Maybe it's an Evo-morphic suit that adapts to the environment and changes for what ever the wearer needs to survive

Great eye you've got there..I totally missed that...perhaps we're looking at two legs on this journey....

If some the rumors about the crew finding something on earth then going off into space to another planet are true, then the two different suits could be easily explained, one for earth missions, one for space.

Kind of what I was thinking @Engineer Prototype - Model GAJ84, but I can't quite get past needing the suit ON earth...you know?

True, but if you were going into an unknown enviroment wouldnt you want some kind of protection? Earth & space missions is the only explaination I can come up with apart form bad continuity. Then again I could be completely wrong and we might only see one suit in the film. Maybe the differences could have just come about in production and they stuck with them?

I really enjoyed Alien & Aliens was even better & then when the extended edition of Aliens came out that was an improvement on the original. I so looked forward to Alens 3 but it was such a disappointment. I just hope Promethius isn't.Not just for my sake but mostly for that of my teenage sons who are fans of the genre like myself.

When I mentioned two legs, I also considered two destinations in deep space. Also, a critical, detailed viewing of 'Alien' shows more than one style of suit on the Nostromo and Narcissus, respectively. i.e....the scene when Rilpey, Parker and Brett are using the tracker and find Jonesy in the locker, there are suits in the background of that storage area that look very different than the ones worn by Dallas, Kane, Lambert and Ripley. And when Ripley goes looking for Jones at the end, there's a shot in which you can see suits in the clear cabinets that she pulls the carrying case out of. They look a bit different as well. My point being...there's no reason they can't have more than one kind of suit and we're just seeing shots of different, separate, successive trips off their ship to investigate the "Establishment", as Ridley calls it.

Alien...Possibility of 'rank' for the different suits. Different colours may indicate the difference between grunt worker and mission commander or 2IC and the fact they were a mining transport. At the mining job site it may have been required that the commander or team leader wore a different style suit. Just a thought. As for Prometheus....surely it must be different environments. One for a anti contamination suit...the other built for differerent worlds or atmosphere.

The fact that only space scenes are CGI seems to indicate that there are no "big alien" as some people has thought. But I find this difficult to reconcile with very tall SJ walking all around the place. If this is true, it must be a remarkable use of old-age trickery.

CBT1979Prometheus ForumWhy Jonesy is spared?
My theories on why jonsey the cat was spared: 1. Aliens only kill beings that might be Used as food (brain tissue), biomass to create a new egg or posing a threat. 2. Aliens only capture certain beings that are suited to become a host. Maybe an alien born through a cat or a mouse is lame for the sliens. 3. Aliens were designed by the SJs to hunt Down only humanoid beings. 4. Jonsey said to the alien: dont mess with me or my kitten crew will kick ur ass so badly And teabag u 24/7.

You say Earthlings would easily defeat Xeno's, yet in AVP we saw that the Predator race got overrun on Earth by them thousands of years ago. . . Yeah the alien in Alien does seem really intelligent, more so than any of the rest other then the AR ones but they don't count as they were genetically created. I think that we'll see advanced creatures in this movie that we've not been hinted at yet. . .

JC, As ArchEtech beautifully put it, the only reason the USA had trouble in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan is that these were not total wars. And I think that going after the xeno´s would be total war. Again, breed stock don´t seems to be a problem to the xenos _ it seems they go hibernate when there isn´t something alive in the block. Think about that: by the current standards, the kind of marine action we saw in "Aliens" is already unthinkable. In 20 years it will be risible. Still, I agree that xenos would be a formidable weapon for total war, specially if you smart invading civilization go deploy it in an unprotected and unknowing world. For example, if xenos started to appear in droves at beaches, than in our fields, and finally in our cities, infestating not only humans but animals, I think we would really be in bad shape. The problem here is the same that the problem with nuclear, chemical and biological warfare: you can win the war but have nothing left to cheers about. So why the invading smart aliens would risk a Pirro´s victory?

alteredstate: It will open in Europe on May 30th, just after the Cannes film fest which ends on the 27th. It will probably open at Olympia (in Cannes). I would also bet that it will be one of the last screenings at the fest. I saw one of the Star Wars movies at the fest a few years ago and a few days later at a cinema in Cannes on opening night.... the theater was, no lie, half empty. Oh well. Anyway, will try to see it at the fest and at a theater in France before comming back to Chicago.

@ImMrSage My OP has nothing to do with whatever you were rambling on about!!!!??? I only stated the possible reason for the trailer rating, during superbowl!!! I'm really looking forward to Prometheus and am not hung up on the rating. No!!! I've got no time for Gorenography, Saw,Hostel.. etc Yaaawn!! Don't get me wrong I'm just as baffled by people saying they won't watch the movie if it's PG13..... @ cinefan Alas I'm not too young to remember the "wardrobe malfunction" watched it live with the rest of the world. did think at the time that it was a bit "naughty" but the media storm afterwards was a bit OTT,...we have a saying in the UK "only in America" how can a country like U.S.A.,which has World renowned places like "Hooters"....(other bars are available),get traumatised by a flash of boob!!!

