SYH,
I think Terraforming had been around for a long while prior to Aliens. The Company Terraforming LV-426 was a cover to use to find the Derelict that the Nostromo found. What bothers me is what happened to the signal between the movies.
1.Why did the Derelict suddenly stop sending the signal or did it?
2. During Aliens I think the company was at Hadley's hope the entire time monitoring the marine-xeno interaction. At the very least sent a team prior to the marines showing up there. I don't think the xeno's cut the power I think the company did, prior to the Xeno assault. Does anyone have any info on this from the script or excerpts?
Cameron never did show any exploration of the derelict which I so wanted to see. You got to see a crack in the side with convoluted platic drainage tubing with wires in. A real classic there and thats it. Also how did Newt's dad get face hugged but not her mom, really?
Ok, Time to get back on subject.
Rick

@artyoh: if you are perhaps referring to the somewhat ordered looking structure
that is directly beneath that craft as it passes over the falls, it appears to be part
of the waterfalls rocks
i took that screen cap above from the HD trailer, and it does look like it's part of the falls

Sparky, Listen man. It was not meant as an attack or an insult. I was just highlighting the fact that in the past few days you have become obsessed with the belief that you have 100% nailed down exactly what will and won't happen in Prometheus, all I'm trying to do is be a friend and open your mind to other possibilities.
I guarantee the majority of members here are like me and you, in that they are avid watchers of two and three disc special edition features. Thus they, as I and should you know that nothing is 100% certain to be in a movie, be it a scene, a theme or an idea, until the final cut has been made in the editing room.
I know the ideas you rally behind so religiously have been mentioned, as have others, but for anyone to ascertain that 6 months before release date they have the film 100% sussed is... well its impossible.
I think I said this to you a while back when you and BM had a disagreement, so I'll say it again - relax, its just a forum, its just words, try not to take everything so to heart. And to add to that, open your mind and relax your position, please.
Remember, Prides comes before a fall.
P.S. Thanks for everyones comments, I think? lol.

I'll be honest here. I think Spart has a lot to offer in conversation but his behavior here would have gotten him banned/barred from most other forums. Not saying I agree with that but I think he needs a break. It is tiresome to see post after post of him stating his facts in argumentation and then somebody plainly proves their side and then have him act like it was either what he was saying all along....or be all apologetic about it when he should have just left well enough alone. This a forum about a movie, not politics or religion emotions shouldn't be that high. The man has stated he is 51 years old but his behavior here says otherwise.
So kudos Snork for being the second person to call him out on this.

1. To be honest i don't really care...but probably a great empire...!....the creators of live and the universe as we know it!
2. I hope her character plays a pivotal role...she is the bad girl, so by the third act she either exposes herself as a spy for the jockeys/engineers or she just turns completely nuts...becomes a psychotic bitch from hell...or she does something nice for a change and becomes a sidekick for Shaw...2 ladies destined to save the day!
3. We as a species will learn not to fuck with our creators!
ReplyNineteenHundredPrometheus ForumPrometheus 3rd POLLJan 4, 2012
1) A great Empire.
2) She's famous and she seems to have had more time than other actors to promote the movie with Damon Lindelof .
3) Humans.

I think the order of the scenes in the trailer are out of sequence. Could it be that Janek and Vickers are the only two onboard Magellan when the Derelik approaches the temple. I get the impression Janek is about to ram their vesel into something. He's probably told Vickers to get the hell off the ship before impact. That's one reason she might be getting her ass in that escape pod. Oddly enough is it possible that the Pilot, ( if we don't want to call them SJ's any more) and his species have died out in the millions of years since leaving the message for their creations on Earth? As for the enlarged humanoid in the charting room, are we sure this is a member of the same species? If they were planetary engineers surely we weren't the only product of their handiwork. Perhaps we aren't the only kids in the play ground so to speak? Just attempting to justify the Captain ejecting from the ship alone, and figure out who or what the big blue bald guy is. I don't have an issue with his appearance being very much like our own, after all once you find a design you like you tweak it, worked fine for us all this time.

Scott's interview with SpeakEasy suggests the film leans more towards the Titans than other perceptions of God.
Creation would be implied in both cases but according to Greek mythology, Prometheus loved (and was largely responsible for) mankind. Not so much humanity, nor women (Zeus' idea of a curse). I wonder if that will tie in with the film somehow? After all, Alien was all about male pregnancy...
Though I do think Klaatu's excerpt from the book of Genesis can be interpreted in the same way that Prometheus allowed man to stand upright ("as the Gods did"). But doesn't that also suggest the name "Prometheus" has more to do with the giant head in the film like it's portrayed on the teaser poster? I know we're all just speculating and having fun but I see the term "Prometheus crew" being peddled around everywhere now and accepted as fact as though the film was named after a human vessel or vice versa.
Did I miss an interview somewhere?
@Ghost Solitare:
Vickers' motives are the most interesting! My best guess is the alien ship is trying to get off the planet because it collides in the sky rather than in space (where they could of actually stopped it, if it had intentions to land). But why is Vickers the only one scrambling to get to the escape pod? Why would she want to stop the other ship? To prevent an evil reaching Earth? Or maybe to stop something valuable from ever leaving the company's grasps...

