MemberOvomorphJan-15-2014 4:31 PMI like what Fassbender said about how the species we've seen so far are just one small part of the universe. It can really go in a lot of directions now. I'm open to it going a lot of different ways. I wanna see more of the Engineer culture in action. But I always wanna know everything there is to know about what the company really knows...And David. The androids and biomechanical ideas interest me the most for some reason. I think they practically run the company after Weyland's "deathS"
Even if by some small chance down the line Predators rejoin the universe i'm semi-open to it -- only if it's done well, set up properly by the new comics etc (although right now I think the new Alien/Predator and Prometheus comics are in different timelines, that's a whole diff story).
One thing I don't want to see: active Aliens on earth. I think going back to earth with the Alien in the movies is bad news bears. There are easily ways to do an earth story that involves Aliens, but making the Aliens the main focus on Earth is something i don't wanna see. It'd be ok for me if they were on Earth, had already taken it over, burrowed in hives, and gone dormant, by the time Call and Ripley 8 show up. Or if some Aliens make it there to Earth, or it's implyed they were once there etc...the point is I don't want to see a movie that's ALL about the Alien being on earth where it becomes way too much like AVP: Requiem. They covered a lot of that terriotory pretty poorly, but they also showed it's something that can easily just lead to a slaughter of characters in some town we don't care about.
The original AVP comics actually got a lot of stuff right in my opinion. I hope the new comics take some small hints from them, because there are actually some things in even the old ALien comics that mesh pretty well still with Prometheus.
BUt definitely keep Preds out of the movie universe for a while after the re-launch of the comics. What worries me is that new comics have been referred to as one big story, and i hope Prometheus only influences them/doesn't tie into them just yet.
One character from the Alien/Predator comics I loved was Caryn Delacroix, who starts out as a genetically engineered trophy wife.
I have some suspicions that Miss Vickers is not what we think, she's not a robot, but Chance and Ravel might have seen other genetically engineered trophy wifes, and thought that was what Miss Vickers was when they wanted to trade their credits in for a lapdance. Janek thought she wasn't real, but she's Weyland's genetically engineered trophy daughter, and David is the closest thing to a real child to Weyland. Closer in how the thinks etc. David and Weyland both like the "trick" from Lawrence of Arabia.

MemberOvomorphJan-15-2014 6:58 PMDoes anyone think the engineers were going to earth to destroy man because we killed Jesus? The decapitated engineer had been dead 2000 years which put the time at around the death of Christ...
Thoughts?

MemberOvomorphJan-16-2014 3:35 PMThere are alot of religious references in Prometheus, this is just one of them. Ridley mentioned during an interview that the original script specically indicated that the engineers wanted to kill humanity as a reaction to Jesus's death. The exact dialogue was cut out because it was too "on-the-nose", and instead the reason was only aluded to. (As you pointed out, the extermination of earth was to occur approx 2000 years ago. )
As it stands, its one of those up-in-the-air references made in the movie that can mean anything. Each viewer can make his/her own assumption as to the reason why the engineers wanted to destroy us. (Pretty much the same situation as the famous "tail between Lamberts Legs" scene from ALIEN... - Did the alien rape and kill Lambert or just plain kill her? - Its left up to the viewer to decide.)

MemberPraetorianJan-23-2014 8:12 AMThe beauty of Prometheus was to erase the Predators from Alien canon, because Predator is a seperate movie series. It would be like adding Godzilla to the Alien canon, both movies have aliens in them (not godzilla himself but every other godzilla movie has aliens enslaving him), both movies effect humans, both movies have an iconic monster.
Engineers were always human-like even before prometheus, look up giger's alien hierogylph. The space jockey/engineers are depicted in their being impregnated by a xenomorph. The other reason why Engineers look human is because they created us, in the similiar vein as God created man in his own image. Also we barely caught a glimpse of the Engineers technology but it is hinted they created the xenomorphs and the black goo.

