David Fincher doing another Alien movie

It seems interesting to consider the final product of another Fincher movie (except one where he is present from start to finish.) He is much more experienced now than he was when he did Alien 3 and has no doubt given a lot of thought to what went wrong with it.

Would another Fincher film be a mistake?

If he did another film should he work with Cameron?

Taking it a step further, if Ridley were to pass on before he could complete the Prometheus quadrilogy, would it be out of the question to have Cameron and Fincher finish it together?

I would game for that if they can avoid the cluster they hadwith Alien 3. On the other hand, he seemed to be glad to be done with the project.

I also gave this a thought a while ago, it's a good question.

First of all I think A3 not only left a bad taste in fans' mouths, but also in Fincher's himself.

Fincher's Se7en and Fight Club are some of the best films ever made imo, and he went on to make several fantastic films.

He knows how to scare us and present a thrilling bone chilling story, but maybe not an Alien film on par with the first two.

I don't think Cameron or Ridley would like to cooperate with Fincher or any other director for that matter.

Fincher is a master director but I'm sure they all want full artistic control.

ALIEN 3 is a MASTERPIECE.

I don't think Fincher could make another film that surpasses the emotion expressed in that art form, but he could definitely fix the xenomorph visual effects.

Even though I disagree, I'm actually glad that someone considers Alien 3 a masterpiece.

For me it's a good film with some very compelling and sad moments. Weaver further showcased her dramatic range here, with her sacrificial scene being so damn powerful.

I'd be more inclined to love if it wasn't so dull in terms of atmosphere, maybe add more exterior shots of the facility and surrounding environment with action taking place outside as well, to maintain the sense of a sci-fi film taking place on another planet.

The visual style is typically Fincher, with a cranked up color scheme, but the atmosphere feels so boring which took away a lot of the horror imo even though that was probably the whole idea.

I think he was being sarcastic, Neomorph

Some people actually rank Alien 3 above Alien and Aliens, so I'm not sure if he was being sarcastic.

Personally i rank a3 under them all. I didnt like it at all..didnt like the plot didnt like the xeno design and its origin and didnt like the characters story..i liked the aestetics of their surroundings but the stroy for me is dreadfull.

For me blomkamp with cameron all the way or alone. I trust the guy.

No sarcasm here, I really do believe that ALIEN 3 is a masterpiece.

In some ways, I prefer it over ALIENS.

I really like Alien 3,mainly the assembly cut.I love David Fincher's movies, and i think he's a better director than James Cameron and Ridley Scott these days.Ridley is very hit and miss, and Cameron's last two movies(Titanic and Avatar)are my least favorite films of his. There's only one Fincher film i'm not the biggest fan of and that would be Benjamin Button. All that aside I would love to see him return but it's extremely unlikely.A partnership with Cameron might work because they are friends, but for Fincher it was such a negative experience that i just don't think he'd do it.He's an amazing film makers(the best around right know in my opinion)but it's never going to happen.

I liked Alien 3 despite its flaws. The atmosphere, the performances, there were so many good things about it. I would love to see Fincher do another Alien film. As for Cameron, despite loving Aliens, I could care less what he does in the future, and given his current attitude toward the Alien franchise, I think its best he stay as far away from it as possible.

25 years later Cameron is still calling 3 a slap in the face.I love Aliens,it's my favorite movie, but he needs to stop acting like he owns the franchise. After this guy thinks AVP is the third best film in the franchise.I'm happy about his return to Terminator,it's his franchise after all,but he should stay away from Alien.I wouldn't mind him returning but it's better if he doesn't.

Couldn't have said it better myself, I still have faith in AC though.

The deaths of Newt, Hicks, Ripley and Bishop will always sour Alien 3 for me. I hate that aspect of the film so much that it can't be redeemed. Neither can David Fincher as a director of future films. I can appreciate aspects of it, but I'd never want him helming another Alien film.

Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

These guys are used to sitting at the tops of their own pyramids.  They need to be able to work without the interference of someone with a similarly strong ego.

ninXeno426

MemberPraetorianJan-29-2017 12:54 PM

Their deaths aren't a problem for me,well at least Ripley's isn't.Hicks and Newt should have been on screen and Bishop felt like a plot device. Not Fincher's faut though, the blame falls on Giler and Hill.On a side note Myrrdin,if Ripley's chestburster is something you dislike, then you might take comfort in knowing that the assembly cut removes it.

I really don't like her dying at all. Im not saying it's poorly made. I just hate the direction he took it in, so I am not interested in seeing what he would do given another chance.

Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

It would be rather silly for Ripley to fight the Xenos countless times like she was an invulnerable superhero when she wasn't, she might as well have died in Aliens.

She survived Nostromo and the colony on LV-426, and Fiorina 161 up to the point of her well-needed sacrifice to finally end her long stretched storyline.

ninXeno426

MemberPraetorianJan-29-2017 1:39 PM

I understand Myrrdin.

Really, she never should have encountered the Xenos again, period, but my opinion of Alien 3 is purely subjective. It's no more valid than anyone else's, but it's unlikely to change because it's based entirely on how I feel about it, not any strong factual argument.

Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Neomorph i agree.Every time Ripley woke up,they were there. There's only so many times you can fight these things before your luck runs out. It's a similar problem with the Dead Space games.

Ofcourse Myrrdin.I meant no offense. You are right that 3 probably shouldn't have been Ripley in the first place.I still like it but can't deny it's considerable flaws.

That's a very good comparison ninxeno, and one of the reasons why I only prefer the first game where he also didn't drop ridiculous one liners.

Isaac Clarke, similar to Ellen Ripley, was wasn't supposed to be a soldier initially, yet ironically they eventually turned him into a super soldier and stretched his story through further two games to an unnecessary trilogy.

I actually love the Dead Space lore, but they should've introduced new protagonists imo.

I'm currently playing 2 right now and just like Ripley he awoke right back into fighting the necromorph. They are great games, but whatever they do next they need a new hero, sort of like Dead Space Extraction.

Don't get me wrong Dead Space 2 is fantastic, especially at the start. But the slash fest Clarke endures makes the original premise less original and realistic (sorry Aorta ;) imo.

I'm looking forward to a new Dead Space running on Frostbite engine or something, just look at how amazing ME Andromeda looks.

ninXeno426

MemberPraetorianJan-29-2017 2:14 PM

Dead Space 2 is great. My biggest complaint is that it's not as atmospheric as the first one.Really excited about Mass Effect Andromeda, unfortunately i don't own a PS4 yet.

Survival horror in general only lasts about three games before they become straight up action games/

MemberChestbursterJan-29-2017 2:50 PM

Resident Evil 7 would like to say something about that

It's all they can do after the dreadful 5 and 6 and ridiculous story.

ninXeno426

MemberPraetorianJan-29-2017 3:28 PM

At least Silent Hill never became action heavy but the series did deteriorate after 3.Resident Evil 4 has proven to be an impossible act to follow.