It could be a coinsidence, it could be a clever clue. I picked up on the David thing ages ago but never thought about the possiblity of Elizabeth being a droid yet. Could Elizabeth really be a droid? or something more important like a new pilot for a derelict?
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumAndroids, order alphabeticallyJan 4, 2012
Well the alphabetical order really came into play in Alien Rez, a kinda tease for the fans to see if they could figure out Call was a synthetic before the reveal.
Regards the possibility of a second synthetic in Prometheus, when asked how many there are in Prometheus Ridley said "One. Maybe two?".
Regards Bishop II, If he was human wouldn't the credits have listed the characters name as Michael Bishop (where the name Michael come from?) instead of Bishop II. With the character being called Bishop II and the lack of agony he experienced when his ear was all but ripped off confirms to me that he was just another synthetic.
ReplyEngineer Prototype - Model GAJ84Prometheus ForumAndroids, order alphabeticallyJan 4, 2012
Im pretty Sure his full name is Charles Bishop Weyland. And yes, Bishop 2 was a sythetic, That version of Bishop was more based on the sythetics from Blade Runner if I remember correctly.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumAndroids, order alphabeticallyJan 4, 2012
LOL engineer, I love confusion...
Charles Bishop Weyland - Founder and CEO of Weyland Industries.
Bishop (Hyperdyne Systems Model 341-B - Executive Officer, USS Sulaco
Bishop II - Second Bishop synthetic, end of Alien 3
But some attest that Bishop II was human and was called Michael Bishop, why I don't know?

Engineer - Charles Bishop Weyland as Snork has said was the aparent founder of the company and his actual 'character' was present in AVP 1. That's where you would have got that name from buddy. If it was to be good 'ol Chuck in Alien 3 he'd have be a few hundred or so years old by the time the event's in Alien 3 transpired, considering AVP 1 was set in more current years and Alien 3 was set way off in the future - I'm sure somebody will hop on and remind us what the year was. Not to mention he should also have been looking fairly rough seen as how the poor chap actually dies in AVP 1.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumAndroids, order alphabeticallyJan 4, 2012
AVP - 2004
Alien 3 - 2179 +
But Charles Bishop Weyland died in 2004, at the hands of Scar the Predator.
Reply 1234567890Prometheus ForumAndroids, order alphabeticallyJan 4, 2012
Bishop was most definitely an android in Alien 3. It is in the script and in the novelization including the graphic novel....and if that weren't enough....the whole ear kind of dangling, without any apparent pain, gives it away.
But this is beside the point....the AVP films are not part of the Alien universe, At all......they are popcorn mash-up films. The equivalent of "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein".
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumAndroids, order alphabeticallyJan 4, 2012
I agree with your point about Alien 3, like I stated in an earlier post in this thread.
AVP, on the other hand I accept as canon until they are officially shown to be otherwise. But that is my personal preference, each to their own and all.
ReplyMicro changes in air densityPrometheus ForumAndroids, order alphabeticallyJan 4, 2012
The alphabet thing I don't find very relevant. If Shaw is a synthetic - boy they must have messed with her wires judging by the trailer.
What I do find interesting and worth speculating on is the comment by Scott on a possible second synthetic. The second android could be a kind of first generation and more mechanical android closer to a robot. Possibly a repair or maintenance robot which might be portrayed in CGI hence no character listing.

I've been wondering this too Bio, as I've still yet to find this 'Magellan Mess Deck' door too. You don't think that cap might say, "Weyland Megacorp" do you? (I know, I think that would be a bit daft too - but it would 'fit').
ReplyHerk MondoPrometheus ForumHow do you spell Magellan?Jan 4, 2012
Could the patch on the cap also being saying "...FINO/...FIND MEGA/H/R"?
Maybe it's even part of something in latin, like a Latin slogan/moto on the bottom of an organsation's or instituation's logo. I Have to be honest though in that I know as much Latin as my cat does lol.

yes in a recent review of the trailer one guy said there was written magellan ( on janek hat ) but ive never checked myself ... so we are again in deep sea .... i hope the ship is called "Snoopy"
btw "Magellan mess deck" can be simply an honour name of the mess deck hall . I think that many warships have some important rooms named after famous or decorated people .
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumHow do you spell Magellan?Jan 4, 2012
I dont think it is called Weyland Megacorp, because of this...

