I really thought Prometheus was gonna be well-received, box office success, and everybody on the internet will be discussing about this movie for months after the release date. But as it turns out, everything I predicted turned out to be the opposite. Almost everyone hated it, box office was underwhelming and there's just no excitement for this movie like other blockbuster movies. I loved Prometheus and it's just feels kind of underwhelming to see how little of interest there are around this movie and so much criticisms toward it.

TDKR is a *better* movie than Prometheus. It is better written and better edited. Bane's mask and its impact on the audio is a bit problematic, and the "Batman voice" is what it is... what it always has been... but overall it's a great movie. Not perfect, but impressive and enjoyable to watch. Christopher Nolan is to be praised for his efforts.

Prometheus and TDKR are two completely different beasts. I really dont see how the two can be compared (beyond: which one do you prefer/ which one is more in line with your aesthetic sensibilities?). Personally, prometheus is more my cup of tea. Beyond being impressed with heath ledger's performance of the joker, there is really nothing for me in this latest batman trilogy. Though i wish prometheus would have had a warmer reception, im not bothered by batman's success (nor suprised by it). At the end of the day, all that matters to me is that i found prometheus to be a very compelling and enjoyable film. Im just thrilled that it got made and that it was the cerebral, questioning, multifaceted beast that it was rather than just another alien/facehugger/egg romp (alien: zero).

I have to disagree. Prometheus has been out for a good amount of time, and I for one have seen a lot of discussion that still happens everyday since... Just saying. Glad you liked it keep-itreal

i agree, i thought this film going to be much more well received and still going strong at this point. when i left the theater the first time i saw it, i was sure it was going to blow the lid off this summer. it felt huge to me, and i thought this was going to be the film that everyone sees this year. the friend that saw it with me was also very exited about it after we watched it and we talked about it all day. i then tried to drag anyone i could to go see it and recommended it to pretty much everyone. then suddenly i hear a lot of complaining about it and a million reasons people are disappointed at best and downright furious in some cases. and now its only playing 1 time per day in my area and it just didnt preform as i expected after actually seeing it. ive said it before, but Prometheus goes right next to 2001 on my shelf. one of the best films ive seen, i just wish more people enjoyed it or at least didnt feel disappointed or let down about it. that being said i have to point out that i have heard from many people who loved it as well, its just that the people who dont love it are very serious and intense about how much they dont love it and that tends to stick in the mind... although even hearing people say things like "it isnt that bad" or "i kind of liked it..." disappoints me as well. i really thought everyone would be going crazy (in a positive way) about this one. i know i am.

I enjoyed it, but it wasn't great. Not at all as creepy as I thought it was going to be. I actually got more chills from the very first leaked trailer.

That's a cop out though Vickers, and an insult as far as I'm concerned.

Prometheus seams to be a film with alot of "highlights", we go from the cave drawings (realtime) to a ship flying across the screen, we never see ,the building of prometheus, the hand picked crew, or the launch.....its like the whole film was seen thru (maybe) Davids eyes?.Even though its not filmed from a POV perspective.....it bouces around alot...Maybe what we see was a "data stream" of what happened, and we get a broader picture of the whole epic encounter this fall?......HMMMMM Do androids dream of electric sheep?

I believe people are still expecting a Space Horror flick to be a box office mega success. It won't be. It is doing pretty well and Asia asn't seen it yet. On the other side TDKR is the last installment of a very well received trilogy, so peeps are gonna go for that. Prometheus failed due to several things, the 3 most important ones being: - that the actual film does not deliever the scares the trailers do - Oddities in the screenplay - many ideas in it weren't fully explored and a lot of nonsense was stretched. But in what box office is concerned [as if that mattered] is doing pretty good for it's genre.

I loved the film Prometheus... if synical it could almost been seen as a very long trailer and set up for the next film... I think (like BladeRunner) however unappreciatted it was a cult classic and will be remembered well in time to come! I Love it.. To find out the Jockey was a very/unvery Human-like being.. to find that the same species that (may) have created the Alien... Not what was expected... to be honest is that not the key to that genre - the best is the unexpectedI love the ambiguity (I mean it gives all here something to talk about!) Scott managed to change the Who or What we were left with afterv Alien into the where and how! Not everybody manages that. The film (I felt) involvbed me by raising questions and did not patronise me (which I feel with a lot of the GCI dependant sci-fi of the last 25 yrs or so!) Yes I thought it would be more spooky and darker, but although I felt let down straidht after seeing it (preconceptions should be challenged).. by the time I got home I was in love with it... It grew in me so fast, at first like a malgnant growth and then like a proud scar. As fo my opion of Batman he is rich enough to be poor(so can't relate) and he wears a cape and face covering (Gimp or Masichist i can't make my mind up)? wHEN THE MASKL GOES ON HE SOUNDS LIKE HE IS GARGLING WITH GRAVEL... and I'm supposed to think this deviant is super? so all I can say is, I won't let it put me off Bale - His acting in Empire of the Sun gave the book a face!

Batman without heath ledger? :/ If it were to be heath ledgers second movie, trust me I could have ditched entire alien franchise for his performance. I mean it seriously. Batman is never going to be the same without that joker. People are going to watch batman assuming it was the same like last time. I am sure they are going to be disappointed.

@ Vickers- I don't think the theatrical release needs any redeeming, however I would agree that the blu-rays extra content and deleted scenes could certainly enhance the experience of the film. All of the extra stuff won't change the plot or the outcome of what we saw in the theater. @NYFM- I heard about that tragedy this morning, so sad, that could've been anybody in any theater and any movie, just so random. I would think that it would hurt the movie more than anything, it's already had all the publicity it's needed to get people into the theater; now people may think twice before going.

Do both movies attract the same movie going crowd? I don't see many comparisons of the two movies..except from the Prometheus camp... I don't have a problem with TDNR being a success,,, I do have a problem with Prometheus not having a great positive buzz....

@OP- What do you mean almost everybody hated it? 72% of the audience liked it according to Rotten Tomatoes. You'd have to flip those numbers for that to be an accurate statement. As far as everybody on the internet discussing it, well, here we are discussing it right now. Avengers made a ton of money and was a huge success, but I haven't seen or heard too much about it on the internet lately either.

@Indy John- I agree, I don't think there's any surprise as to the success of TDKR. Weren't all 3 comic based movies pretty much guaranteed hits this summer? At least we got a big budget sci-fi film along with them.

I went to see it here in the UK this weekend. I can tell you why it's been getting some love - tragic, tragic events aside. It's a far more complete and accomplished film than Prometheus. Simple as that. No glaring gaps in the narrative, no loose ends. But that's because it's the end of the trilogy. It had to be that, and it had to be damn good. Scott and Nolan are two different directors, and two different films. Prometheus has left people with a lot of gripes, and a lots of unanswered questions, but we have two more movies to cover that in before it should truly meet to canon. Everyone knew what to expect fro a Dark Knight film, and got that and more - Prometheus was and still to a degree is an unknown quantity. All I can see here is a win-win situation for cinema-goers. I've not been to se so many films on premiere days/weekends than this year so far. With plenty more to come
