I think the SJ's "grow" just about whatever they need. The chair grows around the seated pilot. I can inagine the SJ ship itself having grown out of and then detaching from some larger structure, which could itself have either been mechanical or biological. I hope Ridley and Co. come up with something big and disturbing. On a slightly different note, I think it's pretty cool the value we get out of movies like this. I've enjoyed hours and hours revisiting the original Alien, all the bonus features I can stand, not to mention Giger's books, pondering what this movie MIGHT be like, and it doesn't come out for another four MONTHS!

I've been stained :( It was unfortunate for me that I saw Aliens before I saw Alien. I love Alien. I love Aliens. Alien 3 was okay, but I left the theater severely disappointed. I didn't have that feeling of dread and anxiety that I got from the first two. Alien: Resurrection - well, they just should have left that one alone. Not a horrible movie, but all the dumb wise-cracks and the lame character named Call, just ruined it for me. Ridley - take us back to the creepy horror, please!!!

Just a few pictures to help with the discussion of how the facehugger gets onto Kane's face through the glass of his helmet. I've read about it breaking the glass instantly (don't know if that is officially stated anywhere or not), but the picture of the helmet doesn't really look like broken glass. And when it jumps onto the glass, it doesn't look like anything has broken (albeit, they do cut away almost instantly, so they didn't really need to show it actually breaking). It would be interesting to find out if there is any 'official' way it got to Kane's face. Then again, we could be reading way more into this than was ever intended. :-)

I think the hissing sound we hear in the movie when the facehugger grabs his facemask is a clear indication that it used acid to eat through the faceplate. Just enough to get through. That middle pic there shows the edges around the hugger are melted. JMO

@Shardy I never saw it that way, but it does make sense to me. Alien 3 - It was just okay to me. I felt it ended way to slowly and the visuals of Ripley going into the fire below was just too dorky for me. Alien Resurrection - well, ugh! I was not a fan of the comic remarks through the movie. They should have been scared out of their minds, but instead, they seemed more like they were on a journey instead of trying to fight for their lives. The character Call - YAWN! The new alien at the end - double YYAAWWNN! That is what ultimately ruined it for me - and having it sucked out through that window - and the blood bubbles. OMG!!! :(

Is anyone thinking of the derelict itself as a kind of living creature? Think of an insect like a bee (derelict) flying through the air (space) to land on different flowers (planets) and "pollinate" them? The SJ's simply assist to this end?

@Rick, the water droplets drip up because of the way the scene was filmed (continuity error) in order for the facehug to spring out realistically they had the egg upside down.... I was also mentioned in a post a few days ago the possibility of the Engineers having technology that grows rooms of the Derelict, which could be a possibility of why the egg chamber appears to be below ground level, i.e. after the crash the egg chamber grows into the surface of the planet.......

Good point jimmy, haven't seen a post on any Alien forum asking about just one of the recesses being laser-covered. Like some here say, maybe the rest of the eggs died off. Or Roger Daltrey wouldn't let the production steal too much of his 'thunder' as well as his 'lightning'.

Welcome! (Great name you have there). That scene always bothered me too, unless the egg chamber is not a part of the derelict, but a cavern underneath it! There are numerous other posts about this topic if you care to look through the lists. You will find a plethora of info. and theories from our extremely versed members!

The wife and I just watched ALIEN a couple weeks ago after a looong time. As for the thin blue light over the eggs that Cain just "happens" to land on... Does anyone else get the impression that the rest of the eggs in the egg chamber are dead? Some even looked knocked over to me. And... Cain's in a spacesuit. The job of a spacesuit is to insulate the occupant so they don't freeze to death within seconds in space. How could he tell it was hot?

db... I watched Alien last night and wondered the same thing. Maybe a considerable amount of condensation formed on his face shield as he was lowered into the chamber. I also noticed that the opening to the chamber in the derelict did not look natural/purposeful. Looked more like acid ate away at the derelict and created the opening. And an interesting angle to the shot of Kane walking on the 'platform' above the eggs. Sure does Membrane. And an SJ is certainly not fitting through that hole. So a chestburster bursts out of the SJ in the chair in the end of Prometheus and pukes acid on the floor and disappears into the hole?

I really dont get all this talk about protection.... As a kid and even now having seen the film a billion times, I thought the blue lazer was more of an alert and system than anything else. It does not protect the eggs but it does 'react'.. Tripping a securty wire/lazer comes to mind..

MembraneAlien Movies ForumEgg Chamber
db... or maybe the chestburster bursts out, not entirely killing the SJ, and just before the SJ dies, it manages to kill the chestburster in that spot, leaking acid to eat away the floor. Or as that begs the potential question, "how did the SJ kill it if it's 'fused' with the chair?", then maybe someone (or something) else killed the chestburster and either got off the derelict or died (and being an organic being, there is no longer a trace of it after so many years)?

