ninXeno426 As long as there is a fanbase, the franchise will be alive
Yes there were bad ones, but judging by her arguments was that the movie was a big disappointment. The studios forcing the Xenos in and Scott abandoning/nuking the Engineers (and the ones interested in them) in favor of the psycho AI. It was a case of great expectations and not delivering on them.
Even Kermode, who Liked Prometheus, featured Covenant in his worst movies of the first half of 2017 (at number 5 out of 10), citing that Life (the Alien rip-off) was more original than Covenant.
It cannot be killed but I think there needs to be some closure tying it to the original movie before branching out anymore.
I think both fell short in their own ways but could have been better without worries of time constraints.
The link you clicked on to view that image surely white gooed your computer with interesting virusse...embryos lol!
There is also the idea that there is no such thing as perfection. David is/was certainly imperfect. There can be that whole circular argument to consider philosophically. Is perfection intellectual, physical survival, a combination? And who or what sets the standard?
There are some interesting ideas here for sure and worth exploring. I would hope they tie things to Alien first before all that though. It seems like the longer this goes on, the less mysterious the original movie is. The mystery was part of the WTF fear and sparked wonder.
If thats the case, engineer and what happened to the deacon? story please!
"Well. I am kinda surprised AC was on that screenjunkies list, specially with so many bad movies hitting theaters this year"
here here joylitt, there was some bad ones.
@Dark Nebula, lol! and looks like a classic photo bomb by a ghost or alien entity or time traveler? in the grand canyon pic, there are multitudes of strange anomalies popping up on film after the shot was taken and people swear there was no one else at that spot when the photo was taken.
Ati I know a lot of people didn't like Prometheus, I was referring to news outlets. It would be interesting to see whether Alien Covenant get as many nominations from Sci-fi and technical Awards as "Prometheus" did. According to imdb Prometheus got 47 nominations, including an Oscar nomination for best special effects. So far, AC was only nominated for its trailer.
Well. I am kinda surprised AC was on that screenjunkies list, specially with so many bad movies hitting theaters this year
Prometheus indeed spanked AC at the box office- no arguments there. I also did not see Prometheus on any top ten lists either. Here is the rub- it changes nothing for me- I still like AC way more than Ptometheus. Both movies have plenty of faults though.
'As divisive as "Prometheus" was, I don't think it ended up on anybody's "worst film" of the year list.'
Without doubt, he is an exception:
I don't understand. Looper's The Worst of 2017 list does not include Alien Covenant. Tragedy!
Are you talking about this quote from RS? "There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] ALIEN. It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant...fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way...."
As divisive as "Prometheus" was, I don't think it ended up on anybody's "worst film" of the year list.
Haters will hate. It will not likely be different for the next movie.
I don't like these videos, they don't seem honest...
cuponator3000 - You mention very important and reasonable things!
'The Shaw/Walter pairing sounds like a lot of fun'
Yes! And the three Alien prequels would follow an exciting pattern: Prometheus - Shaw and David, Alien Covenant - David and Walter, Alien Covenant 2 - Walter, Shaw and David
'to form a motley crue of David's enemies'
Imagine the situation in which David's enemies fight together against him - Shaw, Walter, the Engineers, the Covenant colonists, and the crew of a new Weyland-Yutani ship versus David. Holy s...!
It would be the first Alien movie which grows around a previous one. Without doubt, it would be a new and surprising approach. It would be similar to the show How to Get Away with Murder in which flashback scenes reveal past events altering the picture... totally. Then we get the new...
Okay, thanks Timmy the ultramorph! Ati, I like that idea! The Shaw/Walter pairing sounds like a lot of fun after what we have seen from Prometheus and Covenant! Them trying to get off of the planet (even if for a few minutes) could an awesome scene if written well. Them comibing with some Engineers to form a motley crue of David's enemies could also be really cinematically rich in the context of these Alien prequels.
I don't remember the sourse. am trying to find it right now.
What great work!
The artist did a great job, but I think it goes without saying this will never happen on the big screen.
BigDave - Those images, some awesome spaceships in some brilliant war scenes, good story, good actors and the perfect Alien movie is ready. :)
BigDave - My pleasure, I'm happy you like them.
It hasn't killed, of course. This franchise can't be killed.
It's a strange opinion but I do think that AC had to be made. It will cause the rebirth of the AU.
That would be a great surprise, but how do we reach Origae-6 in a this kind of movie?
The contradiction can be killed this way:
The reason behind this can be that Shaw is not dead. So the story starts with David and Shaw on the Engineer ship, we see the real events of the crossing, not only David's tale. They arrive, David kills the Engineers, etc, BUT Shaw escapes or hides somewhere... Then in a minute we see the events of AC, the Covenant ship arrives, we know what happens, then the lifter leaves Planet 4, etc... We jump back to Planet 4, Shaw appears, or somebody wakes her up - that would explain the title if it will be the title... And Shaw (with Walter or with the Engineers) flies to Origae-6 as well taking part in a clash of more parties.
It would be a fast and good movie in my opinion.
