I am starting to come around to the shaw cloning idea. it would fit davids character and would explain the grave. david would never harm shaw. yet by experimenting on clones he has the genetic female components he requires without harming the real shaw. he wouldn't see anything wrong in this as this is not shaw.

a clone would also explain why there is a grave, which I would expect of david after the death of shaw, and what appears to be shaw lying dissected on davids table.

All the yes to this post. Glad I'm not the only one to make these connections :D Very excellent analysis my friend. Covenant doesn't get the love it deserves, sadly. Such a beautiful artistic film that was a worthy sequel to Prometheus.

Interesting. If there was already a Juggernaut inside that landing bay, why were the bay doors opening when David arrived in his Juggernaut?

"David's lab and how he got to the egg is just too far fetched with those primitive tools and lack of meat to add to his experiments."

The eggs in David's egg room were the result of his breeding program. David says in the novel that the original egg-with-face-hugger that is in his lab already existed.

Wow, somehow reading this has made me love Covenant even more. I loved the part about Byron and Shelley. I had no idea that Byron was a critic of automation.

But, when you think about it, David admired a lot of people erroneously. Despite how much he hated humanity, everyone he admired was human.

Also, I love the idea of Shaw as a modern day Prometheus. Very well written analysis. Love it.

Some folks on Reddit have deciphered the text on several of David's illustrations! It's really fascinating!

True. I spent a lot of time hiding in that game. After ten minutes, it feels safe to leave- then you hear the alien- back into hiding for another ten minutes. You will spend a lot of time looking at the alien's feet.

Thanks! Lol, maybe we can be androids in our next lives. But, they're going to have to staff each ship with two types of androids:

Ones that do the "alone" work while everyone's in hypersleep and ones that hang out with the crew once they wake up.

Lol, I'm not sure that's exactly what I said. I'm sure I'd be a little whiny my self in Daniels' situation. But yes, Tennessee would be an interesting protagonist!

Don't worry, I'm sure I will enjoy the video game even if I hear spoilers! I'd like to play it some time.

Oh my gosh, yes! Waking up to that would be completely horrifying.

Capt Torgo Why would Walter fill the Juggernaut with eggs? All the ships have been disabled as soon as David let loose the black pathogen 10 years prior, unfortunately. That's why David has been marooned there. That, and the force field around the planet (remember the storms?). So I think Walter's only chance is with the returning Engineers and hopefully they won't rip his head off lol David made the eggs through hybridzing with local insects, motes, random Neomorphs, and Shaw's eggs. He's had 10 years to tinker. Plus, none of that stuff really required complicated technology as all he had to do was experiment with the pathogen and see how it reacts and why.

@Lawrence of Arabia

Oh gosh dammit, why are we anxiety-disorder-afflicted so drawn to scary movies? If you have an anxiety disorder, you need to find someone like my husband - someone who is the opposite of a person with an anxiety disorder: methodical, calm and contemplative in all situations. He's an engineer (like...in the field of engineering. Not a giant bald pale guy). - you may need to find a similar person of science who has a very orderly mind. Whatever you do DON'T find another anxious person. You will each lend credence to eachother's fears and put eachother through hell.

Anyway, remember the scene where the lander is burning up and Daniels pins Oram to the ground so he won't run into the flames, and we see Ferris' silhouette in the doorway as she burns up?

I bet Oram probably thought that was Karine burning up. He had no idea she was eaten by the neomorph in the medbay, and when he saw the silhouette he undoubtedly assumed the worst.

Ridley Scott seems to really like scenes of people's romantic partners burning up in front of them. It was even like that with Shaw and Holloway. Maybe that is a fear of his.

Capt TorgoAlien: Covenant ForumAlien: Awakening (The claustrophobic film)

Sounds great but unless Scott is attached to a simplified rock solid script that focuses on intelligent human interaction we'll get more disappointment. He just doesn't seem to collaborate with his peers as he likely feels it's his toys and his sandbox so they will just do as the great one says. If people think he can brink back the great dialogue of Alien then I have a bridge to sell you. Wish I was wrong but the characters have gone from questionable in Prometheus to space chimp stupid in Covenant. Would love to be proven wrong by RS in a follow-up by I won't be supporting it at the box office. He just too focused on symbolism and not the elements that made Alien great.

The extended engineer graveyard scene is great and wish it could have made to fit in the final release. It shows a parked Juggernaut that likely Walter will use to escape and help the colonists fight back against rogue Android David. He then fills it with the eggs and because he is semi organic he's hugged and busted thus resulting in the classic bio-mech big chap. Would have at least given me something to ponder. David's lab and how he got to the egg is just too far fetched with those primitive tools and lack of meat to add to his experiments. Hopefully there will be more intriguing stuff we don't currently know of. Unfortunately we likely will never get a director's cut but maybe a fan on youtube will cut a version I can enjoy.

just think resurrection and the abducted slumbering crew, waking up just in time to see the eggs open and they don't have a god damned clue where they r, how they got there or whats happening. but every fiber in their body is telling them ''oh man I am F****D''

don't want to ruin it if its something ud play but ripley is trying to lure the xeno into a section of the ship that can be detached from the main vessel and someone is helping her. needless to say the other person blows the compartment away with ripley still in it

yes for it to be truly horrifying the buggers have to be out of their siesta and fully aware of whats about to happen lol

@VivisectedEngineer I also saw myself in Oram because I have an anxiety disorder and I'm constantly doubting myself. Karine was such a loving partner and I long for a relationship like that lol When she died, I could see the look of utter despair on Oram's face. He was very unlucky in this film.