Hanging out with gay guys is probably one of THE best ways to meet a single woman. Stick with me on this one....... You go out to your boring duff duff nightclub with the same gold-necklaced black guys and lebs (I'm not being racist, I hate everyone equally,) and all of them are strutting around and the women all go nuts for them and ignore the smart guys in the nice outfit he chose to go out in because he wanted to impress some of the ladies and is white (yes I hate white people probably more than anyone, and I'm as white as they come...Equal opportunity racism here remember....) When you go out with your gay mates, just about EVERY WOMAN IN THE CLUB is SINGLE and there to hang out with the gay guys, because they know there is FAR LESS CHANCE OF BEING HIT ON, cause you know the guys are all over each other and not the ladies, leaving the door open for the very very few straight guys that go out with their gay mates because they really don't give a rat's arse what they do in the privacy of their own home....And in some cases, the bathroom stalls in the clubs... Hey long as the urinal's free, once again, do I look like I care? Not in the slightest. And gay guys know how to dance, which the ladies also like I hear, so it's not a bad idea to try some of their moves.... It's win win as far as I can see...... Damn, I need to get out more.......

well, as you know I have been un able to log on from home so I have been coming in early to work and finding time during the day to post and keep a vigilant eye out on these forums...so far the only danger to these boards that i can find is ME...I am a sick addicted Prometheus Movie fan and confessed forum addict. I have scavaged and hunted and sniffed out every Alien related piece of info I could find and watched all of the Ancient Alien Eps. I have read and examined as much of Necronomicon as I am able to in one sitting. I have read all of the synopsys and fake scripts and overall theories from anyone and everyone and even seen some of the best documentaries and aquired info I had not even known of in the past 33 years since Ridley & The Gang 1st gabbed hold of this thing. I will be 50 one week after the film comes out and 2 if we count FRANTZ...lol... I have watched members here like Snorklebottom become Science Fiction writters and speculators such as Rick and Neurion and too many others to even mention make fabulous speculative posts that have all enhanced and justififed every minute I feel that i spend here. My point is... I think of you guys and this board constantly and as the film's official release approaches I grow more and more excited not just to see it, But to see and hear what all of YOU think of it when it comes out !!! To me, the after-discussions here are what I am really looking forward to the most !!! Have a day you guys, I guess you'll find out what kind of day pretty soon. Cheers, ~Sparty@ThePrometheusParty.

PrometheusForTheWinPrometheus ForumAny connection between symbols on head and SJ pods?
In the writing, i think there is some sort of code. A language is based on different symbols, or letters, repeating themselves in order to be identified as words. As this symbol repeats, i suppose we could assume it is a language, but in order to decipher ot we need more symbols.

And also i found it is not cuneiform. Cuneiform creates wedge shaped writing, there are circles in this writing. Perhaps our awesome Elizabeth Shaw can enlighten us... In over 100!days!

Spartacus: ..."you cannot miss the thought that if we, Mankind suddenly appeared from above in any other world, we would be considered the Gods...wouldn't we?" In the origially televised "Chariots of the Gods" documentary (back in the 70's). It begins with videotaping a tribe from South America who were visited by missionaries who arrived in a Cesna. Weeks later, the missionaries left and returned to "the skies" in their vehicle. 3 years later, the missionaries returned to the remote tribe. They found a full-sized Cesna built out of thatch sitting in the middle of the village. Every detail was intact from the rotating propellor and wheels, to the lettering and numbering on the sides and wings. The members of the tribe had been worshiping it in hopes of their return. The missionaries were speechless. Makes you wonder...

"I think you'll find the term 'Space Jockey' originally appeared in a Robert Heinlein Sci Fi novel, 1960's.." Dropyourlinen, it´s also likely that the term "space jockey" was already used in some horse race in the XX century as a nickname to some incredible fast jockey guy . :) Of course I answered Bacon Boy question considering the context of the "Alien" franchise...

