ali81 I concur, Lambert was smart and Cartwright was brilliant. I also agree that she wouldn't have been effective as Ripley and glad she was casted as such.

suppose its just a matter of opinion. Cartwright did a brilliant job yes but lambert wasn't a coward, she was just wanting the f**k out of there. she had issues with ripley. I felt her fear through out the film

I like it Sherris! This is the kin dof thing that can make the novel comin gout reeaally interesting! It would really cement David an evil mastermind with very few individuals in the universe able to match him!

ali81 Lambert's fear is more acting than character building and I get what you mean with the subtleties that are there but they're unspoken, like in Covenant. We don't need to hear about the kids back home to relate but the way the characters are portrayed. Like Rosenthal and Ankor's relationship that isn't stated but you can find it through the little screen time they had together or after the wheatfield attack she lamented on his demise. I related with Oram's conflict, Ledward wanting to break off from science mumbo jumbo for a cig break, Oram and Karine's relationship.

theres no need for the queen to ruin anything. there seems to be a misconception ridley is against a queen but he has never stated this. he likes aliens and what JC did. he may, he may not introduce a queen in some form and I think both have a place in the xeno life cycle.

The fact that you are so invested in newt and hicks and then they get killed is one of my favorite things about alien 3.

Eggmorphing is better

I dont think Ridley will allow a queen.Queen can be used for other things too.In advent its hard to understand David -

Wolf,Lamb,Queen,"If you do this, there will be no turning back"

Having a queen ruines the horror of the xenomorph. And even worse - Hive...

Its best to be the Perfect Organism

I heard something about that lv 426 was a testing ground for the black goo and that is why it is like that.

would also make it a more dangerous species. u have to get every last one of them or the whole horror will start again

I like the eggmorphing a lot more but i think they can both exist. the queen lays the eggs but when an alien is sepperated from the hive they can eggmorph victoms so their life still helps the species. this would help the xenomorphs expand there territory sinse the queen has some trouble moving around.

Why do we need to pick one or the other? Both are two ways the eggs are made and both are part of the film cannon now.

@ninXeno - Also worth noting back in 1986 when Aliens originally released, egg morphing was practically unknown to the world.

Maybe not to the masses, but the egg morphing scene was actually quite well known to Alien fans even back in 1979. It was mentioned in the film magazines, the making of Alien book, the comic book, et cetera.

I thought the first alien film gave a lot to character building. I felt lamberts fear, I saw how dallas just wanted to do his job n get home, I got the bond between parker and brett. I wouldn't say I wept when any of them perished but I would say I could relate to the scenes on the screen more than I could with covenant.

lol hhhmmm topic I aint touching with a barge pole but anyway lol

yea if the ships r organic theyl need a pretty high factor aswell. or maybe they were originally the same colour as the engineers thousands of years ago lol

@Hox

Watch the movie again. Ripley was senior officer while Dallas was off ship, and she specifically refused to let Dallas, Kane, and Lambert inside. Dallas could request to be let inside all he wanted, but he never broke any quarantine. He did not and could not open the inner airlock door.

It was ASH who broke the quarantine by opening the door. Did you forget that there is even a scene where Ripley confronted him about this?

What if they're already waiting for David in Origae 6, and it happens to be a space Greco-Roman colony like Paradise, but bigger and it looks just like some big ol Greek or Roman city and the Elders are waiting with Walter in their tear drop ship hovering above space Athens

Ridley.

ali81 I'd say the lack of character building stays true to Alien79. There was hardly any character development in the original and Scott even said that was the point. We don't need to know about Kane to be horrified for him when he gets chestbursted.

I do imagine this is the intended impression RS has lead us to believe and I don't have any issue with it. but to me its very similar to the walter/ david swap scenario to me. too many details r left open to scrutiny but still very plausible in the world of futuristic sci fi.

for me personally, im still 50/50 on whether david had a hand in the blast that hit the covenant. having an insider working for the company would definitely be a harrowing twist but I don't see them working with david. they may have been instructed to retrieve a specimen at all costs though, going back to the crew expendable angle of alien.

