Oh, I don't think that push-ups are a daily routine for her. I think the decription in the interview was a joke about doing push-ups. Probably from doing that scene, going up and down to hide. It looks like she is in a place that she does not want to be.

Thank you so much to all of you for your comments! Certainly there are many inconsistencies and omissions on this hypothetical plot and you pointed out some. I also had a new wonderful idea about what happens to Shaw mid-way through the movie, which is not consistent with some of the ideas I presented. Since it's a completely different idea, I'll present it on a separate post. Cheers to all!

Heh, "2001" is a BS sci-fi creation myth, it's just told extremely well. If "Prometheus" is ( in part ) the Ridley Scott "Alien" universe creation story, ( as both he and the "official" synopsis have suggested,) then we can expect it to be a very dark mythology, indeed.

True, one tends to forget that 2001 (my favourite movie of all time BTW) is a BS creation myth based movie, since it is so well made. Arthur C. Clark, of course is a scientist and adding the fantastic aspect to a movie does not take any entertainment away from it.

I'm with you on "2001" Macs. In 1968, when I was ten years old and saw it in the theater, it was a visual, cerebral, tour de force, hard sci-fi mind-f--k which directly resulted in my life-long love of good....and yeah, sometimes not so good, science fiction. I was already a space buff, and naively assumed that we'd be roughly where Clarke and Kubrick implied we should be, by 2001. Instead, and unfortunately, human exploration is back to being science fiction.

Still sounds like "You don't understand" and it makes perfect sense. think about it. Why would she tell somebody You don't have to stop and then go "we were wrong, I was so wrong"
also, i hear Prometheus. like it is a sign on or off.
This is what I hear. After listening through headphones and the slowed down version.
"You don't understand"
"Is it coming in?"
"Prometh....Prometheus" (jumbled in delay)
"I was wrong"
"It was so wrong"
"I'm so sorry"
Sorry to keep disagreeing.
ReplyRuthPrometheus ForumYou don't have to stop!Dec 30, 2011
Well, I was listening to that dialogue several times too and it sounded to me pretty much like that:
-You won't/don't understand
-It's coming, it's coming
-Prometh..
-I was wrong
-We were so wrong
-I am so sorry.
I'm not sure whether it makes sense, but it surely doesn't sound like "you don't have to stop"/etc.
ReplyMentosPrometheus ForumYou don't have to stop!Dec 30, 2011
I think it is:

Ghost solitaire :
Ripley was floating out there for 57 years.
Regarding the teaser dialog, you really have to ask why these specific lines are used at all?
"I'm so sorry"- major regret
"I was wrong/we were so wrong"- portends for boding of an assumption. Repace said something about her character being a "believer", my guess is that is the context of what she is wrong about.
"you don't understand"- a plea or frustration about something deadly serious. I can see this argument with Vickers, but I'm guessing. Could be with another scientist,David 4.0, or one of the mercs aboard trying to run roughshod over the civies.
Ones thing is certain, Sir Ridley is going to hit us in the gut. This movie is going to be serious as sin.
Greetings to all btw.

The idea of a last message sent to earh is very plausible ..however there is another message we know very well ...so the movie end with everyone sending messages ? hum dont know i fear that it would create some confusion ..but of course can be a shaw message "translated " by the SJs technology .
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumYou don't have to stop!Dec 30, 2011
I think that transmission occurs long before the film ends Frantz, Just a guess, But I would say it's out of sequence in the trailer and you can pretty well bank on it.
ReplyHybridPrometheus ForumThe Prometheus will ruin the mysteries in Alien?Dec 30, 2011
Still surprises me to see hate for Aliens. People like to take cheap shots at it but never offer up solutions as to what they would have done for the second film. Aliens was the perfect response to the events in Alien. Exactly what we would do even today...send in grunts armed to the teeth.

