ENGINEER SHIPS – Animal origin?

Several Alien fans believe that the Engineer ships are/were grown like ordinary plants in a vegetable garden.

But if we look at some concept art images (Steve Messing) of the ship in question, it is easy to see that they are very similar to hammerhead sharks. Is it possible that the Jaggernaut was made of/from a dead animal? You decide!

That's something I've thought. Thanks to Giger's magnificent art work,it has the same biomechanical look as the xenomorph leading one to believe it may have been alive at once point in time.

Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you in heaven for

I think it was envisioned as some living Organism, maybe part basic Organism and Part Plant?

Basically say a Star Fish Meets Pumpkin with some Mechanical Elements lol

I've always envisioned the Juggernauts growing amongst cliffs in huge channels of some writhing Giger biomech landscape and then flying off to other worlds by a space jockey who is also grown within each ship. When they reach their destination the two ends of the U or C shape meet in coitus and the ship impregnates itself thus creating the Alien egg cargo which is then deposited from the clearly labial openings of the ship.

I think of the design of the Derelicts/Juggernauts every time I see this picture:

There are some alien fans that prefer that the derelict ship was grown out like a plant. I am more of a naturalist/realist or what ever to call it and I think that the ship is something that the engineers built or maybe found somewhere when they were traveling in space and took back to their planet to evolve it. Just because they have the same shape as a shark doesn’t mean that they were grown like shark, they simply have the same shape. For example if you make a statue that looks like a horse it means that it has a shape like a horse but these are not the same things.

Auximenes: That is an interesting observation

Impregnates itself... Interesting idea. Like blood worms - they can do that if I'm not mistaken.

/Talking about a scorpion-like ship again.../

I think it's a good idea to revisit this thread, the old topics can be new for the newcomers.

A more or less relevant and rare image of the Derelict with closed entrance, I can't find it in higher res:

I believe the shape of the derelict ship and the Giger artwork concept fit but the shark-shape comparison is uncanny auximenes

Well HR Giger had suggested the Ships are GROWN thats how he viewed them, and i think indeed it could be grown like some kind of Bio-Mechanical Plant.

HR Gigers Mural also was very Derelict in Shape, and this Mural shows a connection between the Xenomorph and the Ship as though they are Genetically (if thats the right term) connected.    This Mural was supposed to be above the Egg Silos, where each Section had these Bio-Mechanical Pregnant Bellies that HR Giger envisioned would Produce the Eggs.

So in HR Gigers mind he saw a Genetic Connection between the Xenomorph, and the Ship and that the Ship Produced the Eggs, he also felt the ship was LIVING.

This Element and how the Derelict Atheistic was similar in construction to the Xenomorph Hives, did allow us to ponder if they could be constructed similar, and what if the Derelict was build from the Genetic Material of many Races Encountered, and the Xenomorphs use their Genetic Material to Create a Construction Compound.

Thats Pretty Alien right there and also quite Disturbing/Horrific.

But the Prequels Explored a LESS Alien Atheistic to these Ships, but it was always shown in HR Gigers work that Bald Humanoids in Space Suits not to far off the Engineers Suits had something to do with the Xenomorph and these Ships in some Sacrificial Capacity.

Was there some kind of Symbiotic Relationship or does ONE overrule the other?   But i think with the route they had gone with the Engineers and Technology, its maybe further from what HR Giger and envisioned and the Concepts and Aesthetics of the Derelict.

Your theories are very inspiring.

Maybe we can assume what Derelict is a... true Starbeast! And more - this ship it is evolution of xeno! Like as imago.

The ship laid eggs and go through space to another planets. Facehuggers created new xeno and xeno grown and undergoes metamorphosis until the evolve into a Ships.

And one question - role of Space Jockey? This words get a new value in this context. He a part of Derelict and space navigator? Or invader who captured Derelict and used it for their own purposes - the bridge of Derelict looks more clearly mechanical than organic or biomechanic. Maybe he integrate the bridge in Derelict - it's explain why facehugger infested him.

I talk only about Derelict from Alien. Not about Juggernauts.

Juggernauts looks more mechanical. Maybe they a non-organic replicas of Derelict special for Black Goo.