I would say that david contacting the company at the end, all be it posing as walter, does add weight to david and the company having some form of deal going. if there wasn't, surely david wouldn't have wanted to contact anyone and be left alone to experiment in peace but contacting the company would risk them sending others. contacting them as walter would hide his identity to any unwanted listeners but the message would still reach the required people that the crew was dead and he was headed for origae 6.

this is what I still love about the alien universe, the theorising. it could be any number of things at play here

They must coat their entire ships in factor 24234234 suntan lotion. Maybe they're a race of Michael Jacksons. All secretly black dudes, but whited up their skin in the 90s cuz Jackson did it. Or maybe Michael Jackson was an engineer. Another reason why they want to kill us, for accusing him of fiddling with little boys. All possible.

hhhmmm interesting question. an engineer with a sense of humour drawing a representation of a male reproductive organ on the back of a sunbathing neomorph lol

would depend I would imagine on the make up of their skin over the course of millions of years. ud think their skin would naturally would burn with the radiation of the sun but may just take a lot more to have a tanning affect on them than it does for humans

Reply

Would engineers sunbathe? Would it burn their epic white skin? Are there black engineers? Could neomorphs also get sunburnt? Would some nice engineer chase after all the neomorphs with some factor 50 suntan lotion and rub them all up..to keep the masterplan in action? New topics, new thinking.

Stupidity is part of the human condition, sadly.

The Xeno is far superior to us, fictionally speaking.

I wish some Xenos would head over to Charlottesville and annihilate those white supremacist fucktards!

StarloggerAlien: Covenant ForumWhat to do about bad press (blame Google)

@Lawrence @Timmy well said folks!

@Mr H I don't see where the "bad" is as justified as you say it is. NO ONE is saying this movie was "perfect"---heck NO MOVIE is perfect, but EVERY opinion is subjective. I GUARANTEE that Ridley and the staff felt this was as "perfect" as they could make given what they had to work with. So, with that in mind i feel the overt "antihype" to be totally unjustified, as do most sane people.

@Lawrence the one that got me was the chestburster scene. That was just not good, sorry. They filmed it with practical effects, but ended up having to convert to CGI because it didn't work. The DARK scenes with the xeno/proto were much better, but not at all as good as they should've/could've been.

I didn't believe the CGI was bad. I thought it looked quite good tbh lol There were a couple scenes like the Xeno climbing down the ladder where the CGI faultered but it looked amazingly beautiful when it counted.

I also appreciate Cameron giving Ridley praise as he could have easily caved in to the trend and threw shade. His review was spot on but I loved how Ridley handled the ending, it was so dark and you don't get a lot of films nowadays where the villain wins and is the main character. It's a refreshing change and Ridley knocked it out of the park.

I can have adult, civilized conversations based on logic and evidence. You bring neither logic nor evidence to the table, but good ideas none the less. If you think like an engineer, rather than a human and you will see that they would have different ideas and solutions to us humans, with our short term goals, and short life spans.

Fassbender is a perfect cast for David. Agree he really nails the character and I just couldn't think of any other actor who can portray as good as him. He is genius.

I think lamber, though not my fave chacter, deserves a wee mention. I thought Cartwright did an amazing job of projecting fear onto the screen. couldn't imagine her as ripley so I think they made the right choice in casting her as lambert instead of ripley

All very good points, and as IRaptus said, the Proto/Xeno itself, as well as the HORRID "chestburster" were just absolutely horribly rendered. There's no excuse to spend so much money on suits and blood and extra detail, and make the CGI look like a high school film project.

without these unfortunately silly decisions then most of these movies wouldnt happen. I don't remember them not listening to ripley with exception of Gorman who had obviously gone into shock at the time. even she didn't know what the hive was when they encountered it and when she suggested they nuke the sight no one disagreed.
