MemberTrilobiteApril 28, 2017Faris was in the room with Oram's wife (sorry I don't recall her name) and got sprayed in the face with what could be assumed contaminated blood. Faris told her to stay put and then left locking the door to prevent escape. When Faris returned, she wouldn't let Oram's wife out. WHY? There was time to open to open the door and close it before the buster shot out. Faris was just as contaminated and ran all over the ship if contamination was the issue. They could have had two guns shooting at that morph.
Thoughts?
Breakdown of society...Didn't shake hands, can't see people's eyes and don't know the background or context of their comments. Forums are great but you have to ease into them as to see who you are dealing with. Thanks for the clarification, as i wouldn't have tied that to Nikki M.
I'm not sure we should be nailing these characters to the cross yet. We don't even know how standards are in this fictional future world. What is expected of experts and so on and so forth.
If it's true about David remarking somewhere that humanity is a dying species trying to resurrect itself, it's entirely possible our systems for training of any kind are in a state of disrepair. We already see a lot of corners cut in the modern world to bring down costs. Who knows if this crisis has deepened in this fictional world 100 years from now.
Just look at some of the problems with human systems that are showcased in Prometheus, Alien, and Aliens. It is clear this in this universe, most organized human operations aren't working up to par.
Not good enough? Look at Tennessee's viral video. He basically is making fun of the vetting process because it missed so much of his background. But clearly we know exactly what level of standards are adhered to in this future fictional world.
Also, let's assume these people were trained well. Does that mean that they are immediately going remember their training and all the simulations the first time they see some creature birth itself out of their friend's back?
Also, I'm pretty sure the setup here is that the crew has been led into this situation by an incompetent leader. But clearly that has little to do with why things seem so haphazard. Must just be bad writing. No way was this intentional. Sarcasm aside, I'm pretty sure it's been made clear that Oram's incompetence will be showcased in this film as a major exacerbating factor in the ordeal.
Really don't get why we are already seeing people tearing this film apart over idealistically rooted criticisms especially when we still haven't seen it.
Thankyou for saying something. I saw that comment from Sparkz and wanted to say something, but figured everyone would just ignore him until he left. Truly in poor taste. I've seen people kicked for less.
(EDIT: Just saw the comment about Nicky Minaj. Sparkz, I get it but it's risky to come into a place like this and reference something not everyone may be familiar with. I appreciate you clarifying your comment)
"Not good enough? Look at Tennessee's viral video. He basically is making fun of the vetting process because it missed so much of his background. "Also, let's assume these people were trained well. Does that mean that they are immediately going remember their training and all the simulations the first time they see some creature birth itself out of their friend's back?" - yes
At minimum, in that situation, the freaking Combat Medic I asked for would have adminisered morphine, which would have likely made its way into the neo. Instead of letting that patient die a horribly painful death. And, I would expect an agreement with my colleagues that, as a male, if something living comes out of me - kill it.
QueenElizabethShaw My only Objection against the the viral videos would be if they are used to fill in the gaps within the film. You should be able to appreciate the construction and coherence of the movie by itself, not as some kind of interactive experience. Remember the general audience is not following those virals or the discussions like we are. I am not saying this is the case with Alien Covenant though. We have to wait and see.
Misunderstood your comment. I thought it was loaded with the assumption that we're being presented with an entire crew who had all been trained equally as sheep dogs, and this film has failed to portray properly trained people accurately. That said I understand what you are saying about those selected to go to the surface. It's a valid point
Yes, I wasn't referencing the viral video as a requirement to understand the movie, only as food for thought in regards to this discussion. I do agree, all this context needs to be presented in the film. The general audience will not be bothered to go hunt all this stuff down online prior, nor would most even be aware of it.
Here's hoping the movie won't be a POS
It seems the 10 minute video has been shut down from the great link a member provided :(
QES: Thank you.
I agree .. we haven't seen the film in its entirety. There is a lot to see and think about.
Spearfish: I agree about a Combat Medic. They would have changed things a lot. It's an interesting comment because I have not seen anyone except for David playing Medic (like in the Last Supper Viral video). David just stands around and watches everything unfold. I guess Bishop did too in Aliens until he was told other wise.
I suppose one has to think think that maybe Faris is a First Aider and what she saw on the the guys back was enough for her to lose it.
My son is a Combat Medic in the US Army (He spent 3years with the 6th Ranger Training Batt. and is now moving to the 3rd Cavalry.)
Today I have been dedicated to post on as many topics as possible until I pass out from drinking too many beers.
Regular Parrot Give your son regards from a fellow 68W.
No worries. This is a really complex situation to discuss while typing on handhelds. This would be fun around a large table...
Spearfish LOL! Try to imagine having a conference call!
Thanks to him for his service. And to you as a supporting parent. Tell him that I want him in "Awakening".
A phone call would amazing. Would be like Congress, trying to state your case. Haha!
Separate note: Is there a person who can 1) let me surf all pages of a string (up 1, down 1, down 2 , etc)? I have to reread my posts and adjust as I process the situation. And) put the page skip button at the top? My thumbs get hot scrolling to the bottom to skip to the last page. Am I just tech challenged?
@DK Thank You and THank You for your service
SParkz: understood.
Spearfish: We could probably talk about this for an entire day!

Ha! Good company for sure. Analytical and emotional. Challenges all of us because we are all somewhere on that spectrum.
Thought I'd bump this since we now have a video interview with Amy Seimetz commenting on why her character Faris acted as she did in this scene.
Video is here. Her comments on the subject start at 1:09.
