Paddy101.... in the scene in alien I spoke of, it is not Ripley firing the flamethrower this time. Somebody or something is firing it AT HER... Down a passageway. But after thinking about it, maybe it is just part of the early stages of the Nostromo's self destruct process. Or Lambert is part xeno or something trying to kill her. who knows. But I agree where Mr. Scott left some open ended ideas. Thanks!

Frantz, it's on the 2nd disc of the 9 disc quadrilogy box set.
I just watched it yesterday, go to the Main menu and set the thing to "PLAY ALL FEATURES" and you will eventually get to the part where Ridley Scott, Yaphet Koto, Sigourney, Harry Dean Stanton, and Veronica Cartwright are all discussing that scene.
Ridley says, "You do not see it in the film, but you hear it happening off screen in the audio"
He also says .."Whatever it is that you interpret it to be" {or something to that effect}, "if it isn't rape, that it was in fact all the same what they intended it to be anyways. there's alot going on off camera there"
But he makes it clear that this is a Grey Area and was deliberately left that way because they did want more money to do many more things with Alien but the suits at Fox wouldn't give it to him...also and don't forget this one...
He spent the better part of 16 months walking all around the set with a copy Gigers Necronomicon under his arm, the entire film was derived from one of Gigers sickest paintings.
As the story/Franchise progressed, and during the pre production work for Alien 3,
Giger developed a lot of artwork that was never used by Fox or the UK production company for that film, but Scott has inferred several times now that he may use some of these ideas in Prometheus including scenes of Erotisism between the Xenomorph and both male and female crew members.
I have been wrong before and am the first to admit whenever I am if possible, but here I think I have to say that while you guys may be right in that if you just look at Scott's film straight up, their is no weird sexually deviant behaviour I agree completely from either Humans or Xenomorphs, but I am telling you that this is what was intended, and is still an underlying theme behind everything Scott and Giger do together.

Not sure if the original Alien was a drone or not. (incapable of reproduction?) I had not perceived the Lambert killing as a rape, although in retrospect the awful sounds that were broadcast to Ripley from Lamberts open mic could easily be taken for that. My first take on that, as I sat in the theater as a teenager so long ago, was that the Alien was cruelly toying with her as a cat might with a mouse before dispatching it.

Ok, this is just an observation....
I just stated it and stopped it because of one of the first things spoken at the beginning of the piece which is this...
Veronica Cartwright's first sentence at the beginning of the first documentary is...
"I think he {Ridley Scott} took a lot of techniques from Alfred Hitchcock in the sense that you do not really see everything, the imagination is used, and I think that is what made it so terrifying".
To me that statement represents the spirit in which the entire film was made.
Maybe we did not see what we thought we were seeing but it was definitley left open ended on purpose for us all to imagine it like that or to allow the viewer we see it that way if he/she wishes.

I cherish your opinion Frantz and am most found of you, I am always Fine with agreeing to disagree.
And Just to be fair I will tell you what I am going to do right now.
I am going to put it all on my PS3 again and watch it yet again, and freeze it when it gets to the right part and I will quote word for word what they all say.
May take some time and patience but at least it will clear up if I am really reading too much into all this.
see ya soon.

