WARNING: Don't say the phrase 'plot hole'

Not that hard to find, so I'm not patting myself on the back or anything.
OBVIOUS SPOILERS.
Some may even ruin the movie completely for you, or perhaps ADD to the intrigue?

The downside:
Seems like anybody and everybody can post, and edit, without any real verification or proof of being right or wrong. (Unless obviously somebody points out something VISUALLY wrong with the movie(s) that can just be verified by viewing it.) For example In this scene, left shoe is untied, and in the next scene right shoe is untied.

I never really noticed any plotholes in the movie. Nothing huge, or more than the ones in any other movie anyways.

Me neither, I love the movie, and I believe all the things that most people are calling "plot holes" are on purpose to add to the mystery by Ridley. But just thought I'd add this for people to ponder over when they check out the link.
July 12, 2012
I agree. I saw no plot holes. Can't help but think if the internet had been around in '79, people would have called the derelict and the jockey a "plot hole".
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.
July 12, 2012
Agreed, what happened to just enjoying a really cool movie? Alien has "holes" big enough to drive through, if anyone cared to admit it...
July 12, 2012
No disrespect to you, deftones. Some of the negative stuff IS interesting, and some of it is true, but a lot of it is just gratuitous.
July 12, 2012
wow...ive noticed that many people commenting on "plot holes" are, in fact, not commenting on plot holes at all. Alot of things ive read online go like this: this movie is "stupid" = plot hole. i dont understand x = plot hole. Damon lindelof is the antichrist = plot hole. Im not saying Prometheus is a flawless masterpiece, but perspective is playing a big part in many of these so called plot holes.

It seems to ME, that none of you are checking out the link that I put up.
And all of a sudden,, now we're talking about the (excuse my language) God damn definition of a plot hole.
Holy (excuse my language again) shit, I thought I made it easy enough to click on the link and maybe read something for like 3 or maybe 4 minutes.
So I guess I have to make it easier and paste some of the things mentioned at the website. Not that any of you even made it this far down reading anyway.
- Near the end of the movie after the two ships have crashed, Shaw is lowering the remains of David out of the crashed ship to the ground. Despite having her helmet on her hair is blowing in the wind.
- In the scene in the ship where Charlie exhibits the ancient artifacts depicting the solar system to which they are traveling, he shows an artifact from Sumer, Babylonia, and Mesopotamia, and refers to these as "unconnected" cultures. In fact, the terms Sumer and Babylonia both refer to ancient Iraq, also known as Mesopotamia. The terms Sumerian and Babylonian are generally used to refer to different time periods in Mesopotamian history. These three terms refer to the same culture, and are not at all unconnected as Charlie said.
- When Shaw is on the planet surface towards the end of the film, she isn't wearing any gloves. Later on, she suddenly has gloves again.
- In the scene with the crashed escape pod, the entire scene is upended with books and stuff everywhere. Yet there is a bottle of Vodka sitting perfectly upright on the bar in the background.
- In the scene where the Prometheus is taking off, you see Vickers getting up in the shot of the captain, then it switches to the close up of her and she is getting up again.
- Upon reentry, a crew member comments that the atmosphere is like "breathing through an exhaust pipe, C02 is over 3%, two minutes without a suit and you're dead." However, human beings can live in an environment of over 5% CO2, with only mild discomfort in the 3% range.
- As the group is getting in their suits before going to make contact with the last engineer, Shaw is talking to David and bends over in pain in a medium shot. The camera then goes out to a master shot, where Shaw is suddenly upright and bends over again.
- The geologist and the biologist leave the group to return to the ship after finding the dead engineer. We are later shown that neither of them ever left the alien facility. But when the others leave the facility, Holloway says "Damn it, they've already taken off", implying that a vehicle is missing, considering that he didn't make this assumption until seeing the vehicles. But we can see that there are no vehicles missing, nor is there any indication that either the geologist or the biologist had ever left. Holloway's dialogue doesn't make any sense.
- When Shaw programs the AutoMed for an abdominal surgery to remove a "foreign body" the machine proceeds to perform a Caesarian section. Since it was calibrated only for male surgery, the entire female reproductive system would have been considered a "foreign body", and the machine would have performed a hysterectomy.
- Shaw finds Holloway's ring and puts it on her ring finger - a perfect fit, despite the fact that she's a really-petite 5'4" woman and her boyfriend's a well-built 5'11".
- The ship travels approximately 35 light years, yet Vickers (Charlize Theron) comments they are half a billion miles from Earth. That would barely get them past Jupiter, much less another solar system.
So call them "plot holes" or "ass holes" for all I care.
Point is they are interesting, and give you an excuse to watch the movie again.
So enjoy, I guess......
Yeah I'm a dick, but I still love ya'll

LMAO thatnk you @tankgirl...............
Sometimes a simple point can't be made simple enough, but at least SOME of the people on here get it, you included.