There's a nice contrast between him and Kane. Kane was well liked and when he passed it was around loved ones and a bright room. Oram on the other hand wasn't much liked and died alone in darkness with everything he knew ripped away from him.

@VivisectedEngineer

Thank you for the recommendation, I'll check it out :)

I don't mind superficial loneliness such as Walter/David's job, hell I enjoy alone time and I really can't stand being around others too long as they just drive me bonkers but it's knowing you're alone that scares me. Like, losing all your loved ones and not having a friend in the world or knowing nobody else feels the way you do. I'm quite the introvert and needs time alone to simply recharge/get my thoughts in order or enjoy a hobby but I like being around friends and family.

I haven't played Isolation, is there indeed a scene like that!? Lol, yes, I would feel pretty bad if I sacrificed myself in space then saw the xeno make it's way back in to attack my crew!

"mind u I don't think the person would be aware so is that as scary?"

You are right! That's a very good point! Ok, we need some fully conscious unsuspecting crew members...hmm...

I kinda wanted to see something along the lines of what u said to be in AC. we got the proto-neo face off and the crew make it on board the lander, thinking theyv left the 2 aliens battling it out and have shut the door, but the proto makes short work of the neo and as the lander takes off, we get a wide angle view of its tail disappearing up the landing gear

@Vivisected I knew I liked you for some reason (i.e., your talk about enjoying "aloneness") because I could definitely do the same sort of "lonesome" (to some) tasks over long periods of time.

Reply
ali81Alien: Covenant ForumAlien: Awakening (The claustrophobic film)

hell how would that make u feel. last thing u see is the xenos tail disappearing through the air lock and u know the fate in store for the sleeping crew. u wouldn't feel so bad if it done in a similar way to isolation where someone else blows u out into space with the alien to save their own skin lol then they deserve their fate but the poor crew.

I cant remember the script but its one of the un used alien3 (I think) drafts where a salvage crew, again I may be wrong, boards the escape pod and hicks and newts fate is different. inside their cryo pods r eggs.... imagine the thought of the alien breaking just enough of the glass to extrude the enzymes that start the egg morphing process in their sleep. mind u I don't think the person would be aware so is that as scary?

@Lawrence I like Loup myself quite a bit! As with most of the characters, he was underdeveloped and underused (I wonder how Jussie Smollet feels about how he was used....), but he certainly had a good personality on screen that could've been something more.

There are around 12 extended scenes in home version. I hope RS would give us a 13th surprise scene that can answer a few questions or at least show some engineers.

I like it! Ok, here's another take, tell me what you think:

A character has lured a xeno out the airlock (either intentionally or inadvertently sacrificing himself in the process). For a moment, he thinks he's been successful and at least the rest of the crew is saved!

But, as he drifts away from the airlock, the last thing he sees is that the xeno has somehow made its way back into the ship.

He has no radio contact nor any way of warning the crew. Perhaps the unsuspecting crew is in hypersleep.

Also, maybe the lost-in-the-vacuum-of-space character can be a sympathetic android, who now has a very long time to live with the knowledge of his failure, and to be just floating around in the vacuum of space.

That's pretty agonizing too, yes?

Reply
ali81Alien: Covenant ForumAlien: Awakening (The claustrophobic film)

vivisected, or an end scene where the character in the space suit is drifting away out the air lock, cant do anything to stop themselves, spinning, slowly yet out of control. on a rotation they can still see the air lock clearly, something in the opening. an alien. as the character spins their last vision is of the alien propelling itself out the air lock, right for them. poor bugger has the knowledge of knowing every time they spin and face the ship, the alien will be that little bit closer. nowhere to go, nothing they can do. the slow agonising wait for the inevitable

@IRaptus

Eggmorphing and hive/curator! Yes!! That sounds like nightmare fuel! We really need some scenes with people trapped in the hive with that creepy-a** spider xeno slinking about.

ALSO! We need one scene were a well-developed character gets irrecoverably jettisoned into the vacuum of space. Probably in a botched attempt to lure the xeno out an airlock.

Like, they'll be in a spacesuit, so they'll still be alive for a while. And maybe they'll still have radio contact with the ship for a while. But, there'll be no way of saving them. That's pretty scary, yeah? We need something like that.

@MU/TH/UR 9000

Oooh wow! I love your ideas about the development of David and Vickers sort of sibling rivalry. I hadn't considered that David may have acted as her caretaker when she was younger.

That seems very plausible as Weyland doesn't strike me as a very involved parent, lol. I love the "Tea ma'am?" line possibly being a reference to childhood tea parties. That makes it so much more subtly antagonistic than it seems on the surface, which is very David.

OK! I will mull this over and if I manage to come up with a story, I will let you know!! :D

@Thoughts_Dreams

Lol, I don't know why but your hatred of Shaw really made me laugh. Ok, I'm glad someone was able to benefit from her demise then. At least we can both agree that Daniels is a good character whom we hope to see again, maybe she'll get some more character development in the next movie.

@ali81

It wouldn't bother me to see Tennessee survive instead of Daniels. He's not really the sort of character you'd expect to see in that role. It'd be really interesting.
