After Holloway asks David if he can read the 'text'/Hieroglyphics outside the big head room our android sweeps the light from left to right over the symbols. My question is in the actual reading of this text. Is it usual to read from left to right or right to left? I say that because as I understand it Arabic is read right to left. Although the incribed words that David looks at is a created language would the design be based on the left to right scanning? Also are 'Hieroglyphics/symbols' read as words that we use in English or more of a pictorgram that would be scanned first and then translated into a sentence., I ask not so much as a translation of the words but more as the procedure used to decipher the message.

Well since is bascially ancient Sumerian-like in terms of the symbols and dots its usually read from up to down, right to left, or like Egyptian heiroglyphics can be read the same way except left to right or diagonal. Since its cuneiform or wedge-shaped writing they would have to scan the whole thing and then break it down into a symbolic to phonetic value (each one represents a sound and meaning then at least a related language to use as a base). As far as the movie goes Im not sure how they would read it if its a readable language at all.

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

i read or i think i did, that a mix of different eras or types of cuneform were used which makes things tricky also that what we can see of the set is mainly just embellishment by the art dept so probably not actually anything to be read however a alphabet was provided so im expecting thats for these easter eggs "unlock this and youll find that" sort of thing they may be planning for pre-prom2 promotions

".. so probably not actually anything to be read ,," Even if they were sort of made scripture it would be nice to know that David could decode and explain. Because of the placement at the Big Head Room it could be a hint to the meaning of our story. The is a city in the USA called Baron Rouge. Growinfg up it alwasy seemed like a pretty fanciful name not meaning anything to me..but still an interesting name foe a city. I now understand it is French for Red Stick. I think I;ll stick with Baton Rouge, If the overhead lettering means 'Suckers' I would rather not know the meaning,.

LOL on the 'Do Not Enter' . It does make me wonder if there was any thought to Holloway or Shaw being able to read any of the inscriptions. After all they were familiar with old civilizations,,been checking out caves around the world. Certainly at some point either one would have wanted to read related languages,,that might be applicable in the Engeineer's case. I am not saying that they would have been as good as David in this language Dept. but I am saying they might have a working knowledge.

i'm starting to really beleive (the plot is) that david knew things would go bad for weyland on that moon, what clinched it was after watching the documentary where they discuss the scene where they reach destination threshhold and the ships carapace opens and david looks out "like he has hopes/expectations for the journey that are personal" not just directive driven my interp' he sees his future freedom! his epiphany is actually the most interesting he learns he needs others something all people (silicon or meat regardless of creed etc should get!) shaws quest is actually irrellevent (its interesting) but in this david is actually making sense.....

^^ Yeah, when David gazes ahead after the shutters open it's almost as if he's looking forward with his goals and has his personal mission well developed at that point. The orders that he's forced/programmed to fulfill also hold the key to his freedom. He wants to let Weyland die down there. Just like Vickers, he would have logically assumed it was foolish for Weyland to go down there later in the story... Shaw warned the place was only full of death. David sees all the evidence and doesn't warn Weyland that they aren't gods & possess bioweapons. So when David first looks out, this destination has a lot of importance and holds a lot of possibility for him. He's Lawrence and it's all his adventure. But he does need others and comes to sympathize with the natives. Like T.E. Lawrence...