MemberOvomorphMar-09-2014 7:12 PMThe one thing I found interesting that some may have over looked is the Engineers reaction when it first came out of stasis. It seemd quiet until Shaw began showing emotion and asking questions and than being mistreated by the others of her species. He seemd to almost feel her pain as she was asking him "why? what did we do?". He seemed to feel compassionate until the other guy from her own crew punched her in the stomach. Than when David started talking to him in his own lanuage and when he realised that he wasnt human and seem to react like humans should not have that ability to create androids and shouldnt have evolved to that level of intelligence. He tried to destroy David and kill th erest..but he didnt go after Shaw until after the ship crashed.

MemberOvomorphMar-09-2014 8:47 PMThe important thing is that Shaw knows why the Engineer got angry and david did Not.
the sequel has to start on that understanding so we can apply that concept on a bigger scale.
what makes you think she escaped at the end of the movie? we don't know.
when exactly does the company get information about the mission ?

MemberDeaconMar-10-2014 7:38 AMWell thats correct if we see the Whole Deleted Scenes we get a different picture to the Engineer than what the cut we saw gave us, the sad thing is Ridley is going the route to having the Engineer being just Aggressive SOB whos only interest was destruction of Mankind like his fallen brothers, and is being portrayed as simply following Orders as you would expect David 8 to. And maybe the removal of the Elder scenes is so they can redesign the Elders and i think they could be going down the route that our Engineers are merely to the Elders as David 8 is to us.
The full movie inc the scenes we not even saw on the deleted section shows us that for some reason the Mission failed, and why did the Last Engineer survive and it takes you down the path that maybe this Engineer did not agree with the destruction of our species.
If you look at the concept Art his Cryo Stasis Pod is called the HERO CHAMBER why would that be if he simply was lucky to not get effected..... only to then wake up and want to carry on his mission.
The full cut would have shown us this Engineer to be compassionate with mankind and fitted in with the whole Jesus 2000 years ago angle, as that was a way of showing us that for the final time Mankind was doing what the Engineers never wanted and they decided they tried enough to change us but not they left with no choice but to destroy us.
The Last Engineer is surprised to see Humans turn up he is intrigued with us, especially Shaw as maybe they dont have Females no more.
Its only after he sees and can tell that Weyland is the leader of the group and that he only sees his own interests as important and has little care for his fellow crews. And he got Shaw to be silenced.
Then David tells the Engineers that this arrogant selfish Human is dyeing and wants the Engineers to grant him more life... At this point the Engineer may tell David is not Human and when he touches David he knows this.
Basically at this point he realises that Mankind as not changed and are a selfish race who care for only themselves, this race has also acted as Gods by creating life in there own image.
And that these Synthetic creations can not only talk their Engineer Language and use their Tech, but also Mankind knows how to get to LV 223 and will no doubt maybe send more and more of its kind and Androids to LV 223.
There simply is no way Mankind and its creation can be allowed to get its hands on the Bio Weapons and Secrets of LV 223 and so the Engineer had no choice but to go to Earth and finish the job, as a race of Humans travelling the Stars is bad enough but one who can use Artificial creations to not only use the Engineers Tech but also thus being able to use their Bio Weapons is simply to dangerous for the safety of the whole Galaxy and what ever other life is out there.
Bottom line Mankind is a unruly, powermonging race who see themselves as having no equal and who now can travel the Stars and thus eventually come across and influence other Worlds in the Galaxy.
It would be just as if the Androids created to serve Mankind started to rebel and saw themselves as greater than Mankind and they would not serve us no more and even try and potentially replace us.
Then Mankind would go about to destroy every single Android they created, to prevent a Terminator situation..... This is all these Engineers are trying to do with us.

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2014 10:13 AMInteresting infirmation BigDave, i like your point of view.
i would like to say that the android with a hidden agenda story was always interesting, but what if the opposite happened ? what if, for example, a character working for w.y. like andrea bishop or another character would happen to work against w.y. ? ...
isnt there a battle between weyland and yutani corp ?
BigDave
MemberDeaconMar-10-2014 12:34 PMThere is some rivalry for sure, it would appear that Weyland Industries is more geared towards advancements in Genetics, Medicine, Medical Tech, and also Terraforming and it appears its Agenda is to search for new worlds to not only mine for resources but also in the hope of finding life out there.
Yutani seems more geared towards Advances in Electrical Tech and Military so both seem to be competition in a lot of instances but seems Weyland is more geared in Exploration and Medicine and Yutani more Military.
Yutani tried and failed to sue Weyland after Yutani Corporation filed a lawsuit against Weylandover the Patent for the David model, so maybe there was some collaboration in the creation of that model or that Yutani feel Weyland borrowed some of its tech to create the David models we just don’t know at the moment but yes i would think we would see more about the rivalry in the future movies.

