Yep, I guess they could end up and rendezvous with the Covenant but then where are they coming from that they would be able to get there after the distress signal and the Covenant being diverted. Maybe this ship of theirs was somewhere closer to Paradise and was diverted as well.

Possibly.I did propose a theory some time back that the Covenant may not be the first ship to arrive on Paradise.

Ah, I see, that would make more sense then that both ships were heading to Paradise to the distress signal. If they are on separate ships that is.

Yeah,the idea was that maybe a ship possibly went looking for The Prometheus,and found Paradise.There's some holes in that theory,but that's why it's a theory.

I like that theory, it makes a lot of sense too.

What if Vickers was communicating with someone back on Earth during the Prometheus mission. She was sending data the whole time. She had her own interests at play. Someone at Weyland Yutani knows about the Prometheus mission. What if they already know of the distress signal and David's whereabouts. So what if Weyland Yutani has secretly placed commandos aboard the Covenant and has an "inside man" aboard as well.

Well it could also just be part of the normal crew.  I feel that WY having a secret inside man is too obvious and definitely too much like the original movie. Hopefully if they go this route, they do it in a clever way. But someone at  WY definitely knows about the Prometheus mission. Surely, the Covenant mission doesn't just happen upon David/Shaw distress signal while on their way to some other planet. 

Good point.My theory is whether it's Crudup,or someone else that there may be possible interference.Some one might be aware of the signal prior to the mission.

It would make sense that Crudup's character is the company man in Covenant; I'm also a little suspicious of Tennessee.

I have a feeling Dr. Ford wanted to study the creature growing inside Shaw (after David discovered it), so Ford may have been working towards the company's agenda in Prometheus. She tried to influence Shaw to go back to cryosleep (before Shaw hit her), and there are a few things in the W-Y Report that could imply someone began transmitting data to them.

As far as the security team goes, I think they arrive either before or after the main crew like you guys suggested.  The way the W-Y report, the Colonial Marines game, and River of Pain makes a big deal about the private security forces knowing stuff is a possible clue they become important later.

Let's just say for the sake of argument that the Covenant actually does just happen upon a distress signal. This informantion is relayed back to WY HQ while the crew is in hypersleep and it becomes top priority to recover David to learn about the Prometheus mission. To ensure the success of this mission, WY now would need someone aboard the Covenant to see to their agenda. This would mean if they didn't have an inside man from the get go, they surely have someone in mind they can persuade. 

^^The promise of bonus shares might be persuasive enough for someone to become the Judas of the group. 

Maybe someone sabotages the captain's cryosleep chamber because they know that in his weakened state Franco will die. This allows the murderer to blame it on the illness.  Crudup and Walter would be suspects from the start, because promotion is a possible motive for Crudup's character.  

Towards the end, we'd begin to see that Tennessee (who is supposed to be Daniels' friend) is quite possibly the Judas.  If we view Franco as a symbolic Jesus at the Last Supper, then somebody very well could be a Judas.  To me, Crudup is the red herring -- the one we're supposed to suspect. 

What's making me think Tennessee is the betrayer has nothing to do with what we've seen of him so far.  It has everything to do with the actor's previous roles.  McBride's motive could be something as simple as greed.  If that's the case, his motives might eventually become more complicated.  For example, the Neomorph/Belugamorph type could become his White Whale as he continues to pursue them exclusively for the Company.

Tennessee was seen issuing a weapon to a fleeing crew member in the trailer. Not saying you are wrong.

Then again, when some one lies, they are sometimes seen to do things like rub their noses like Tennessee did when he said that he could be counted on. Cue Twilight Zone music.

With the way Crudup's character behaves, it makes perfect sense for him to betray them.  I'll admit that Tennessee is sort of a long shot/wild guess.  It'd be harder to explain Tennessee killing Franco's character off (if that even happens at all).

It could be like ALIEN, where any and all covert activity is carried out by the android:  the Special Order was supposed to be for Science Officer eyes only, so maybe only Walter knows. I doubt it’s all on Walter’s shoulders, though.  Walter will likely try to represent company interests at times, but I can see Walter becoming more of an asset to the crew than a liability.

Interesting point about how Tennessee rubbing his nose could be indicative of lying!  After considering it from that angle, I'm looking at his lines in the prologue from different perspectives. I wonder what Yutani's visual polygraph program, the Quiet Eye, would detect by monitoring his face for microexpressions.

After the captain's gone, McBride's character moves up the ranks and gets more screen time.  His character has survival instincts, thus he makes it to the end with Daniels before it's potentially revealed that he (not Crudup) is the one who did it. He's able to avoid Daniels' suspicions until the end by acting like he's trying to help the crew survive...  when it's possible he's not expecting very many of them to make it back from the planet in the first place.  My idea is that we're left uncertain.

In my theory, the Security Officers were originally going to be the ones collecting specimen.  Walter is for whatever reason similarly unable to complete his mission on the planet. Daniels is unwilling to comply with the orders of the higher-ups.  One of the security officers contacts Tennessee in the Covenant and tells him the deal.  There are bonus shares involved for anyone willing to take some risks.  Vickers preferred to minimize risk; however, her genetic sibling, Vickers 4, may understand that sometimes you must take bigger risks to receive greater rewards.  FATHER prefers Vickers 4 to the others, because the apple fell closer to the tree in her case.