ReplyHerk MondoPrometheus ForumHow do you spell Magellan?Jan 4, 2012
Snork' - twas only a daft idea, I only typed it aloud as I've heard a few times Weyland being referred to as a 'megacorp' which is in actually only a slang term. But if the hat was to say this - who's to say the hat wasn't a random company promotional item? For example I work for a large international consultancy and over the years we've had many a different slogan etc printed onto various promotional items. I still too myself think it's very doubtful though. I've also suggested that, it may not even be 'WEY' infront of the 'LAND' we can see and again, is it even "...LAND"? as I'm thinking that 'A' there may even be an 'F' - hard to tell for certain as it doess look to be a 'broken' letter - but this maybe just down to the embroidery lol. Maybe it's even a cap from a previous mission or ship Janek served on lol.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumHow do you spell Magellan?Jan 4, 2012
Well IMO we have LAND then we have MEGA... The embroidery on the second A is almost identical to that of the first A, which suggests an automatic embroidery machine (there is a characteristic relief on the right side of both of the A's - Before you ask my mother was a wonder at these things).
The letter after the second A however is a mystery, I could be a C, L, U, Q, E, O, D, G or B because of the typography that has been used. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I wouldn't be in total shock if that was the case.
1) We know they find something on earth that leads them to believe that we were created/engineered by a being. Could this be the giant head? Maybe they do carbon dating and find the head is millions of year old (throwing out arbitrary time long ago), which predates homo erectus. This leads to the above conclusion.
2) We also know they find a location/destination to travel. Do they decipher the glyphs on the giant head which tells the coordinates?
An even odder notion.
Could the discovery on earth actually be a buried long lost derelict type ship? They go into the ship, and find the urns/head. While still investigating the earth derelict, they start prepping the Prometheus to travel to the destination coordinates. They then find the pilot room and activate the star map. This causes the ship to come to life and lift off on an automated route home.
The prometheus is launched and follows the derelict. In this scenario we might have a case where people are trapped on the derelict during the flight, or maybe they were able to get out of the ship (once they figured out it was going to launch). They then got on board the Prometheus and followed.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumAmpule room.Jan 4, 2012
The only images in which they are without helmets are the one with HAlloway injuried and a couple of shoots made for a news magazine ( so they can be actually not realated to real movie scenes ) .. i think that in all the others they wear helmets...
on earth there will be really no need of helmets ...
so we can presume that MAYBE they discover , thanks to some incidents , that the air INSIDE the temple is somewhat breathable ... or maybe we will discover that they are on earth in a temple with unbreathable air :p
ReplyJeffomorphPrometheus ForumAmpule room.Jan 4, 2012
It would not be a total shock to me if that were the case. In fact, it wouldn't be a total shock to me if the whole first act takes place on earth and here is why.
What are we pretty confident that we know?
1) We make a discovery that leads us to believe that we were created or Engineered by some type of being. Maybe it's the giant head and Space jockey suite/corpse that leads us to this belief. They carbon date the items in the room and discover they are millions or a billion years old. I'm just tossing out an arbitrary time long ago that predates Australopithecus or some ancient ancestor.
2) We also think that some discovery on earth leads us to another location/destination. Do the researchers decipher the runes on the giant head and discover a set of coordinates?
Or.. an even stranger notion that I've been contemplating.
What if the discovery on earth is actually a long lost derelict style ship that has been buried for aeons. They excavate the ship and explore it on the ground. They remove some urns, etc and find the star map/pilot room with coordinates, and they start prepping the Prometheus to check it out.
At some point someone messes around with something and the ship comes to life. It's preprogrammed to return home. We could have a scenarios where either some people get trapped on the ship durind it's flight and have bad things happen along the way. Or, they could figure out that the ship is going to launch and get out before it does.
The ship launches and the Prometheus gives chase.
ReplyMicro changes in air densityPrometheus ForumAmpule room.Jan 4, 2012
Some good stuff there Jeff.
The problem I have with the earth theory is all crews gear looks designed for space and they are not archaeologists.
ReplyJeffomorphPrometheus ForumAmpule room.Jan 4, 2012
Could the suits be biological or haz mat type protection gear? I'm not saying it is, but just a thought. There are some scenes where the suits look bigger/bulkier than the suits in the ampule room. Or chould the ship potentially have an alternate atmosphere that eventually gets vented as they explore the ship?
