The Covenant

MemberFacehuggerJune 21, 2016Play nice you two, haha. Lone is correct, many of Cobb's work went unused, but referenced and emulated in Prometheus' design and set pieces.
I too, would've liked to see more of his work. Hopefully Alien: Covenant introduces us to more of his envisioned set pieces and environments.

Just to clarify - are these threads meant for actual discussion or for everyone to simply agree with each other?
I only ask because I genuinely like finding new things in films I've seen 7,264 times, and the different insights of others can often identify these things (Lone's original post about the chairs made me go back and look at Alien and I noticed the bridge chairs, the Mother chair and Ash's science blister all seem to be variations with similar overall configurations).
By the same token, I believe things that are unclear or simply wrong should be questioned. This latter approach does not appear to be at all welcome here. If this is the case, then I'll know for future reference.
Not at all S.M, discussion and debate is encouraged! I was merely reminding everyone not to take opposing viewpoints or challenging info personally. Rather nip potential flares in the bud before the debate becomes an argument. That's all.

I appreciate you clarifying that S.M!
I think it's just that your comments come across as nit picky and patronising.
We all try to respect each others opinions and be friendly to one another (though sometimes it's hard!) even if we don't agree with what someone says.
I think we should just try to be as respectful has we can be, even if we disagree with someone's comment.
The poster was good though!
I was wrong, and I apologise for flaring up, in future I will be more careful about how I present the content of my comments!

Indeed, the guy/gal knows their stuff as they spent 500 years watching Alien movies... lol just picking and joking ;)
I think we will see a ship that is a Merger of Prometheus and the Nostromo something where Old, meets New....
Steve Burg did design the Prometheus looking less stylish and more basic to start with.
i think the more square angles and design could be more what they may use.
So i would not be surprised if we had something like these and the Nostromo, as opposed to Prometheus especially for the Lander Craft.
But then its how large is the main ship?

Yes. Just How big is the main ship? Colony ship with fully developed humans or just a seed ship like 'Interstellar'?
I'm expecting Sulaco size...with multiple dropships.
This is a Good Debate..
We simply dont know.... we know little apart from its a Colony Ship, but what can that mean? Depends...
If we look at this as real as we can, then unless Earth is on the verge of destruction and doom, any mission to check out a New Habitable World would send out Probes first... but if this has happened or we bypass this.
The next stage would be a Survey Mission where they would send a Smaller Colony Crew to check out the Worlds Viability and then to set up a Small Outpost to survey the World.
Then after a number of years 5-10 then they can start to send out bigger ships to start to colonize the World in Mass.
So based on this theory, they would need a Crew of say 8-20 tops.... then we have to ask if they are NOT simply a survey mission then they would need Materials, and Equipment and Food and Drink etc to set up a small Outpost....
Which could mean they would need a Large Ship certainly Larger than Prometheus was.
Depend on how Large the Ship is as to if it would require a Drop Ship/Lander to make journeys to and from the Surface.
The Ship on the surface of Paradise looks small but its only a Part of the Ship...
The Juggernaught was bigger than that Entrance was it not? And so the Drop Ship could be larger than it would appear.. the shot we have on Set in New Zealand is maybe just one Section of a part of the ship and so we only see 10-20% of the Lander in that shot. Maybe less.
Here is the interesting thing... the Drop Ship/Lander gets blown up... we also see a Explosion and Fire on board what could be the main Covenant Ship... assuming the Covenant/Drop Ship are separate.
So at the moment we just dont know how large the ship is, the interior is very much Nostromo Meets Prometheus.
I would assume there is a Lander that would be at least half the size of the Nostromo/Prometheus but then i would assume there would be a Larger ship that would have to be at least double the size of the Nostromo/Prometheus.
Unless its one ship in which case i would think it would need to be at least Prometheus Size. with a Crew of under 12
Getting to the Crew we have so far 10 + a David?
But we have to remember there could be more as this is the main Cast... for instance the Prometheus Crew Main cast would have only been 9 + David (not including a Hidden Weyland)
But then we had also 4X Mercenaries and 4X Mechanics which including David was a Crew of 18
I am not sure Covenant would have as many extras but we cant rule that out and so i think the Crew again could be within the 12-20 Ball Park.

Yes, 10-20 sounds right. Ships are Expensive...larger ones are big bucks $$$$$$. Probably still hurting from the huge money loss of the Prometheus.
W Y expect a return on their investment! I would think they are in it for the money...not some betterment of humanity.
The Nostromo was about 244 X 165 X73 Meters (L/W/H)
The Prometheus was about 130M or 170M depends which source, but i am going for the 170M X 120M X 65M Approx unless someone can find a exact specs.
So i would assume if the Covenant has 2 Ships, then the Main ship would be between 250-350M Length
And Drop Ship between 110M and 160M Length but these are purely Guess Work..
We just dont know yet
