BigDave

Sorry for the delay, I don't follow this thread, as I am not interested in how lead characters are mutilated just for kicks. I still don't understand why the goo is more effective on Shaw then on the female Engineers when "they are us" (according to Prometheus).

The fate of Daniels is irrelavant, but most likely will be just fine because you cannot waste time introducing new characters in the last movie of a trilogy. Unless you shoe horn in young Ripley or you resurrect Shaw.

And yes, the women of the cannibal tribe in Bone Tomahawk had there limbs cut off, there eyes gauged out or sewn in (can't remember) and probably there tongues also cut out.

...Unfortunately, I've never been particularly good at writing happy endings, lol.

It does not need to be a happy ending to be a good story. A3 proved that.

ali81 What happened with Walter could make for some fine fan fiction. I saw a story that might be on BWW's sticky that was really good.

dk, defo, the trailers def gave the film away. they should never have shown the back burster or neomorph. maybe even keeping the motes a secret would have been a better way to go aswell

Nice to see this. We discussed this a bit before but this thread seems different in approach. The bursting is interesting to ponder as we see the burst through bones. I would think the critter would exit the easiest way possible- through muscle/fat/skin. It seems like it could get its feet on the inside of the rib cage and shoot out under shoulder blades and to to the side of the spine like below.

Likes- Pretty much everything is stated above.

Dislikes- Deleted scenes added would have gone a long way making the movie better. The David/Shaw clip should have been incorporated in the beginning somehow. I just was not too keen on the neomorph for some reason. These may not have been an issue had I not chosen to view the tons of spoilers and just waited for the movie. By the time I saw the movie, a lot had already been revealed. Disney- ixnay on the oilers spay!

they keep promising to scare the shit out of me. I think a return to the less is more approach could help. The imagination can't work as well when most everything is shown.

im surprised fox allowed the book to be released with so many parts of the novel not matching the movie. must not think that the fans can actually read and tell that things don't add up. personally I don't consider the novel canon

Thank you cuponator3000 for listing my Likes above. I loved Alien: Covenant too.

From this list, I would edit one thing to reconcile my opinion on the shower scene. Someone before mentioned that scene could have been more like Ripley and Clemens in Alien 3 relaxing and talking...then the xenomorph. I agree but that is a small personal preference and a "so what" overall in my opinion of what should have been different in the film.

Dislikes: The transition from Prometheus to Alien: Covenant with very little to explain what happened to Dr. Shaw. Yes, I saw what happened but what I want to see is Dr. Shaw's reaction when she wants to burn incense in a cabin built by the lake and David tells her he wants to build a xenomorph queen. I bet momma was pissed with his bait and switch after she glued his head back on and then drank algae-malts the whole juggernaut trip. I want to see that argument and I could care less if only one side is organic.

Nice topic ali81, thank you.

I don't think you're nit picking ali81. It is perfectly reasonable to question something happening different from the expected. The morph travel doesn't appear to be slowed down one bit when the facehugger penetrated Kane's helmet face shield, below. No hesitation is seen from the morph in speed due to a difficult material hurdle.

I believe I read that the Neomorph releases enzymes to melt the flesh and bone surrounding them in preparation for exit from the host. This enzyme release would explain Ledward's skin distortion on his back before the eruption and provide and answer as to how the neomorph prepares a way for itself to reach outside and start up the scream-wet crunch-then-silence party for each person it meets.

Let us see...

Likes: The attempt to spend more time with higher quality characters, Michael Fassbender's performance, David's descent into madness, the color pallete, the cinematography, the action sequences, the shower scene, David/Oram/Neomorph scene, the David/Walter scene (technically, it was amazing and it also pretty well written), the design of the Covenant, the protomorph design, the sound design, the questions and themes behind the story, and the final scenes (very scary and tense reveal of David even if we all saw it coming).

