Scott not in Director's seat for Paradise?

MemberOvomorphSeptember 04, 20123021 Views37 RepliesJust read an article about Ridley returning to work on The Counselor after Tony's tragic death. According to this article the buzz around hollywood is that Scott will do Blade Runner after The Counselor and is only listed as a producer for Prometheus 2.
This is so complicated and such a hard thing for me to deal with. Personally, if push comes to shove and we can only have one or the other from him,I think I'd rather see Ridley do Blade Runner. I think that's what he will want to do to. To be able to return to the landscape he created after his older brother's death after the death of his younger brother could be a silver lining for him and could bring a ton of emotional depth to the film.
On the other hand, I believe Paradise could work in the same vein for Ridley especially with it's subject matter.
I want my cake and eat it too but in the end I would want him to do whatever he feels he can benefit from.

I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.

ugh. thats some ugly news. I like blade runner, but im one of those folks who prefers alien over blade runner. If i had to pick, id rather ridley direct P2 (paradise) than another blade runner film. i know he wants to do another blade runner so...there's that. I can understand his decision. Im just concerned that, with lindelof off of writing duties and scott not orchestrating the visual side of things, P2 might be a dramatic departure from prometheus. I would not at all be happy with that. I very much liked the direction prometheus was headed in. I just think they need to finish the narrative. Thanks for posting the news engineering. Im a little bit concerned now. Also, its doubtful that any other director will have as much freedom (as far as constructing a challenging film) as ridley did. Damn....the studio better not f*ck this up. I can just see it now...a military outfit is dispatched to LV 223 to follow up on the failed prometheus mission. The deacon has somehow spawned a boatload of other xeno-esque creatures. action/chaos ensues. Good god that would be so horrible!!! Anyways, im going to try and think positive now. Im so hoping for a challenging sequel to prometheus. please no cop outs from the studio et al.

I'd like to see a new Blade Runner story, as long as it makes sense to make one. Otherwise why do it?
Would rather see a conclusion for what was started with Prometheus at this point.
Morbid curiosity perhaps? Dunno.

Am i the only one that dosnt want a new blade runner!!
The movie was perfect the way itis, it should not be torched not even by sir Ridley . Personalty i dont know where he would even start in makeing a new story for blade runner!!
Anyway i think its good new that Ridley will be takeing a back seat on promethus 2 or paradise. Give a new look and new idears to the movie Ridley will ofcorse still have a big influence in the movie.. Just keep lindelof as far as possible away from the movie..
So all in all NO to blade runner & a hole new direction to promethus :)

God, no! Prometheus is Ridley's baby!! And i agree, after the death of his brother there is likely to be some very interesting emotional depth. That could really take this to a whole new level.. and even besides that, RIDLEY'S DIRECTION IS SUBERB!! NO ONE ELSE CAN FILL HIS SHOES!! Booo... i'll protest in the streets.. lol
(I'm not that interested in Blade Runner either)
Dammit, i hope this is a cruel joke. He's said that he REALLY wants to do the sequel.. he cant just hand it over to some clown. I literally cannot think of another director who could fill his shoes. There is no one else like him..
Btw: please link to this "article."

Shit, I just found this interview... didn't read the whole thing, but here you go:
I don’t want to spoil anything with your answer, but this film opens a lot of doors that are not answered, and you have. My question is how far have you thought? Or have you talked to Damon (Lindelof) about where the possibility of a sequel will go? Have you already opened those doors in terms of you already know where these answers are and it’s just a matter of making it or are you sort of like ‘We will think about that a little bit assuming the movie is a hit. Let’s talk later.’
“It’s a bit of each. You do a bit of each and I’ve opened the doors. I know where it’s going. I know that to keep him alive is essential and to keep her alive is essential and to go where they came from, not where I came from, is essential. That’s a pretty open door and then rather than going to that, I don’t see landing in a place that looks like paradise, that’s not how it’s going to be. There is a plan, yeah.”
How important is it for you to be directly involved as a director in that?
“Totally. I develop everything. I do. I learned that a long time ago. It’s never going to land on your desk, you have to come up with what you want to do with the story and I think sometimes it can take two or three years. I want to do a western really badly and I think I’ve got a western this morning, finally after two and a half years of talking and writing and talking and I think I have it, which is kind of interesting. And then the evolution of writing it… Have you written a book? Try writing a book. That’s difficult. Writing a screenplay is like writing a book, it’s that simple. You’ve got a blank page and that’s it, a blank page and then you go from there and everyone has their own method. I know some start here and end here and I’m good with writers. I think I would never try to write. I’ve written two or three screenplays before, but I wouldn’t do it. It takes too long. The time it would take me to write a screenplay it would take me the time to make two films. I would rather make the movies and I’m a better moviemaker than a writer.”
There is no WAY he can hand this story over to someone else. This is HIS story... I'll cry... :(

This whole Prometheus thing has been an emotional roller coaster for me since last April! How was a movie(now plural) able to hijack my heart like this? Ooohh dear deaR me....

Personally I have never seen blade runner, Is it worth watching? Anyway I love aliens and I am now becoming a bigger fan of Prometheus. so really I don't care who directs the movie as long as it is made well and it delivers a great story that keeps me entertained like the first movie did. I have heard a lot of rumors as well that the sequel (if it actually is made) will be called Paradise. Is that true, and how do you know?

I posted yesterday in – “Ridley Scott did not make Prometheus for Alien fans”
I have to pat myself on the back for this one. (self-gloating) That above discussion was regarding all the talked about issues people are having with Prometheus such as story, aliens etc. Some thought that he lost creative control to the studio and it forced RS to do things in the movie he may not have liked or would have originally done. Man this all making sense now. If RS walks away from this and does not direct then he has lost all creative control and there goes the story. Maybe the studio forced Lindeldorf on him and not by choice. Prometheus was good but I think it could have been so much better - this all makes sense now.
Also I agree with others here - LEAVE Bladerunner alone! No sequel no nothing.

This is crazy. I do not accept this as truth unil there is an official announcement. I havent even seen a lnk to this imaginary article. I cannot believe that Ridley would surrender control of this project to someone else.

First of all, I'd like to be provided a link or at least a reference to the article mentioned in the first post. Otherwise I'm in my right not to believe a word of it.
Second of all, I'd like to understand how dopelganger reached such conclusions. Just because some nitpicking fanboys had "issues" with the story of 'Prometheus' it is evidence that Scott somehow didn't make the film for the "fans" and that he lost creative control? Talk about a leap of logic.

If Scott doesn't direct, maybe Carl Erik Rinsch anyone? Wasn't he the original
choice back in the 'Prequel' days? He does wonderful dark sci-fi imagery from what I'd seen of his ads work on YT.
September 05, 2012
It's hogwash, I say!!!
And lol, yeah. James Cameron better stay the hell away from Prometheus. Keep his dragon-riding cat-people to himself... *gags*
September 05, 2012
I am just throwing it out there for discussion. If RS let s directors chair go it would indeed end this chapter - i think. Looking at his schedule for the coming 2 years he is full and it is hard to see where he could fit in Prometheus especially if he picks up his brothers project to finish. 2015 is more like it for a release date unless of course primary filming for the sequel took place durning Prometheus. Anything could happen here but as most have said it is a wait and see game.