Ok,
I figured out where I steered you guys wrong to start off.
It is not on Disc 2...It's Disc 1, the Special Edition of the film, with Commentary set to "ON".
Do that first.
Then fast forward to Chapter 32 @ approximately the 1 Hour, 28 Minute mark of the Film.
Ok, we have arrived at that scene and here is exactly word for word what is said and by whom.
Scott: "Veronica was always great at controlling barely controlled terror, catatonic terror, she's always, like, 2 steps away from a heart attack...which I think she finally does at the end have a heart attack".
and then later...
Scott: {Ripley moves "Jonesy" from one position it's cage to another} "I had people saying...That was a clue...and The Alien was now inside the cat"
then later
Cartwright: "Yaphet is the one that keeps telling me to move but I can't move because I am between him and the Alien...and here it comes, and this is the thing, he's like fascinating ina weird sort of wayLook at him he's like looking at me and he's like CHECKING ME OUT so I was going off on the fact that I would end up in a locker somehow, but OBVIOSULY HE IS DOING OTHER THINGS TO ME..."Bellogi" who played the Alien, he was just amazing, I mean he was this graphic artist that they found in a pub He was 7 feet tall and he was 7 feet tall and he was {can't make out the word-sounds like "Mass-eye"} so he had very long limbs...so that suit fit him, and he'd walk around in these white sneekers, and Tom was the one who said, this guys gotta sit down and built him a special swing. But you couldn't sit down once you had that tail on...
and now the kicker...
Cartwright: {At the very scene we speak of 1 Hour 31 minutes and 51 seconds into the piece...} As the Alien Limb slips down between her supposed legs in this shot...." Ya see, those are Harry Dean's legs...cause I wore white pants and cowboy boots...
then later...
Cartwright: "You see this death scene was never completed, what I was supposed to do was crawl away...and I am supposed to die, of fright, in the same locker that supposedly Jones had been in, but that was never shot and uh, I kept asking them, when are we going to finish the scene, I mean the next thing I knew they were on to something else"
Scott: I mean, we didn't know how she dies, but, The implication was that there was this sexuality to this androgenous Male/Female that could give birth itself but it could also impregnate so it;s like, they are insects like that so we based it on ya know, a little good old dose of Mother Nature and um was that some terrible ending some dreadful invasion of her body , some kind of RAPE, and therefore, would there be a version of the Cartwright character, or certainly that whatever happens, there would be more HUMANOID Aliens on this craft now. So you go into this unique drama, and it is difficult {to portray visually he means} ya know I just fell on Giger at this moment, who hadn't been seen that much and he had a follwoing however in Switzerland but he was just perfect {meaning for that scene} The right elemnts came tiogether at the right time"
Ok, so I am stopping here because I have realised that I was 100% correct.
Sorry !!!

Ok,
problem solved, permanently.
1st of all my first mistake was telling you this was all on the 2nd disc.
It is not.
It is all on the first disc.
You have to turn the commentary feature on for the Special edition of "Alien"
To reach the discussion in question you now need to fast forward to Chapter 31 at 1 hour and 28 minutes in.
Scott: "Veronica was always great at controlling barely controlled terror, catatonic terror, she's like always 2 steps away from a heart attack, which I think she finally does at the end have a heart attack".
and later...
Scott: "That is a clue, The cat meeeooooow as it's going inside {Ripley's little Cat Cage} is a clue and people were now convinced that the Alien was inside the cat"
and now at 1 Hour 30 Minutes and 23 seconds into the piece...
We arrive at our very scene in question
Cartwright: "Yaphet is the one who keeps telling me to move but I can't really move when I am between him and the Alien...and here it comes...see...now...this is the thing...he4's like very fascinating in a weird sort of way...look at him, he;s like looking at me...he's like...CHECKING ME OUT... I was going off with the fact that I would end up in a locker somehow, BUT OBVIOUSLY HE IS DOING OTHER THINGS TO ME...Belagi who played the Alien, He was just amazing, I mean he was this graphic artist that they found in a pub and he was 7 feet tall and he was {sounds like "Mass-eye"} so he had very long limbs, and actually that suit fit him, and he would walk around in these white sneakers and Tom was the one that said this poor fella needs to sit down, they built him a special swing, but you couldn't sit down once you had that tail on"
and a bit later...
Cartwright: "Ya see, that's Harry Dean's Legs, cause I wore white pants and cowboy boots through the whole thing,"..."you see, this death scene, it was never completed, originally what I was supposed to do was crawl away and I basically die of fright in what supposedly the same locker Jonsey had been in, but that was never shot and I kept asking when we were going to finish that scene...I mean the next thing I knew they were on to something else.
and then here is the best part...@ the 1 hour 32 minute 53 second mark...
Scott: "I mean, we didn't know how she dies, but the implication was that there was this kind of sexuality to this endrogenous male/female creature that could give birth itself, but whom could also impregnate...so it;s like uh, there are insects like that so we based that all on you know, a little bit of good ol' Mother Nature. Was that some dreadfull ending, some terrible invasion of her body, a Rape?, and therefore certainly whatever happens from then on there would be more Human Like Aliens on board this craft". You go into these areas that are unique, and it;s difficult {He means to film these "Grey Areas"}
I am going to stop right here because I think My Point has been made and proven at this point
Sorry !!!
But I am right about this !!!
Check it out and see, commentary "ON", Disc 1, Quadriliogy Box Set
Starts right around 1 Hour 28 Minutes into it.
The only mistake I made was I told you it was on the Special Features disc, but this particular thing I was discussing comes from the 1st disc with the film commentary "ON".