Was a plothole... was no plothole... or was no plothole, but was a hint... or was a hint and a metaphor, but not a plothole.
DAMN!
WHO THE HeLL CARES?
This is a MOVIE!
And as we HAVE TO DISCUSS over and over again, something MUST NOT BE RIGHT about this story!
It is not necessary to anlyze over and over again - you will never come to an END - AND THATS EXACTLY IT! Thats the game. Give them something to play with - but dont let the game EVER be over, so dont give them enough to solve the puzzle.. and we all play the game for month...
human beeings are so easy to manipulate... thats marketing.

It also seems to ME that looking beyond the self righteousness evolving in this thread, a plot hole and mistake are two different things altogether. So why it's even been given this title is misleading for starters.
None of those links are directly affecting, conflicting with or misdirecting the plot. They are production, editing and continuity oversights.
They've just been posted by pedants that have nothing better to do than over analyse a film they've downloaded a crappy CAM rip of to crack one off to when they pick one up.
Be far more gracious in accepting you've missed the mark here. I think people far more respect it when others can admit to their mistakes. Ironic eh?

@ Nuck Chorris and MVMNT
This is a sci-fi mystery movie to be enjoyed and marketed as such.
So plot holes and mistakes are going to be discussed as a result of the genre of THESE TYPES OF MOVIES.
So just shut up and either play the game EVEN IF IT NEVER ENDS OR THE QUESTIONS ARE NEVER ANSWERED.
ORRRRRRRRRR
explain to me the definition of plot hole, mistake, dick hole, editing error, lighting and shadowing fuck up, wardrobe malfunction. As if my topic was trying to discuss this, no I was just giving information for people to check out. The End on that part.
If you guys aren't going to contribute opinions based on the contents of the movie, then why do you keep trolling, and putting down people who want to talk about the mystery behind the movie, or put down the people who want to talk about the viral videos, or the religious aspect, or the scientific aspect?
Give some points on the actual movie Prometheus, not how to make a movie, and then profit from it.
If you guys don't want us to talk about the movie AT ALL WHATSOEVER, then just say it already.
And @ Nuck Chorris, its supposed to be Chuck Norris..........or is that a plot whole, or a mistake, or a marketing scheme on your behalf, or is it that you think it make his name look funny, or is it a part of science fiction?
All in all, I've seen most of what you two guys have posted and replied on this forum. And frankly, I think you guys just actually hate your lives and want to bring everyone else down to your levels of miserableness.

There is obviously a difference between a plain old movie mistake (including continuity errors) and plot inconsistencies. Instead of recycling a list of alleged mistakes here, put them on movimistakes.com. I will personally have a lot of fun seeing many of them later progressed to the section marked "Corrections".

NOt quite sure I get the point of this thread. There's already an "Ultimate plot holes/questions and answers debate thread" that's been stickied for ever. In that thread it's gone over numerous times that the majority of these "plot holes" are not "ploy holes" at all but simply unanswered questiuons.
What exactly are you trying to acomplish with this thread that can'[t be acomplished in the original?
As far as the "Ultimate" thread I've been putting it off and putting it off as far as updating it because there is a glitch with the edit function. That and I haven't had much time on the board lately and as you can see there are like 250+ pages of questions and answers.

See, now I can't even edit the post above due to the same error I get constatnly. I've notified admin and he said he'd see what he could do but that was ages ago and he's busy as hell.
What I wanted to add above was that a long time ago when I first statred that thread I wanted to edit the title and put quotes around the phrase plot holes. I only used the "plot holes" because that's what all the haters were saying the film was full of. I wanted to start a thread that showed that most of these so callled "plot holes" were simply questions that could be answered rather easily with a little thought. That's why I added "Questions and Answers" after "plot holes".
Now I know the film's not perfect and there are a few plot holes but nothing like most seem to imply.

Yeah, the movie was brilliant, and we are all full of bitterness as our life is so sad and so its our hobby to let you down - is that what you want so say?
Prometheus was NICE in many aspects, much better Sci-Fi Movie then many many others, no question!
But it COULD have been MUCH better with little changes and additions, thats an opinion.
Why do you watch a football game till the end?
Cause you want to see the OUTCOME, some CONCLUSION?
Why not stop 20 minutes before its over?
You have seen already who plays nice that day, you have seen nice audience to the game, nice footbool players.. so WHY watch till the end?
As you have SEEN who plays better and who worse, you may "conclude" who will make the race, you dont need to know the final outcome of the game, right?
So, WHY should we accept a sci-fi movie (and THATs what it wants to be - this is NOT a David Lynch Half-Sleep Dream Unlogic Movie) as "masterpiece", when it rises WAY TO MANY QUESTIONS instead of answering questions rised even BEFORE the movie came to cinema?
This is just an "appetizer", and now we have to wait for years to get some answers - or even get DEEPER into this mind-raping riddle-diddle without any satisfaction? Maybe question of taste, or maybe you just want to see what you want to see.
So they want to do some new interpretation of the things that happend to jesus christ, want to do some interpretation of answers to questions like "where do we come from, whats our purpose" etc - but they DONT SAY IT what they WANT to say! Thats NUTS! And not satisfying.
Anyway, i dont care very much...
have a nice time, dude(s)!