Dislikes: the design of the city (cool, but not what I wanted), the design of the engineers, the discarding of the engineers, the pacing/runttime, the human characters were once again pretty weak, it was not horror (I don't mind straight scifi, but they keep promising to scare the shit out of me. There are absolutely some scary ideas and themes going, but these aren't horror movies to me), the editing, and the final scene is great but sets up the next film to start with yet another underwhelming human protagonist.

based on the song the entrance of the gods in the vahlhalla, there is a myth about this, it is called RAGNAROK, the engineers should find the only body left, presumably the body of David intact, maybe the CPU of Walter them on the floor in the hall of the heads.
the engineer could not do anything other than insert the CPU, assuming that this is the problem and put Walter into operation to discover the architect.
I would see this act as the cavalcade of the Valkyries, towards Origae, the last horizon of ancient civilization.
they would only find death, but in time to understand who the space jokey is.

I agree on the extra scenes could be better, in prometheus the engineer who talks, I was stunned, an ingredient like that could be effective as extra in AC.For the next movie between news and various inspirations, I think it will be a film which combines Prometheus and AC in a single film.
The mystery of the Engineers is too exciting to leave it hidden again.
The character that I preferred of the crew was Walter because despite being an android, in his I is something more, but has not yet come out from being alive enough.
I am convinced that David was right, Walter loves Daniels, but he does not know what love is

Thank you all for the comments.
ali81 I'm sorry if this character has not offered more, personally I have been helped with the novelizations to learn more about what I did not know and the film did not get in the 2 hours of film, I hope that somehow you can be satisfied.
hey I imagine Daniels' death with a Tennessee badass next door when everything went bankrupt, as if the Covenant were the Titanic ;D

what I don't get, know that I think about it, is why did the neomorphs erupt from the parts of the body that they did. the first erupts from the middle of the back after the motes penetrate through the ear and the second through the mouth after the motes enter through the nasal cavity. surely it should have made more sense the other way around. the nasal cavity would have given the motes access directly to vital organs so id have expected that neomorph to have emerged from the chest/ back section but maybe just nit picking though it is easy to nit pick with this film lol

i hope that Daniels' death is painfull as hell and maybe wel see some good acting. it only my opinion but Daniels is the weakest lead character in the franchise. id like to see Tennessee survive as he offered something onscreen. his character had some interest but Daniels was flat. I sometimes wonder if RS had held off and cast Theron as Daniels what would AC have been like.

Ingeniero - 'I read that Alan Dean Foster had to really consider what was included in the Alien: Covenant Origins novel because he did write the novelization of Aliens and wanted to reconcile with later characters in the story line.'

Yes, Foster wrote the novelizations of Alien, Aliens, and Alien3. The Alien 4 novelization was written by A.C. Crispin. Prometheus was published only in Japan if I know correctly.

And yes, Scott and Fox must have had serious plans concerning how to connect the prequels and the old movies.

I think the same.

'I love Le's other variations for mass production below.'

Khang Le's work showing the garden of 'mass production' resembles some scenes of the movie 'Forbidden World (1982) - one of the well-known Alien rip-offs.'

Once in a while a feel good movie does the trick. It helps knowing someone in a sci fi/horror movie will be in it possibly seeing some range in acting skills, and it would be interesting to see Paul Hogan.

Maybe McBride will do a Bishop knife game with a machete!

If that is the last we have seen of Dr. Shaw then I do believe we were ripped off a bit. Is that really it?

40 seconds of Dr. Shaw making eyes at David in Prologue: The Crossing while charging up the spaghetti in his neck and then straight to her opened up, shown for seconds, in Alien: Covenant. I really hope that is not the last seen of Dr. Shaw but the outlook is very poor. David does write of mutagen reanimation in his notes so it might be wide open for business on Planet 4 for a Dr. Shaw xeno-zombie comeback.

The Hatton image (above) can give us a little hope when showing a xenomorph factory similar to the Khang Le image (below).

Two different concept artists appear to have the same instructions from production in regards to concepts for the Prometheus sequel...so this embryo set up might be something yet to see in a future film. I love Le's other variations for mass production below.

By "Original Brothers Creation" are you referring to David's works on Planet 4 BigDave (Corporate AI obtaining Mutagen AI tech)?

"having AI pulling the strings and Humans being Pawns to allow them to obtain the Xenomorph"

I'm leaning toward that scenario above because of "biomechanical" is something we have yet to see. That event that was created by combining human's AI (David/Mother) with the Engineer's AI (black goo). I'm not necessarily talking about the Waltermorph theory but with human AI in charge of black goo/mutagen testing. And maybe still a Waltermorph. That theory needs updating.

You're most welcome Ati.