MemberDeaconMar-10-2014 12:41 PMI would assume the Lawsuit would revolve around one of these 2 patents.
August 5, 2023 AD
Weyland Corp earns patent number 8,128,899 for Method and Apparatus for cybernetic individuals for use in scientific and industrial environments.
March 26, 2026 AD
Weyland Corp earns patent number 9,158,239 for a chemical composition of classified properties able to almost perfectly replicate the biological features and texture of human skin.
With regards to the Lawsuit ..
December 12, 2029 AD
After years of litigation, Weyland wins the David patent lawsuit against the Japanese start-up Yutani Corporation, effectively protecting the investments of both Weyland Corp and its shareholders.
I would assume maybe its to do with the lifelike skin etc of the Androids that Weyland are making that they have protected so that Yutani can not use the same technology which limits the lifelike apearence of Yutanis own Androids.
And i guess in a Global World potential purchasers of Androids would like them to look as close to Human as possible and such a Lawsuit prevent Yutanis from using the real skin technology that the David models have would mean Yutanis own Androids would look more Synthetic and Rubbery in appearence this would give Weyland a massive advantage in such a market.

MemberOvomorphNov-08-2014 11:22 AMI wonder if Shaw will make any effort to learn the langauge of the engineers, so she won't be so reliant on an android they may have his own agenda now. I like David, but I would have a hard time placing much trust in him.
BigDave
MemberDeaconNov-09-2014 11:38 AMI dont know how they would do that unless David Teaches her but i would assume for most of the journey he would have her in Cryo Sleep...
Shaw has to reconnect David in order for her to had escaped LV 223 and we dont know how long the journey would be so its safe to Assume Shaw would be in Cryo Sleep Pods of the Engineers.
Shaw had to make a conscious decision to put David together and then knowing once she does that and gets into Cryo Sleep then basically she is left to the whims of David.
It will be likewise with the Engineers, i think she has just got to trust David to talk and translate to them...
Maybe he would teach Shaw some, or maybe while in Cryo sleep somehow connected to whatever means the Engineers put themselves into Cryo Sleep she could somehow learn to speak to them.
Maybe the Elders or who ever have a way to connect to Shaw Telepathically.

MemberOvomorphNov-09-2014 10:12 PMTelepathic communication would be interesting. One way or another they will be able to have a conversion since David is around to act as an interpretor.
BigDave
MemberDeaconNov-10-2014 4:31 PMI think that would be the basic principle as i had said with Shaw left no choice but to be in Davids hands unless she either learns some Engineer via Cryo Sleep or if they are Telepathic.
Otherwise Shaw has to put he faith in what David says on her behalf and also in how he translates the Engineers Messages...
There is nothing stoping David making it up or even stretching the truth a bit.
If Shaw does not know Engineer Lanquage she simply has to take what David says is true.

MemberOvomorphDec-21-2014 11:03 PMI think it is obvious that in this movie, the Engineers created humans on Earth for the purpose of incubating zenomorphs. The base found on LV 223 was a bio weapon factory designed to develop the weapons to incubate zenomorphs in human hosts. The alien ships on LV 223 were actually bombers. The "vases" in the development area of the base were spaced out like we store nuclear warheads, well apart so that they don't interact with one another. The vases in the "cargo hold" on the ship looked like they were arranged in bomb racks, for dropping on earth. I'm not sure why the writers didn't make this clear as the visiting human crew began to figure things out. In the end, the main character indicated she wanted to take an Engineers' ship to the home planet of the Engineers, not Earth. I would expect in the sequal she will find out that the Engineers are hostile, and she will use the ship for it's intended purpose and bomb the Engineers' planet with their own bio weapon load. Somehow one of these vases will make it back to Earth (presumably from a rescue ship sent to find out what happened to the original Promethius ship). All of these speculations are probably a little too simple and linear for Ridley to put into a movie, so I expect some mind bending turns for the sequels that I hadn't predicted. For instance, I expect see Ridley to bring back the space marines concept from "Aliens". j1

