Scott not in Director's seat for Paradise?

Just read an article about Ridley returning to work on The Counselor after Tony's tragic death. According to this article the buzz around hollywood is that Scott will do Blade Runner after The Counselor and is only listed as a producer for Prometheus 2. This is so complicated and such a hard thing for me to deal with. Personally, if push comes to shove and we can only have one or the other from him,I think I'd rather see Ridley do Blade Runner. I think that's what he will want to do to. To be able to return to the landscape he created after his older brother's death after the death of his younger brother could be a silver lining for him and could bring a ton of emotional depth to the film. On the other hand, I believe Paradise could work in the same vein for Ridley especially with it's subject matter. I want my cake and eat it too but in the end I would want him to do whatever he feels he can benefit from.

Just for the record, the article didn't say that he ISN'T directing Paradise. Just that as of now he is only listed as a producer. I think their source was IMDB so it's probably not accurate. At this point you would figure that Scott and Fox had already had contracts in place in case the film did good and they were going to move forward. Therefore IMDB could go ahead and list him as director AND producer. Just strange that he's only listed as producer. As far as the "buzz around Hollywood" goes, well, that's just "buzz" and not fact. That said, I'm gonna go read all your responses.

Quote..."P.S prometheus 2/paradise has james camerons name all over it, Whats the bets??" Seriously??? That post makes me want to puke! That said, I'll take that bet as Cameron has already stated that he has enough material and is going to make Avatar films exclusively for the rest of his carrer. If you ask me the first film had about 3 hours too much Avatar material so it's hard to believe he has enough to cover the rest of his life. At least I know he wont be anywhere near the Alien/Prometheus franchise. I've seen enough of Cameron's marines in space or underwater for a lifetime.

Here's the link to the article... http://www.inquisitr.com/320415/ridley-scott-returns-to-work-on-the-counsellor-following-tony-scotts-suicide/ You'll have to copy/paste it yourself as all of the options for posting links, pics and everything else has vanished from the forum for me. Here's the exact paragraph... "After Ridley Scott finishes work on The Counsellor, word around the industry campfire is that he could return to the Blade Runner franchise for the highly-anticipated, long-awaited follow-up to his 1982 science fiction classic starring Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer. Internet Movie Database also has the Alien director listed as producer on Prometheus 2." For some reason you guys took this all as fact and ran a little too far with it. BTW...I checked IMDB and they DO NOT have him listed as director of P2/Paradise. They do, however, have him listed as the BR project's director.

And to act like I would m,ake up shit and create an "imaginary article" after being an upstanding member of this community for quite some time is quite insulting. I know I should have posted a link to begin with but as everything in the original post was obviously posted as speculation on the part of the writers of the article I felt a link to prove that someone was speculating something wasn't really needed.

OK, let's wait for the official announcement. Yes, I would love Ridley to do it, he just has to, but if he can't (for whatever reason... we can't blame him!) then who would take the reins... Christopher Nolan? Neill Blomkamp? The Wachowskis? Michael Mann? The Coen Brothers? Yes, these are a bit wild in the suggestions... but this is a serious decision by Fox! Actually... I have had a better suggestion - Luke Scott, Ridley's son and Tony's nephew who directed the Peter Weyland TED speech. Yes, that's the one. Thoughts anyone?

Didnt mean to imply that you were making stuff up, bro, but you can see that the title of this thread tends to catch one's attention. It's no wonder our imaginations ran wild with it. So yes, please, always supply a link, especially when it has such massive implications like this. I dont think it's any big deal that he's not listed as director yet on IMDb. It's very early, only just announced. And i'm pretty sure he was already scheduled to work on The Counselor next. Personally, i could do without the Blade Runner follow-up. But i'd rather just wait for him to get to Prometheus 2 instead of handing it over to someone else. No way in hell he's gonna do that. I'd rather risk him dying. If he DOES, THEN hand it to someone else. Not before!

You have to remember Ridley is no spring chicken. He is what 74? If he is making The Counselor and Blade Runner 2/Prequel then we also have to remember he has said he sees Prometheus as part of a Trilogy and that it would take 3 movies to fore fill the story he wishes to tell and then fill in the gaps to Alien. 4 Movies thats going to take some time and can Ridley guarantee he would be in good enough health to see them all through. Thats why i think as soon as they work on Prometheus 2 they will also have the ideas for Prometheus 3 and may even work on a lot of it at the same time. Like say Back to the Future 2 and 3 and LOTR Two Towers and Return of the King. This way Ridley can have his input and stamp on both movies.

I know Ridley's old. Shit, of course i hope they do P2 & P3 at the same time. But it's probably a matter of whether the studio is willing to invest that much at once. I don't think P1 is that big of a success to justify it, unfortunately. Maybe Ridley could convince them to go for it, though... *shrug* crosses fingers.

What gets me is that there's enough people going to see the 100th Underworld or Resident Evil but not enough to guaruntee 2 Prometheus sequels. It's just bonkers. As far as possible directors BESIDES Scott, I've posted a few very in-depth thoughts on my candidates in this thread... http://www.prometheus-movie.com/community/forums/topic/9412 ...as well as some other threads about the topic. I would love to get into an in depth conversation about potential directors if anyone's interested.

BTW...Not to be a prick, as I enjoy your posts very much Leech, but there is a big, fat question mark at the end of the topic title lol.
BTW...Not to be a prick, as I enjoy your posts very much Leech, but there is a big, fat question mark at the end of the topic title lol.
Ridley not directing the sequel(s) is a notion that I find so disturbing that I wouldn't even want to entertain it unless it was actually confirmed by the studio itself. But apparently you're just SICK like that!! :-P
What gets me is that there's enough people going to see the 100th Underworld or Resident Evil but not enough to guaruntee 2 Prometheus sequels. It's just bonkers.
Yeah, seriously. Paul WS Anderson is quite the hack. I actually kind of enjoy the Underworld movies, though. But both of those series are made relatively cheaply. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing the budget of P2 cut down a bit. Not that he overdid it with P1 (cuz the production is perfect) and special effects never once overwhelmed the story, but to help guarantee another film it might be worth it.

Just to hopefully put the final nail or two in the coffin for this theory: remember that quote from the Fox studio president of production, Emma Watts? "Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it." No way is P2 anyone's film but Ridley's.

I just checked out the IMDB website for Ridley Scott. For Prometheus it says he is listed as Producer. When you click on the link..it come to the familar Promethues home page and says Ridley Scott dierector etc. etc. FOr Prometheus 2 it has himas Producer also. The Prometheus 2 page of course if full of ????. I am not sure why IMDB would list him as Producer for Prometheus but I am hopefully this is nothing more than some error. Ridley has said he wants to Direct the next movies. BTW: I knwi he is 74 but he is a pretty vigorous guy. I think he will bemaking movies into his 80's. It what defines him.

Today I have been dedicated to post on as many topics as possible until I pass out from drinking too many beers.

ridley being listed as a producer for P2 is not an issue and is more than likely accurate (he directed prometheus and was listed as one of the producers as well). I would be shocked if ridley wasnt a member of the producing team for P2 (i believe ms. watts is executive producer?). Hopefully, like most other facets of the P2 production at this time, ridley not being slotted as director of P2 is just a matter of incomplete information. Leech mentioned the most important and positive piece of info we have right now and thats ms watts' comment concerning both ridley's excitement towards the sequel and, by way of saying things the way she did, ms. watts' endorsement of ridley as the go to man regarding the construction of P2. Im going to try and remain hopeful. I gotta believe ridley is going to finish his work.