Spartacus i think that nothing prove your point ...the only part is a "rape ??" that is not obviousely intented in a sexual way ( and is from a commentary of 25 years later in which probably even scott have to find something to say of new BECAUSE there is not in my bookset for example)... of everything you did write NOTHING can make someone belive there was an actual rape ... if you want to see things to prove you are right is ok ....if that makes you happy ...
Read better that parts you did wrote ... where is that rape ?
ITs like to say that when a dentist check your teeths he rape you ...pfff .
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumLambert answered?Dec 6, 2011
oh please, go listen to it, scott says outright the implication was sexual.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumLambert answered?Dec 6, 2011
I did not say there WAS an actual rape I said this is what they intended for you to think, and I am right, go listen. Scott clearly, clearly states the implication is SEXUAL and Cartwright says herself the Alien..."IS OBVIOUSLY DOING OTHER THINGS TO ME".
What more do you need?
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumLambert answered?Dec 6, 2011
This statement completely proved my point.
Scott: "I mean, we didn't know how she dies, but the implication was that there was this kind of sexuality to this endrogenous male/female creature that could give birth itself, but whom could also impregnate...so it's like uh, there are insects like that so we based that all on you know, a little bit of good ol' Mother Nature. I don't know where the rape theory came from - I assumed it ate her brains a la Parker :s
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumLambert answered?Dec 6, 2011
ok I can answer that for you
Go watch the scene again, then go watch it with the commentary on at the 1 Hour 30 minute mark and in Ridley Scott's Own Voice we hear the explanation, that there was 100% a sexual implication, and on top of that, in Cartwrights own voice we hear her cleary state, "the creature is obviously doing other things to me".
Quite frankly after all the work I had to do to post this for you guys this morning I am amazed that anyone would read all that and yet STILL DENY the sexual implications in that scene, and then do it yet again, after hearing Cartwright say the exact same thing, and then do it yet again after hearing Ridley Scott himself clearly state that this was what was intended for you to think...
ReplyThadus 12Prometheus ForumLambert answered?Dec 6, 2011
Yeah I totally believe its Raping/Impregnating her,Ialso believe this will be confirmed in Prometheus. Another interesting point.... In the Directors cut we see the Alien examining Jones' kitty box, when Riply drops it and runs away to safety. The Alien then takes a swipe at the box and knocks it flying, this suggests to me the Alien considered Jones to be a meaningless commodity i.e. the Alien couldnt use him for impregnation/coccooning. The alien was driven from the start to go after the crew...viable commodities?
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumLambert answered?Dec 6, 2011
I agree, and there was also a mistake in the filming of that scene,
At first when Ripley looks at the cage it is facing one way, she looks away then looks back and it's facing another way now.
I've heard Scott himself mention this as well.
ReplyThadus 12Prometheus ForumLambert answered?Dec 6, 2011
Yeah in the original cut we dont see the box get hit by the Alien and its facing the wrong way when she gets back to it, but the directors cut clears this up as we see the Alien swipe the box.
Another cutting mistake was when Brett gets lifted up into the landing gear, Ripley and parker say they watched him get pulled up but you dont see the shot. The directors cut also clears this up. My god who edited this film? And to leave out the Alien transmission scene where we all actually hear the creepy transmission.....Sacriledge!