Rubbing the nose could also indicate an early symptom of what Jake already has as well..........

It's difficult to say anything for certain at this point, and there's no real way of knowing how much of the books is canon.  

I'm the type of person who over analyzes everything that's in the script, but not necessarily everything that's on the screen. My perspective on Vickers is partially based on Janek's line: "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with."

I honestly think at a certain stage of embryonic development, the developing organism ("Miss Vickers") was forced to divide a number of times...  Vickers 4 was awoken from cryostasis by the MU/TH/UR system before the one we met in Prometheus even died.  FATHER created backup copies of her, just in case, while MU/TH/UR is partial to the name "Vickers."  So in my view, Vickers has never been a robot:  she prefers the term "genetic sibling."  It turns out that FATHER's genius level intellect isn't controlled by a single gene or allele: none of them were able to become the child prodigy he wanted.  As a result, Sir Weyland began to favor David (who was able to fully express Sir Weyland's intelligence).

Thanks CarynDelacroix,actually that reminds me of a question i asked a while back regarding Vickers and MUTHER.At the main menu for the dvd of Prometheus,When it shows Vickers it says MUTHER 321.I've wondered what that meant and nobody really had an answer.

I think it would be safe to assume the corporation ALWAYS has at least one inside guy on ALL missions.

IMO they're making MUTHER a much bigger part of the mythos.

I'm not exactly sure what to make of it yet either.  Part of me suspects all the MU/TH/UR ideas are being related to Peter Weyland's own mother:  she was a professor of comparative mythology at Oxford; therefore, she had a few things in common with Dr. Shaw.  The MU/TH/UR system could partially be an homage to Sir Weyland's mom.  

In Prometheus, David brings up the idea that we all want to see our parents dead.  Most assume he's talking about Freud's perspective, where it's thought people want to subconsciously kill and replace their parents. He could be looking at it more from the perspective of comparative mythology and relating it to a big picture about creations surpassing their creators.

We might eventually see a flashback or a holographic form of Sir Weyland explaining how Miss Vickers couldn’t live up to her genetic potential.  I think he was trying to create the perfect daughter, but she was always a disappointment to him. Which is why the future of the company rests on David and Walter's shoulders (for now).  Each of the androids has the ability to carry out Weyland's will.  There's no genetic link between hair color and intelligence, so the blonde Miss Vickers wasn't any less intelligent just 'cause FATHER decided to make her a blonde.  

Vickers 4 would trick herself into believing that what FATHER does is "part of the natural order of things."  He tricks the embryo into dividing to produce 8 separate versions of her, thus she doesn't necessarily view herself as a clone.  

Even if Vickers 4 were a clone, people like Daniels are aware that cloning and genetic engineering sometimes happens with plants and livestock at this point.  Lambert's parents decided to have a girl; however, Lambert was going to be born a male.

Sir Weyland/FATHER's ghostly presence will continue to linger over the series and this new crew in some way.

It would be sort of like the Metal Gear Solid video games if you've ever played those.  It's based on real-world genetic science that emerged in the 90s, so they're always produced in batches of 8.  Vickers 4 would prefer not to be referred to as a "clone," though, since it's more like she's been genetically engineered from birth.  It would be debatable whether or not the company is "playing god" with their genetic siblings.

Weyland said "we're the Gods now" in his TEDtalk, so they've developed ways to genetically engineer the offspring from frozen embryo stage.  Weyland-Yutani begins experimenting with genetic science because they think that's what the gods do.  The clones would be revealed to be "more natural than we know," which almost redeems ALIEN: Resurrection, in a way.

The story with the Company would basically come full circle as soon as we learn more about why MU/TH/UR refers to him as FATHER & the process behind the clones.  FATHER switches Vickers' alleles around to make some of them blonde for no other reason than personal preference for the blonde ones.

Love those games,I've been replaying them lately(on Sons of Liberty right now)so i get what you're saying.Solid And Liquid were the only survivors of 8(actually there's also Solidus)they sacrifice all The others for Solid and Liquid Snake's perfection.Is that what you mean?

Essentially, yeah.  There are lots of concepts and ideas in that game series that would parallel what W-Y is doing and their obsession with perfection.  Oddly, I think there are also many parallels in Fallout 4:  the way the antagonist at the Institute calls himself FATHER and creates the biomechanical synths.

I played through Fallout 4 as a female, so the whole plot with the Institute taking my son hit me a bit harder and influenced my thinking on how some synths could be created from FATHER's DNA (and by extension MUTHER/Vickers' DNA).

I'll try to get back on topic after that detour to the Vickers stuff.

I’m beginning to think the security team is a separate group that arrives independently of the Covenant after receiving the coordinates. The River of Pain novel describes how security officers and a few colonial marines are eventually stationed at each colony regardless of if the colonists need them.  If the crew intercepts the signal (as many are thinking), then there’s a chance the ship carrying the security guys is a bit behind.

Love the Metal Gear games, still have The Phantom Pain to play, planning on starting that soon.

Phantom Pain is a great game.  All the stuff they added really worked for me.  I just haven't been back to it yet because I got stuck on this one side mission.  Some of the side missions can be a little frustrating if you're like me and need to do them all.

It's my understanding that each colony has a Colonial Marine Unit. (Novels) It would make sense that they would be in cryosleep during the last supper, or in a different area.  

Stationed on board is a possibility.Would they be coupled as well?
