish. Where, "stoned", versus, "foolish", becomes a matter of interpretation then clarity on his state is very easily achieved, defined by what is allowed within the context and action, as above - ie: seems to me, as it would be a little difficult for him to be stoned, he is simply foolish. So what if plenty of things happen of screen? I would have thought it apparent that the fact doesn't mean that [i]anything[/i] is likely to happen off-screen? Otherwise a film, literally, stops functioning as a film. What happens off-screen needs to be plausible within the context of having a likely and believable relationship to the narrative, in terms of it's relationship to what [i]does[/i] happen on-screen. Some, "things," happening off-screen that do fulfil that requirement is not some kind of license that passes other, "things", which quite obviously do not, in any way, fulfil that requirement. Two people die off-screen. I could choose connect their deaths to what does happen on-screen by means that have a likely and believable relationship to the actual narrative we were supplied with and with events such as do happen on-screen: or, I could say they were abducted for secret experimentation by the three Engineers who were in those stasis pods, but were not actually dead. They were actually alive the whole time they were just hiding and using a big machine to create the storm - but all of this, apart from the storm, happened off-screen. Seems to me, that would be an entirely different kind of enterprise than, "choosing what to believe". But, look: have it your way, man....

There is no problem with them opening helmets or anything else. The air in the room they are in is breathable remember? They can close the system again, and not die of Carbon Monoxide induced hypoxia while it's off line. How exactly they open it neither of us know, but if one of them managed it, surely it can be repeated. So, it's entirely possible, and given the sudden change in Milburn That's not just 'anything' happening off screen, it's something that seems strongly impied by the circumstances of Milburn switching from being terrified to being completely free of caution, until it's too late. As I've said, even a stupid person, would have the evolutionary fight or flight system working in their favour after all the adrenalin etc from the earlier encounters. A calming narcotic fits the bill perfectly, and there is means, motive and opportunity to use one. I don't think its a huge stretch at all. Just like the circumstances of the two dead guys - We never see them leave the ship on any away party, but a simple count of ships crew shows that [url=http://www.prometheus-movie.com/community/forums/topic/8055]2 people are unaccounted for.[/url] In the shot where Shaw looks in the door to the med pod chamber, when she hears the thumping in the lifeboat, there is blood smeared in a line about the width of a human hand on the inside of the door. You can't claim abduction because those two guys never left the ship. That would be wholly unsupported by circumstantial evidence. What amazes me that is if it were Cannabis...(which I would prefer myself) The guy was total freaking out earlier (had already smoked)so WHY would he want to induce Paranoia? Fifield was smoking bud, you can hear his respirator bubble while taking a hit. Milford was just being the idiot he was already portraying in a previous seen stating something about alien piss. The entire seen was truly unnecessary imo, why even have it in the movie, but then those 2 characters were pointless anyway. I went and watched the movie a 3rd time this pass weekend, BLAZED by the way, and the scene was still pointless, but I wanted to share the moment w/Fifield, lmfao....................