@wheresbasky...the rating is critical..doesn't matter how you try and justify it, something horrible has happened to movies...the sole reason for the PG rating would be money, at the expense of artistic freedom..if you support this idea, you are another cog in the disgusting capitalist money machine, enabling it is as bad as supporting it capitalism in general brings out to worst in everything, as it foregoes quality for profit at any cost, at any means necessary...it also created unnecessary levels of competition between people causing isolation and breakdowns of community and neighbourliness... you are very wrong my kind sir...the rating is VERY important David Fincher is now my top director as he directed a $95 million dollar R rated film...he fights for us

Before we judge a book by it's cover, we should see the film first. You can get away with a lot in a PG-13 rating these days. I think focusing and debating on this is nonsense. A lot can change before the film comes out. We have a little under 6 months and there can be many changes done between now and then. Being temperamental about the rating is foolish, especially at this point when the film has yet to be seen by anyone here. Patience young grasshopper, patience. Wax on, Wax off....

We all want a trail and thats cool...maybe today, maybe not. but to sit here and demand things, well we know that is not gonna work. We might get lucky and see the trailer tonight during the Super Bowl. i guess people are more demanding now, I am guilty of it but this how films are ruined and the mystery and taken out of it. Photos of the movies are posted everywhere these days, aka Dark Knight. I think keeping Prometheus in the shadows is smart and heck, I want to be surprised in the theater....I am all for the mystery and surprise. It's all good man....it's all good!

It obviously works or else they wouldn't have found Jonesy.....It seems to me, (based on Ash's response to Ripley, the apparent malfunctions that both Ripley and Lambert experience, and Ash's expression as Dallas' death seems iminent with Lambert screaming over the comms), It's designed to function properly, but Ash, with a feel for machines, he himself being one, that he works in bugs meant to intentionally cause problems as they search......It would have to work somewhat or else he would bring too much attention to himself.

I don't think it's implied that Ash knew much of anything about the alien life-cycle before he was exposed to it, first-hand. He clearly thought the facehugger was still functional after it had fallen off of Kane, evidenced by his behavior during the search of the medical bay. He was also clearly shocked by what happened to Kane, evidenced by the fact he was concerned with relative trivialities like shoving a spoon in Kane's mouth so he wouldn't bite his tongue ( some kind of seizure ) when his chest was actually about to explode.

yeah I guess you are right, he didn't know much..but then how come the company are so excited 'crew expendable'...maybe they would like to know what type of extra terrestrial life it is before having the whole crew killed...could have been amoeba... Also changes in air density would be a terrible way to key on a xenomorph, what about all the steam etc from pipes....then again it is a movie lol

RSANDPrometheus ForumMicro..changes..in air density
When something moves in an atmosphere, it compresses the air (in the direction of its movement). The air pressure behind it is proportionally decreased (i.e., a vacuum is created). The air density is a function of the object's velocity. The Alien moved at near human speed hence the term "micro changes in air density." With a supersonic aircraft, you get sonic booms.

I think the motion sensor is legit (or generally accepted as so - given its use in Aliens) but Ash knows far more than he lets on (i.e. given the weapons they have available, short of blowing up the ship, they have little chance of killing it with or without a motion sensor). I don't even think the motion sensor stops working. My interpretation is that Lambert assumes it's stopped working as the Xenomorph is able to avoid detection (by remaining impossibly still). Ash strongly advises Dallas against attempting to remove the facehugger (with "if it's feeding him oxygen, you might want to consider the possible effect of removing it" and the like), but ultimately he has to follow Dallas' orders or risk giving himself up. All of his actions are a fine balance between protecting the Xeno and keeping up the pretence - and there's only Ripley that picks up on it. Furthermore, with (I think) Ridley Scott having informed that Prometheus will contain the "DNA" of Alien but none of the sequels, I feel the crux of the issue regarding the link between Alien and Prometheus will be Ash (and the Company)'s knowledge of what happened on the Prometheus mission. It's possible that said knowledge doesn't extend to how the Xeno was going to birth from Kane. I also feel Ash only gives Ripley (and company) a glimpse into his insight when he's found out (because although he does sympathize with their situation, it's still his mission to protect it). I find what he reveals at this point very cryptic and can't help but draw more relevance to the bit about the Xeno having adapted quickly to the (Nostromo) environment - possibly the reason why the progenitor (if there is to be one in Prometheus) will look different to the previously established image.

I like the fact of it standing up going against the grain of most people's thought that it would fly/rest horizontally. The human concept of aerodynamics is destroyed by the 'alien' concept. We're all guessing about that trailer pic - why is it stood up? It may also 'wheel' when in transit (isn't that in the trailer too or am I mistaken?) Or it could fly 'standing up' as seen in the still - rather like a flying '0' now that would be bizarre. That's what defines 'alien' for me - 'alien' should mean just that - it should defy outrageously all accepted human paradigms.

When walking into this movie, we have to leave all our preconceived notions out the door. Like Zeta stated, their, the Aliens method and science all be far beyond our ways. I kinda of see the ship like a huge centrifuge...spinning at an insane speed.

This film is also a homage to Kubrick's 2001. Perhaps the vertical ship is Scott's tribute to the iconic vertical Monolith. The ship(s) could possess similar powers.

If USAF B-2 Spirit were to fly a mission in 1930s, it would have been mistaken as an alien craft. Mass hysteria. Look at this magnificently engineered supership: where is the jet engine?

I disagree. If you think little more, space is essentially a 2D when moving much less than the speed of light. Why? Because if you move 50 meters left from one spot, the change is horizon/view should be close to unnoticeable. Other thing is that most objects seen in space (stars in this case) are effectively like pixels. Asteroids should look good though. I firmly believe that we shall see extremely nice looking spacecraft + SJ pseudo-derelict-ship animations in 3D. Plus the Action itself should look spectacular under the loving direction of Sir Scott
