PROMETHEUS BluRay to feature NEW VIRAL VIDEO

MemberOvomorphAugust 07, 20121624 Views14 RepliesThe BBFC has recently released a list of some of the extras to be included on the Prometheus BluRay, and one of them is a NEW viral video titled 'Prometheus Transmission.' The video is just under SEVEN MINUTES LONG!
In my opinion, this video will shed light on and may include the audio transmission found on **WEYLAND. Maybe its the reason whatis101112.com was created! Whos excited?

Well, yes, of course I'd rather Ridley get to work on the sequel, heh... but I'm still curious to see how the film would play out with all of its footage. But I suppose deleted scenes will be sufficient. Whatevs. I just can't wait to buy the damn movie..

If were unlucky its gonna be a viral for the new TV series which will come out on 10 11 12.
If were lucky its something bigger :D ... I for one am hoping there will be a DC and its scenes we have not seen yet that help it make more logical sense!

Jumping for joy and after finding out Ridley said no to the Directors cut I'm willing to take what ever bonuses we can get!

Yeah, what the hell is that?? He has like 14 different cuts of Blade Runner, but he's not gonna do one single extended cut of Prometheus?? ARG... >:-(

I want that box set so badly but my wallet is whimpering at the thought of it.... & I know exactly how you feel Leech, let's hope for a release later on.

as far as the whole "director's cut" issue is concerned...it appears we've already seen the "director's cut". I would be as excited as the next guy to see an alternate expression of the film. However, I certainly wouldnt want to see something that had been cobbled together just to satisfy the subjective notion that an alternate cut would somehow be better than what was shown in the theater. We have no reason to believe that a different cut of the film would be superior. Ridley feels that prometheus "works" as is; he's been clear since june that his intentions were/are to include the theatrical release of prometheus and allow access to deleted/alternate scenes through the menu. I wouldnt be surprised if ridley revisited the film and produced an alternate cut later on down the line, but now is probably too soon. He may need a bit more perspective than what he has right now (and im sure the sequel impacts his editing decisions as well). As far as the new viral video that is to be included on the blu ray release, im pumped. I cant wait to see where this new viral is aiming.

Ridley being a master marketeer reads into this, too. He said before and unapologetically that it's his job to "put bums in the seats" so it's reasonable ( I think) to assume that he knew he was producing a bizarre film and was making a point of getting behind it early. Being also a world class artist and trickster, I doubt he could resist playing with it at some point, but I'd rather he get busy with the sequel!
All kinds of interesting things are gonna happen, and I think among them will be some fan cuts that will probably be fantastic. It's clear that on this site alone are some very capable people who could pull it off. A new iteration of cult obsession, with RS having lit the fuse? I would love to see this, and for RS to know he changed the game once again!

I agree with joeyjoe in that it's too soon for any kind of DC. A DC would totally muck everything up in regards to a sequel. There are countless threads and discussions on what is "canon." Is AvP canon? What about Aliens? How about Alien 3? and so on. Imagine how confused people could or would get if there were 2 versions of Prometheus? It could be a disaster depending on if Scott wants to change anything he originally intended. And with all the bitch fests about Lindeloff and the writing I have a feeling at least a few things might change.
Regaqrdless of whether Scott ever does a DC I'm sure Fox, somewhere on down the line, will cut a Special Edition, much like they did with Alien 3. As you probably know, Fincher had no involvement whatsoever.
Personally, I'm happy with the film. Adding some extra Engineers and a fight scene between Shaw and the final Engineer would not make the film better imo. Changing Fifield's transformation will not make it a "better" film for me either. The only way I would think a DC would be nescisarry would be if it was a case like Kingdom of Heaven where the story actually changes. People seem to think that re-inserting things to make the film longer will make it "breath" better and change the pacing but unless there's substance in what you add it wont make a bit of difference. IMO, of course.

@Engineering, TOTALLY agree with all your last paragraph - however there were pacing issues, and TWENTY MINUTES WORTH OF deleted dialogues/explanations, in Ridley's First Submission Cut.
Or maybe there weren't, and that's all we get/got?
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

DAMN the edit function! Grrrrr!
@FreePlanet...While I don't have a problem with the pacing of the film I do understand that some do. You pretty much reiterated what I was saying though. If there is in fact 20 minutes worth of exposition then I might say a DC is needed. However, extra dialouge does not equal exposition. And most importantly, if said exposition was taken out due to it revealing too much of the sequel then it definitely does not need to be done. If that's the case, which I think was in terms of the extra Engineers in the opening, then I don't think a DC should EVER be released.
Point is no matter what it's waaaay too early to release a DC or even think about releasing one. IMO, of course.
@Jeremy...There's no way whatis10/11/12 was created for this 7 minute viral clip. The blu-ray which will include this clip comes out in some territories before 10/11/12. Now, Fox could change the release date but I think if the dvd has any mention of 10/11/12 then they would have just released dvd release dates after 10/11/12.

I can't be 100% sure about this, but the date seems to coincide with the NY Comic Con
