Ridley Scott himself admitted it in an interview with IGN: George Lucas' origin story trilogy and sequels were the model for his own Alien prequels. And he doesn't dismiss the idea of a cross over with Blade Runner “I think that, you know what, George has always proved that. Of course there’s always something. George Lucas, you know, and the way he’s handled Star Wars has been spectacular. It’s what I’ve been trying to do to really evolve Alien, because in those days I wasn’t into making sequels, but now suddenly you realize, ‘Well, that’s stupid.’ I’ll use the word ‘duh’ again, right? You’d better get into sequels, duh. So that’s in a way what I’ve been doing.Scott was also asked about the possibility of Alien and Blade Runner existing in the same universe, responding that: “Well, I think if Alien is in the air, Blade Runner is on Earth. And probably is a very good reason why you wanna leave Earth.” Do you think Ridley Scott has any artistic aspirations for these new projects or is he just after the money? Can anything good come out of a Alien/Blade Runner combo?

@Joylitt

What about AC for you makes it hurt to watch?

Genuinely asking. I've seen it 4 times and wish more people had enjoyed it like I have.

RZA Well, I would say it is not "alien" enough. I think in the original movie from 1979 there were many things apart from the titular monster that were "alien", like the planet, even the Nostromo was eerie. "Prometheus" was mysterious, even though it ultimately failed to deliver on its promise. Covenant lacks the "awe" factor to me; the plot is perfunctory, and it made the Alien universe shrink.

joylitt, I see all your points and yea I can see how one might feel that way.

I think for me, while I love and praise the Alien'79 I dont hold myself to it where each movie from the franchise needs the "Alien" formula or else it wont feel Alien enough like you say.

 Funny thing is while I love AC a lot and have no real complaints... now that I think about it, my only gripe would be that is TOO much like Alien'79 and doesn't feel enough like Prometheus! LOL AC didn't feel all that original.

Aside from all the horrific moments and tension...

What I love most about Alien Covenant I think are the moments of exposition. Davids prologue scene with Shaw, his conversations with Weyland, Walter and Oram. These moments are what really bring me into the movie and this universe Ridley is creating.

RZA I don't like formulaic concepts neither. Prometheus was a step in the right direction... but I think the franchise is drifting away from sci-fi and delving into fantasy territory now. I don't think Ridley Scott ever actually read a science fiction book, and that is ok, but be needs to surround himself by real sci fi writers.

The Chariots of the Gods and Paradise Lost are not Sci fi. As far as the Blade Runner sequel is concerned, I really have my doubts that they bothered to go back to Philip K. Dick's work.

joylitt I wonder how different AC would have been had Lindelof and Spaights worked on it.

For the religious aspect of Covenant, books like The Chariots of the Gods and Paradise Lost, I feel were concepts from Prometheus which was half the merge that resulted in Covenant. Besides, since Alien 3, religion has a part in the Alien lore so it fits imo.

Lawrence of Arabia A bit OT but you made an interesting point that I had not considered. Alien 3 is hated by many yet ironically brought religion into the franchise for the first time and has been part of it since Prometheus.

RZA you know what? I actually think Covenant would have been much better with Lindelof on board