ArchEtechPrometheus ForumXeno life cycle...
As a weapon concept, the Queen Hive cycle like ants and Bees makes a lot of sense. They can reproduce quickly by laying thousands of eggs which create a parasitic form that forms a pupa stage in the host, kills the host, and then grows to adult. The adult form then has different form, workers, warriors, drones, queens again like certain insects. Insects are one of the oldest high life forms on earth. They reproduce and adapt so fast they can embody the definition of infestation. 6' long insects in any form would be an apex predator. The are the fastest, strongest, toughest, and most deadly creatures on earth for their size, without getting into bacterial and viral life forms. Cameron's concept was a good one. But it's not that Alien. It's too based in Earths concept of life. Still, it's possible, and a sound concept especially if one assumes the SJ make Earth. Morphing a host into an egg, and another host into a face hunger recipient just seems really inefficient for a being engineered specifically as a weapon. Is an extra, wasted stage. That doesn't mean it couldn't evolve that way by accident. Lots of mutations in creatures are weird and not efficient, but as long as they don't hinder reproduction too much to become extinct, then the trait can stay. This is why in my opinion, the Xeno humanoid in Rifley's concept isn't the actual "weapon". It's the aftermath of something we haven't seen. The Xeno is the random, or not so random result, of something that could keep evolving, adapting and consuming everything. But there lies another interesting direction. Why would space jockey's engineer a giant insect, bio-mec, cyborg, Xeno creature when a virus, or bacteria would be much more effective at destroying life on a planet? It's particularly disturbing when one ponders the possibility of a micro organism, or nano bot that can mutate anything it touches at genetc, micro, elemental, or even atomic level wether "alive" or not. That is end of days type of stuff. What if there is no alien "life cycle" because it never repeats but constantly mutates. So something we haven't seen creates the eggs. The eggs make face hungers, the huggers make chest bursters, the burster after absorbing the host grows bigger........ (this we have seen)....Then the alien eats brains and absorbs the intelligence of the victim on some level (alternate ending) or impregnates another host by some other means (hinted at) sexual, rape, secretions, which becomes yet another form of Xeno. Why couldn't the host that is cocooned simply transform into the "adult form"? As a weapon if this thing could breed, and infest, by several methods all at the same time (sexual, implantation, secretion of something, etc) by whatever the situation demands....now that is a nasty weapon particularly if it's constantly evolving and absorbing something from the host. So by this method you'd have a dog/bat/human/horse/snake etc etc all mixed together in a very short period of time. That is pretty disturbing.

time dilation: a space-voyage at near light speed is a one way trip into the future, thats real physics. effects with a round-trip would be interesting. planet of the apes used something a bit like it, i.e. the crew landed back on earth in the far future without realizing it was earth due to massive change

The 2001 Planet of the Apes had a weird ending! That still bugs me a bit. . . How did he go back in time near the "present", but he ended up about 50years ahead of his present. Yet somehow apes managed to talk and learn how to act and do human like stuff in the space of barely 50years! Lol. DAMN DIRTY APES!

GuestPrometheus ForumEvidence of "Bio-Mechanoid" within Alien
"@centrosphere...why would you want to eradicate the one term that universally defines the artistic vision of H.R. Giger and Ridley Scott as it refers to the derelict, the Sj and the xeno in 'Alien'? It's the essence of the thing...the fundamental definition of what 'Alien' is." As I said before _ in the thread about interestellar scenes _ my personal sense of esthetics asks for some degree of realism. That´s why I´m pursuing a more rigorous definition of "bio-mechanical". To me, "bio-mechanical" is a term that or defines some kind of "cyborg", a mix of biology (self-organing matter) and hardware (some sort of assembly), or is a tautological term. As the xenomorph clearly isn´t a cyborg, to me it´s only an organism, albeit a very singular one. Besides, I would dispute what is the "essence of the thing" here. You must remember that a movie is a complex, collective product. The original O´Bannon idea for the movie, that I would consider as the "core" of Alien properly, is silent about the nature of the xenomorph. Actually, he was inspired by the behaviour of some species of wasps that put their eggs inside living beens. Also, Giger is not a science person, he is an artist. His influences are from Salvador Dali and Ernst Fuchs _ look at this: Artistic freedom can, and must, go wherever it wants to. But if we are talking sci-fi here, and not fantasy, then we should ask what kind of being the xeno is. I think the internal coherence of the "Alien" universe, where Scott brought to sci-fi the realities of an industrial society ("truck drivers in space", etc.), deserves that we develops a science-based understanding of the xeno. Of course, some persons will like this approach, some will not. As ArchEtech just said, every approach can be accused of "reading too much" into the movie. I can see that my initial proposal _ erradicate the term "biomechanical" _ is heretic to many "Alien" fans that love Giger work. BTW, I love Giger art also, and my take here is not geared to denigrate his work; I´m just asking for scientific coherence in a science-based setting for the "Alien" saga. Peace!

ArchEtechPrometheus ForumEvidence of "Bio-Mechanoid" within Alien
I think it's simply an artistic term. I think we have read into too much, and probably considerably more than Scott. I like the idea of a third life form: 1) Biological/Organic 2)silicone/robot/metallic 3)Pure Cyborg Hybrid So you baiscally get a half DNA organic, half computer chip machine based thing able to reproduce itself by some untold hybrid method.