MemberOvomorphApr-16-2016 2:26 PMAlthough I feel that Prometheus could, and should have been a much better movie, I also feel that at times it truly shines. Some scenes are incredible, and really add to the world building that has been part of this "Alien" universe. It is a real shame that within this one movie, the quality of the writing alternates from solid and good, to absolutely abysmal. The movie suffered because of the unrealistic plot contrivances and illogical events, and even though the artwork, and cinematography were absolutely top notch, the movie just fell flat in many other areas.
So basically all I want right now, is a coherent movie script in which the characters are behaving like real people, and the situations are handled with care for realism.

MemberOvomorphDec-01-2016 1:09 PMI would love to know more about the Engineers - origin, culture, their faith perhaps. So far, i`ve stumbled upon many speculations and little threads that lead to everywhere and nowhere at the same time. I, personally, do not believe that David translated his conversation with the last engineer correctly ( judging by the engineer`s tone and posture, his face ... ) .. the things is that i expect more from Covenant. I would expect experiments , horrid experiments on humans( Shaw maybe) and Engineers. And why not find out why they wanted to wipe us out !
Btw, i have recently found a test shooting from Prometheus - with different David and different ending ( which gives clues to Paradise and different interpretation of the Engineer`s speach). Here`s the video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tu5Mwq_L2A

MemberFacehuggerDec-01-2016 3:24 PMThank God that guy was not used to play David. Lol
this may have been brought up in others threads but I find it interesting that through the movie Prometheus it seemed that David formed a conscious and the will to survive and bargain. Which makes me wonder if he's more than just a robot
and also his desire to meddle with human life.
and as far as paradises..... it could mean a totally different thing to the engineers than it does to humans

MemberOvomorphApr-24-2017 3:26 AMI've never had an exact idea/dream for and Alien/Prometheus film. I just hope we get a true horror/thriller film with good: acting, build up, CGI/practical effects, cinematography and music. I think these are key (not that anyone disagrees) and I think that's what we'll get with Alien Covenant.

MemberOvomorphMay-02-2017 1:13 PMAlien Universe Theory
The Engineers worship the Xenomorph, the Xenomorph is a form of god to the engineers. They serve the Xenomorph and Xenomorph is actually the more intelligent of the two. As depicted in the shrine room, the alter and mural. The mural was a Xenomorph. The alter was the first step in the engineers sacrifice to create life as depicted in the beginning of Prometheus.
The engineers are part of a Xenomorph life cycle, the slaves to the Xenomorph gods. They travel the universe and create homeworlds, life as they did on earth. They visit these worlds and leave behind clues to their existence. When life on that planet evolves enough to sacrifice them, they visit with the Black Goo and destroy the planets cities making it a Xenomorph transforming home world. The population of humans not destroyed are used as host (via) the egg cargo their ship also carries, making more Xenomorphs to populate the host planet.
The Black goo is Xenomorph sperm, they need it to create life and in turn destroy life. When consumed by the engineer, it will create the basic fabric of evolutionary life. But when exposed to living creatures it creates mutation and death.
Once a Xenomorph host planet is created in the ashes of a human planet, they follow the Xenomorph life cycle of a queen, egg, face hugger and then a host to create a birther Xenomorph.
Perhaps the origin of the Xenomorph is that the engineers created them, they turned on them and became the slave. Much like the engineers turned on us, thou we see them as our god, or how David turns on humans…his creator. But for the sake of the movies, the Xenomorph is the gods (or devil). The Engineers are the Slaves (or angels) and the humans are the sheep (sacrifice) used to create more gods.

MemberOvomorphMay-04-2017 12:15 AMd.r.barbarook, that video is down. Fox pulled it. I would like to see who was playing David, as I can't stand his character lol.