Alien's my favourite. Aliens is ok, Alien 3 is ok, after that I ignore.
ReplyEnderPrometheus ForumThe Prometheus will ruin the mysteries in Alien?Dec 30, 2011
Hybrid I dont get the Aliens haters either, just because Alien is a masterpiece it doesnt mean you have to constantly berate the sequel. Its like calling your wifes sister ugly just because she's your sister in law :-) For me, if Alien is about style, Aliens is about substance. The sheer amount of concepts the film introduces is enough to merit its standing.
Anyway.... will Prometheus ruin the mystery of Alien? Possibly. But if its never made we'll never know. I remember when Lord of The Rings was being produced, I was horrified of what would be done to some of my favorite books. I felt that the books being translated to film would leave no more room for imagination or long periods of thought regarding the content of the book. Turns out Jackson did alright and I enjoyed the films, never reads the books since though!
ReplyStarbeastPrometheus ForumThe Prometheus will ruin the mysteries in Alien?Dec 30, 2011
The way I look at it is that if Prometheus is any good then I will acknowledge it as canon, if it turns out to be a piece of crap, I will simply deny it as being anything to do with Alien.
I mean, we're already doing it: some of us accept as gospel the entire Alien/Predator universe and their interleaving; others are happy to go as far as the "Quadrilogy"; some of us accept the first three only; while there are some who only consider Alien as a standalone film and universe.
So the beauty is we can pick and just, and most times we will not be in a minority. You need only take a look at the Star Wars franchise; there are some fans who literally deny the three prequel films out-of-hand. And that's OK!

So in the frame entitled "Red Light Shot" what is it exactly, "Bio" or some one else, that you guys figured out that the Laser scan is doing...?...reading the composition of what it scans...?...like on Spock's "Tri-corder" in star trek...?...

ReplyStarbeastPrometheus ForumEmpire Magazine's Mother Of All Prometheus Trailer Breakdowns!Dec 30, 2011
The red light quite possibly is measuring the composition of the surface materials.
My hunch is it is perhaps composing a three-dimensional rendition of that section, as part of a larger mapping of the entire tunnel network.
It reminds me of the blue light scanner from the initial scene from Aliens.

Since no other film is canon except Alien now, it can be anyone. I know Scott doesn't think much of any of the other films, that's not to say he doesn't like at least some of the ideas presented in them.

Yeah, that picture has been around since before the trailer. It was in the original EW photo releases back in November I think.
Some people think it's a decapitated corpse, and some people think it's the SJ biomechanical suit. I think it's a suit. And yes, two members of Prometheus are examining the head/helmet in the picture. I also assume this is the same head/helmet we see in the trialer on the scanning table.

The only official SJ pictures we have are the head/helmet on the scanner table, the corpse/suit on the floor in the urn room, and of course Mr big blue and biomechanical in the SJ control room.

ReplyGhost SolitarePrometheus ForumStrange puzzle piecesDec 30, 2011
The Puzzle is the correllation between the signal relay time and the Nostromo's arrival there. The question is simple, were the events connected? None of the questions raised on this site are new. Fans of the Alien franchise have been asking the same things for decades. The only new bits of information are the additions to the time line, and the subsequent theories as to the purpose, outcome, and ultimate fate of that first expediton to Zeta Ret.
ReplyJeffomorphPrometheus ForumStrange puzzle piecesDec 30, 2011
For this to be true the events of the movie need to take place near Zeta Reticuli, which is where Archeron/LV-426 is located. At that point one would also have to assume that the SJ ship in Prometheus is the same one that was crashed on Archeron.
A lot of people believe that this is a different SJ ship on a different planet.
ReplydanraldPrometheus ForumStrange puzzle piecesDec 30, 2011
Regardless what planet the Derelict crashed on, the whole travel/time/relativity thing going on needs to be addressed. I heard in one of the movie discriptions, that faster than light speed is discovered. Or some sort of means to travel quickly. Anyway, even if the crew left Earth and traveled 30 years at near light speed, Earth would have aged a few hundred years. Plus the time for the transmission to come back to earth. So I'm guessing we will have to have some sort of mechanism that deals with this stuff..
