Negativity!

MemberOvomorphJune 09, 20176592 Views35 RepliesNot sure what is going on with the forum at the minute however it seems that every other topic I click on is filled with a fair bit of negativity and trolling. I come here on a daily basis, sometimes just to read and sometimes to participate and have found all the members ( bar from a couple whom I won't name ) to be genuinely nice and intelligent people. Being a gay man myself it saddens me to see in 2017 the word ' homo' being used a couple of times! sorry for the small rant, just wanted to get this off my chest! That aside, Still great work and updates form you guys!
We are all Homos...Homo sapiens ;)
I think we all have our own opinions.. but its good to try and respect each others, not everyone will enjoy every movie.. i have not seen GOTG2 yet but i never enjoyed the first movie.. just like a Kids Super Hero flick to me lol but i could see where it gets a lot of attention as its a very good popcorn super hero flick the kids can go and enjoy too.
AC is a movie that has some problems.. i think its up to each person if they wish to have criticism or praise for it.

Ha Ha...
Yeah there are a lot of Great Old Sci-fi movies.... i think some of the Younger Generation can not appreciate them though because they cant overlook the Effects... i have the same problem with a few young ones i know who love new Dr Whos and dont like the Old Ones.... mainly because the costumes look Dumb and Fake LOL
I will agree that the 80's was when Sci-Fi effects started to look credible as far as realism... some of the latter 70's too. In which ALIEN is part of.

Frankly, I LOVE classic pre-80's sci-fi, because it all had to be done old-school, like how they did the Flatscreen displays in 2001, as example...they faked-it-up and it looked Beautiful.
The Black Hole had some pretty cool ideas, and some great visuals, a Transparent starship, pretty cool idea, gotta say.

Blackwinter-witch - They say The Black Hole was Disney's answer to Star Wars. Of course, it's not a perfect movie, but the things you mention are true, I mean that's why I like it so much: it has 'some great visuals' and special atmosphere. And the actors are great, I think. My favourite scene is the battle in the frozen garden.
There was info about its remake with Hugh Jackman, but now I don't hear anything about it.
Well, who knows with movie-rumors, right? We'll just have to wait and see, as always.
The scene in The Black Hole that always gets me is the asteroid rolling down the core of the ship and them scrambling to get out of the way. :)
That movie had some fantastic visuals and great concepts, like mechanically-enabled telepathy between VINCent and Kate. The dark horror of what Reinhardt did to his crew, and of course Maximillian, who is the absolute personification of Menace, always liked that and how they hinted that Reinhardt was NOT the one truly in control, but Max was. :D

I agree with you, the asteroid scene is huge! :)
Yeah, your line about the dark horror in it, totally true. They could make a horror remake as well.
We need a Max-Factor in the new Alien chapter, too. :D
They really could make a genuine horror with it yes, just accentuate some points more, it wouldn't take much really!
And you'd stiill be able to keep the action in it, also.
Heh, Max vs David...if David thought getting his head torn off was bad, he'd be in for a real wake-up call with Max's wirling blade arms.
Cute pun also ;)
Thinking about it, I'm gonna give a 'nod' to that movie in ALIEN: Manticore. The Palomino was a good, no-nonsense design of an exploratory vessel, pretty realistic, and fits the aesthetic of 'used-universe' that ALIEN is built upon.
There's a convo between a pair of characters and it'd add some detail about when a fairly important star system was investigated historically-speaking.
Might even tool up a short-story about the first expedition to Shadowfall by the Palomino.

@ati. Not sure "The Black Hole" quantifies as a great sci-fi movie.
Not terrible, but there are so many others from the 70's I put ahead of it...
Silent Running, Omega Man, Logan's Run, etc...
I think the reason for the bit of negativity is fans are generally disappointed with AC. Not a bad movie at all, it just had so many plot-holes and disconnects that it frustrated a lot of us on this forum.
We were all hoping for a film that blew us away and answered some of the questions from Prometheus. Instead we have a movie that ignored so much of the good stuff from the previous iteration and left us gasping for straws on many important issues.
Just frustrating to say the least...
Yeppers, that's a very good summation of what went wrong with ALIEN: Covenant.
The holes and disconnects are things that any movie or book must strive to eliminate as it's really just a point of antagonism of the fanbase.

Silent Running is interesting but it is not attractive to me. I hope you understand what I'm trying to tell.
I like Logan's Run but there are several childish and boring scenes in it. And it is not a space sci-fi.
I know there are a lot of people who do not like The Black Hole. I do. :) Its music is awesome as well.
@Ati. Black Holes is one of those movies that people either love or hate. Great score as you say, but the whole setup left me a little amused.
I will say that David has a lot of Maximillian in him...Offing humans and robots alike...
Blackwinter-witch - Brilliant idea. Palomino is back. :) I mean Palomino 2. :)
Just finished writing it in, and have an early-stage rough-out of it's story with regards to it's mission to the Lakota star system to investigate signs of habitable worlds. :)
As for it landing tail-first, well if Elon Musk can do it with conventional rocketry nowadays in the real-world, there's NP with such with advanced tech. :)
...gotta do some picture searching for ground vehicles that 'fit' the ALIENverse aesthetic, which isn't too hard, and also plausibly fit aboard albeit with VERY little garage-space, and can be deployable via an extensible cable-crane-lift system.
How the crew gets down to the ground, well the central shaft below the main body could plausibly have an elevator system for personnel and small/light cargo items.
The Palomino flies again!!
THIS time with a happier ending. :)