spartacus ...arguing and making a discussion is one thing ..but arriving at the point to insist with 193438 post to prove your point become annoyng ..expecially when your opinion is based on one "rape ?? " that have clearly all other means ... with that attitude you can see sexual meanings in everything ..and maybe if you tell me your age i will tell you why .
All the things you extracted from the commentaries ( one on 10439 commentaries made on the movie ) prove the exact contrary of your theories .
You are not doing a great service to a great movie with all that petulance .
ReplyGame_Over_ManPrometheus ForumLambert answered?Dec 6, 2011
Fair enough, if that was said in the commentaries...if you were a casual viewer I don't think you would have got that impression of rape though. Was there anything earlier in the film to suggest the beast had a sex drive? Only the face hugger perhaps...but that's the face hugger - a separate entity, not the actual alien. Perhaps the tail rising between it's legs as it approaches Lambert?
Lol, amazing this film still attracts controversial discussion 30+ years later

also, First thing Frantz did was insult me and tell me He must have a different disc than me...
I took it and said nothing about it.
and Then after I proved he was wrong, and corrected not just that, but showed him exactly on that disc where it is that Ridley Scott HIMSELF mentions the very sexual implications of the EXACT SCENE IN QUESTION I am talking about and he still wants to insist there is no sexual over tone to that scene????????
Fine deny yourself till your dead, but Scott still said this...
and he clearly says it EXACTLY WHERE I SAID HE SAYS IT ON THE DVD ITSELF
Ridley Scott: "I mean, we didn't know how she dies, but the implication was that there was this kind of sexuality to this endrogenous male/female creature that could give birth itself, but whom could also impregnate...so it's like uh, there are insects like that so we based that all on you know, a little bit of good ol' Mother Nature. and THIS...
Cartwright: "Yaphet is the one who keeps telling me to move but I can't really move when I am between him and the Alien...and here it comes...see...now...this is the thing...he's like very fascinating in a weird sort of way...look at him, he's like looking at me...he's like...CHECKING ME OUT... Petulance;
By Definition = the condition or quality of being irritable, peevish, or impatient.
and IMO whenever someone is wrong and knows they are wrong, they become irritable...
It is not I that is displaying Petulance Frantz but rather yourself.
I was patient, extremely patient with you and went to considerable effort out of respect for you to prove what I was telling you, that it was not something I was making up as you were suggesting, but now I have no patience left at all for any of this discussion.
I rather liked you too before all these things you said to me today.
I stuck to the facts, this is not personal, I thought you were interested in the truth but after you heard it from Ridley Scott himself and still denied it I guess it was because...
"The Truth Hurts"
and the "petulance" in all of this , is your own.

Game Over
Thank you
It is nice to see you are a fair and honest person.
I cannot understand why Frantz got upset but I guess like I said it was because I actually proved what I was saying and the truth hurts sometimes.
It was certainly not my intention for hims to be upset.
I really have no intention or desire for anyone to be wrong, but when anyone tries to tell me there are no sexual over tones and inuendo in that scene in particular I cannot except it because there clearly and 100% are just that.

Just to get back on track with this thread and why we are registered here. I am an engineer
and I have to say given the vast amount of physical andscientic based evidence on the origins of mankind blows all theory's of the ancient astronaut theories out of the water. We humans are just not satified with our lot and the fact we evolved from apes. Look at the inteligence of say dolphins and elephants compared to other similar size and type animals. They are way ahead of most. Remember the world and civilisation has reinvented itself on may occasions due to monumentous natural disasters over the ages. Some leading scientists believe within 100 years mankind will be reduced to several million survivors. Personnally I dont buy this. There is absolutly no concrete evidence of extraterestirals being on this planet. Where are they now? Why do they always seem to be in the past? What I love about sci-fi is its sci-fi and nothing elese. Something to dream about and enables us to get away from reality. Bring it on I love it all.