Interesting question.
I like(d) Prometheus because it revisits (more or less) my favourite type of sci-fi movies. I need spaceships, bases on planets far away from earth, space suits (not only in space), robots (I prefer real robots though), alien creatures, strange sci-fi environment, etc.
Superhero movies are not sc-fi movies - for me.
So I was happy to (wait for and) see Prometheus because it is close to my dream sci-fi movie, however, I expected more from it. I would have liked to see more scenes with creatures, more action, more creative surprises - for example, it would have been awesome to see the events after the end of the movie. I mean there are too many boring scenes in Prometheus and these parts should have been omitted and extra scenes should have been added at the end - a clash with the Deacon, or the appearance of a new vehicle, etc.
I like Alien Covenant much better (ost, neo, etc), but that is true that Shaw's character shouldn't have been moved out of focus - Shaw must return, I think.
The problem is that there are no good space sci-fi movies nowadays. And this 'nowadays' can mean a very long period, more than a decade. The new Star Wars is a great disappointment for me. I like Rogue One, but The Force Awakens is terrible, the worst in the SW saga in my opinion.
We need a very good space sci-fi, we need a very good Alien Covenant sequel with a brilliant story and awesome visuals. I hope Ridley Scott will give it to us.
Do you have a link to any of the interviews? Now, this isn't the first time that we have heard the next movie being a prequel to Covenant. Back sometime shortly after Prometheus was released I believe it was Chris who posted a big ol' explanation as to how/why we were going to get some out of order sequels to the 2012 film.
So yeah, that was popular for a while and then it really kicked up again when Ridley Scott and Katherine Waterston were being interviewed at one point for Covenant. Scott started to say something such as, "Well we went in with Prometheus, then it's Awakening, then here with Covenant-," before Waterston cut him off saying, "You're saying too much!"
I would love to see what Scott and the team can do with that period of the franchise for sure. I do agree with you that it doesn't seem as feasible anymore to go with the Shaw and David story because we know the important moments. If they were working on that, I would show up the theater so damn hard. Holy moly. We know how that story ends and some of the important points in the timeline, but damn it would be Prometheus 2!!
In regards as to whether the Xenomorph would be involved? If they went with the Shaw and David story, I don't see how the Xeno could be a good, organic part of that story. Only through flashbacks or mentions in the dialogue. I am guessing that Shaw and David's Paradise adventures would not be the plot for a Covenant prequel, so I am guessing that the Xenomorph will have a role in the next film either way. Probably smaller than Covenant for sure.
Hmm well, I don't totally know. I mean, I LOVE Prometheus and Covenant (I love all the films), but definitely Covenant was a knee-jerk reaction to a few of the complaints from Prometheus. So, I do agree that Covenant was an attempt to house a Promethean story in an Alien film.
Link your sources pls. I am extremely confused.
Oh... I don't know how to describe the feeling... I wasn't prepared enough for this experience... lol... Is there a dentist next to him? (Just kiddin'...) That white goo is scary as well, no doubt. Is it a new type of the facehugger? No embryo, just white goo? Jesus... :/
If we compare a xenomorph spicies to an ant hive( witch i dont really like doing because it simplifies them down to something that we can understand) the queen can get inpregnated by any fertile male. if we assume the drones are infertile then there should be a whole nothere group of xenomorphs thats main cause is to breed with the queen. for me that group is the preatorian gaurd.
seen in some comics and video games, the preatorian gaurds are male xenomorphs that are larger smarter faster and stronger than any other xenomorph but less than the queen. the are more intelligent then than average xenomorph. i think ths would be what is inpregnating the queen.
yeah. it really dosn't make sense. the majority of people who liked covenant were people who were ok with prometheous or moderately liked prometheous but wanted more xenomorphs and gore. I loved prometheous and accepted covenant as an entry to the franchise. other people liked prometheous but hated covenant for not following the philisophical themes. other casuall veiwers didn't like covenant because they thought the cgi was bad or that the charectors were weak. I probably did not help you at all but its a very interesting thought.
alien covenant did not ruin the franchise. fox clearly thinks so becuse latest news says that there will be atleast 3 more directed by ridley scott.
No...If Alien3 didn't kill this franchise then nothing will.
A L I E N killed the franchise really....creature died at the end....Ripley gets rescued(?) and back to a desk job. The END. I didn't walk out of the theater thinking: Can't wait to see the sequel!!
Aliens also killed it.......Queen dead...LV426 NUKED! Ripley and Hicks get hitched, adopt Newt...Series over.
Alien3.....Creature really dead(burned up...no more babies/dna..no more egg/facehugger...Michael Bishop knows this..) Ripley/Hicks/Newt dead.....THE END.
Prometheus gave us/me much hope.
Alien:Covenant: I really don't have a clue what David or the Engineers will do!? I want to see what happens next! Even more than Prometheus! This has never happened in the franchise ...a cliffhangar.
It did not ruin the franchise but it might as well signal the end of commercial viability for now.
Let's see if it surpassed the 44 mil of Prometheus. Let's see.
