Lawrence of Arabia cuponator3000 They can do a spinoff if there is enough demand for David, but in spite of him being a great actor, Fassbender needs to be pushed into the background for the franchise to survive.
The Sfx were quite good quality, the scene where the aliens were picking off soldiers in the rain was nightmare-fuel. They weren't just Cameron-kamakazis, they were sneaking around, being ALIENS. :) It gave a neat little glimpse into the Yutani aspect of the universe.
I used to work for a company that conducted surveys over the phone. I remember we would ask people things like "Would you like Johnny Depp as the lead in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"? Or would you like Nicolas Cage for National Treasure?" This time they will do the same. In the early 2000's those were big names. Taking on account the type of people we used to call, if I were to ask them now "Would you like Michael Fassbender as the lead in an Alien movie", they would reply "Who is that? Fassbender cannot carry the franchise, that is obvious.
Seeing how the Xenomorph evolved from the Xenovirus, and gestates as a parasitic embryo, it really has no known terrestrial analog. It has the characteristics of a virus, an organism, and an animal, an amalgamation of sorts. The Xenomorph is therefor an appendage of a being that would be a combination of the Hive Intelligence David explains that originates in the motes, and the virus/accelerant. Therefore, it would be considered most closely and unprofessionally a 'placental virus organism' or 'superorganism' when functioning in its latter, "hive" state. It also, via the xenovirus, is shown to be mutable, either naturally or preemptive-induction via third party (Engineers/David).
That chick that pwned by the predator disk was pretty brutal!
Nice observation Nathan Adler
there is hopefully more to the hammerpedes than their brief cameo in Prometheus!!!
I don't know, if the next movie was to take David from the main stage, it would just contribute once more to the inconsistency of this franchise. I not only want them to stick with David as the main character, but I think they need to. Otherwise, it will be like Shaw and the Engineers treamtnet in A:C.
And about the actualy topic, I assume that the film will come a little later in 2019 or Spring 2020. The official announcement may come this fall. I suppose after the DVD release date makes some sense
That or the colonists themselves... Egg Cocooning Scene
They bomb that horrible town and the characters in it.
joylitt Interesting observation. After watching RS interviews and trying to look at it in a big picture way, I wonder if it is being written into a corner somehow. I think if Awakening does not directly link to Alien, the franchise will get diluted. There could be room for the Engineer aspect to go in its own direction as Facehuggers! has suggested with a couple short stories.
Love this! This part caught my eye in particular,
"From the egg sacks came these parasites. Airborne, and gifted with a very primitive, but dutiful hive intelligence."
So, really and truly, once the xenovirus (I always liked that term ADF used) hits a point of sufficient biomass - when it has come into contact with enough DNA - it gains self-awareness, and can almost 'think' about what it wants to do. I wonder if David was merely acting on behalf of the xenovirus itself, perhaps it can affect artificial intelligence (since AI is more mechanical in the way it thinks, thus more easily effected by a hivemind). And, although it is 'non-canon', the Aliens comics are a veritable trove of inspiration for Alien fiction.
They better keep Fassbender on as the "New Ripley" of the prequel series. David is the most interesting character in the franchise by far. I'm down for a stronger lead opposing him but nobody is stronger than Fassbender atm. I thought Katherine as Daniels was pretty good but I don't think she'll survive into Awakening.
The effects are way better than those in Covenant.
20th Century Fox must be analyzing the data right now. I am sure they are not happy about having a big franchise deflated like this. I don't think they want to shut it down, but they will take measures. I don't think they will authorize another protagonic role for Fassbender; they will look for a stronger lead in a more classic showdown with the xenomorph. If The Predator does good, probably they will take note and they will incorporate some of that style into the new Alien movie.
Wolf the Predator is a badass.
Thanks for sharing- that is outstanding!
What part is confusing or inconsistent? I thought it was rather simple, but it should be complex. There are probably hundreds or thousands of varieties of the pathogen the Engineers created, each for a specific function.
The book was based on the screenplay, so I don't think Foster added much, if anything. The bulk of the dialogue is in the movie, but that entire egg scene was not. That was probably filmed though, because there is a photo of the prop in David's lab.

Jonesy - Falkor the Luck Dragon, a dog/dragon hybrid one would think.
Also, stylistically, Haku in Spritted Away looks like a dog/dragon hybrid, when he's not in boy form of course.
The pathogen is still difficult to understand.
You put a lot of effort and knowledge into that and it took a fair amount of thinking.
I stand by me feelings that there are still so many inconsistencies with the pathogen and the book just tried cover every possibility.
They should of had the rules set out before Prometheus and stuck to them. The handling of the Pathogen by the writers has been doomed as they all seem to see it as something different.
A set of rules on the Pathogen should of been put in pace.
It shouldnt take pages and pages to explain. No debate this is what it is and this is what it does.
I enjoyed your post Kethol but i still think the Pathogen is confusing.
oh yes The Never Ending Story, it was magical. I love the flying white puppy (forgot his name pardon me) , and I could never forgot the sinking horse scene, I still find it hard to watch that scene.
It was either ALIEN or THE CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THIRD KIND
I was fascinated by the door abduction scene, it was my first best movie memory ever
The Black Hole. They should do a remake of it. I liked it alot.
I kind of like it, most due to its atmosphere and creative concept. I actually recommend "Birth" by this director as well. It's not about alien but to those who likes dark, atmospheric thriller will enjoy this movie.
Well, here is Le Voyage dans la Lune (A Trip to the Moon). Less than 13 minutes long, apparently it's the first sci fi movie. Interesting as an historical piece but that's about all imo.
@Chris- Is there an estimated time frame for the interviews to arrive?
Bodacious find Ati.
Oh, 2019 isn't too far off! I just don't want to have to wait another FIVE years again!
Listed as being in Pre-production with a 2019 release. That's what it says, but an official statement remains to be seen. However, this is a good sign.
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial was most likely the first, followed by Wolfgang Petersen's Enemy Mine and The NeverEnding Story.
Then shortly after that, I remember seeing ALIEN and then Predator.
However, I keep The NeverEnding Story close to my heart, that film and E.T. quite literally defined my childhood.
Facehuggers! Very nice! Is this connected to the Family? I had to LOL at the possible naughtiness of paragraph 3- sorry, I am just wired that way!
Barf The Mog Locomotive Breath comes to mind!
Godzilla: King of the Monsters Those Godzilla movies were great on weekend morning/afternoons. Being so young, I tuned out the plot and only watched when Godzilla was on screen causing mayhem!
Facehuggers! Excellent!- Short, potent and to the point.
I would suggest leaving it as is and not expanding it further. Or it could work as a scene to a larger story- but please don't change it!
Oooh! Really great campfire question dk! It seems like my love affair with Sci-Fi has been life-long, but my very first Sci-Fi movie was probably "Flight of the Navigator", which came out the same year I was born.
One of my younger sisters and I used to reply to requests from our parents with "Compliance!", like Max. ...*cringe* We were dorks.
...I guess it was either Flight of the Navigator or possibly E.T.
My older sister had to be taken out of the theater at the part where E.T. is running through the woods making that "Eeehhh!" sound or whatever, because it really freaked her out, lol.

Interesting observations. I had not considered that but can see the similarities. You could be on to something.
Great story! And yes there were baby engineers