You said you are an engineer, What kind of engineer are you? Civil, Mechanical, Systems, Quality, Operating, Electrical, etc. Every Engineer I know differentiates what kind of engineer they are, sort of a pride in what they do. They don't just run out and say hey I'm an engineer and I don't buy into the whole ancient astronaut theory without having some kind of a background. How else should we give any credence to what you said in your post? I'm not picking a fight, I'm just pointing out the obvious and would like some background.

Rick didnt think it mattered so much. Just a belief in mankind based on sound engineering and scentific principles of how we got here today and how we will survive come what may. You dont have to be an engineer/scientist to subscribe to these facts. Simply watch any of the history of the earth documentarties or read books written by engineers and scientics.
For what it's worth I am a chartered structural engineer since 1990 and run my own business. I was 15 when Alien appear on the big screen. What facinates me about this whole Alien thing is it's concept. I think it's based on sound principles because I do believe given the size of the universe, statistically there must be more life forms out there. Whether they have every come to earth and interfered with our history is hard to believe given no evidence.

I read this amazing novel by Stephen King called "Insomnia".
It really is one of his best books, and I should know as I think I have read and own a copy of all of them so far.
Anyways, this story's main character is suffering from a serious bout with Insomnia, and as it progresses he begins to have recurring hallucinations and in all of them he can see the "Aura" of every person he looks at, not only that, but depending on what type of person it is he is looking at, the Aura's manifest themselves as Balloon Strings hovering above their heads in different colors for different people, an Evil person for instance would have a dark Black Balloon string "Aura".
It's just a novel I know, but I find the idea of it all fascinating as well.

OK
In a nutshell,
The bad guy tries to kill everyone involved with the local abortion clinic by piloting and aiming a plane into a school where they will be having a rally for a female politician who supports their cause, and will be speaking at on that day.

oh yes....yeah I remember now...thanks!....bottom line and returning to the subject...,,,the plot of Prometheus is bound to spark some controversy.... mind u it's not like we living in the dark ages...so hopefully people are more tolerant to new ideas...we'll see?

@juxtapose
the man that hit on you, in my opinion, is correct.
we all have an aura, soul, spirit within us, whatever one may call it. theorists propose that the brain isn't the center of our thoughts per se, but rather, more of a radio tuner for our conscious.
people that undergo psychedelics have a feeling of knowing everything. Almost god-like feeling. These same users report seeing wave-like patterns, as well as the alien entities i mentioned earlier in the thread.
Michael Talbot's 'The Holographic Universe' goes further and states that what we see with our eyes is only a portion of what 'reality' is. That in fact, we are really just wave forms, like the ripple effect when dropping a pebble in a pond.

@ droideggs....gosh that is a lot to take in....but my mind is very open....so yes I have no problem with the theory of having a spacejock guardian watching and guiding me...lol....sure i am not alone....but my own little illusions of grandeur set aside...i am sure we all play some kinda role in this universe...who and what created us....fuck knows?...what is out purpose....and what if their is fuckall purpose and no higher being and we just die and rot and everything is purely scientific.......eeeeeek!....now their is a scary thought!
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumPrometheus & The Ancient Astronaut TheoryDec 6, 2011
in a nutshell...maybe life is all their is and we just trying to cling to some sort of believe...when we die...maybe we just fucking die...period....nothing!

"Again, I riffed," Spaihts says, "and in about an hour had spat out what remains the spine of the story of 'Prometheus,' " which Fox is scheduled to release next June.
Well that's very interesting since Spaihts wrote 'Alien Harvest'.

lmao
so variety magazine lied to the world and the guy they interviewed and who said this is not jon Spaihts.
I look forward to seeing that Law suite and the Buzz around it...lmao....
Dude, Harvest is exactly what he pitched to them.
They Kept Most of the ideas in that script as well from what I understand and Lindelof and Scott added some new additions and changed it around somewhat as well.
