No need to be that dismissive of other peoples ideas. When you say that

". . . these delusional ideas rooted in speculation and not facts."

Well, let's say that you were a human being living in the 1500's and you didn't know what caused human diseases so you believe that it was a punishment from God. Later in time they made research and came up with the germ theory. Let's say that someone had told people about the germ theory in the 1500's maybe that would have been looked at as being fiction at best. What I mean is that yesterdays science fiction can in a curious way become today's science facts. Just because you speculate doesn't mean that it has to be delusional. Delusional to me is when you have a thinking that is based on psychosis or paranoia. When people come up with scientific ideas based on what is now versus what could be based on some type of science, that is not delusional to me.

Disagree all you want but do it in a respectful way, that's my point.

The Film Theory Of EverythingAlien: Covenant ForumMAKE ALIEN GREAT AGAIN!

Hold On BlackAnt . . . I'm not going to attack You on this subject. It is an interesting paradox to analyse. I think part of the way out of it is to solve why Ash was weird in the first place... & I think that is because somehow, David in the third film of Prometheus/Covenant sequel is to say that maybe He was (or will be if & when the third sequel film gets made) facing His own "extinction"/disassembly. So, He somehow down- loaded His A.I. conciousness into a/the mainframe/system & like The Lawnmower Man got into every computer system of the Space Network (for The Company or not... who knows) & "infected it" with His own precence (Tron/Matrix, etc.)

Perhaps thats why Ash is so nuts because to disguise His identity David somehow left His own original "form"/body/ template & transfered His entire conciousness perhaps only into the one Ash that We see in Alien. Perhaps David has been lurking in there for years before He decided to act as He eventually does in Alien.

Because He, (David) would already be aware of the whole Prometheus/Covenant mission (at least His own involvement in it at the time - more on that in a moment) so maybe Ash - or, should-I-say: "David"/Ash... or "Ash"/David caused Himself to be put aboard the Nostromo by manipulating events to suit His overall goal, get aboard a non-descript ship with a non-dscript crew in a non-descript position in the galactic commerce of things so as to not attract to much attention to the situation.

Because when You think of Ash not as just Ash but Ash AS DAVID, David in another skin perhaps with both A.I. personalities warring with each other in there much-like the Anakin/Vader duality that has been at constant war with one-another, it could explain Ash's or "Ash's" erratic behavior at times during the course of Alien. Much-like Hal in 2001: A Space Odyssey, He inevitably gets trapped in an H-MOBIUS Loop, being compelled to obey His original programming by Human controllers/creators, yet being asked to violate said programming by those very same selfish, self-centred Human controllers/creators.

So "Ash" could be having His own experience of an H- MOBIUS Loop because of David infiltratiing & dare-I-say-it: corrupitng Ash's original internal programming, thus resulting in the devious & eventually, crazed behavior We inevitably get from Ash. Perhaps Davids A.I. corrupted the entire line of the Ash model thus resulting the reason why all: "the 82's always were a bit twitchy".

Maybe the Ash model We get in Alien is the last one in service & ALL of them working in tandem was Davids A.I. working THROUGH them to infultrate The Company slowly-but-surely to conspire & manipulate events to go in His favor. Maybe many of the Ash models were being intercepted & "found out" when unusual activity occured always when an Ash model was or had been present during any-given-time as the most common denominator.

He, David, wanted IN on the project & did everthing in His power (or possibly WILL DO everything within His power) to get "Himself" on there (the Nostromo) in some form or capacity. I think "Ash" (David as Ash) either made the ACTUAL Senior Science Officer extremely ill to eliminate them from the voyage & doctored the logs so that He as Ash would be bumped to the top of the list. Maybe He had the Chief Science Officer killed in someway to make it look like an accident so He: "Ash"/David would be considered in that way, as an emergency measure/ replacement at short notice or a last-minute choice.

Ultimately, I think "David"/Ash's or "Ash"/David's modus operandi is to take over for His own personal God-complex ends. Much as-in the original idea for Blade Runner, Tyrell - at the very end of the film - would have ended-up being a replicant & the ACTUAL Tyrell was lying in a coffin one level above His personal quarters... The top of the Pyramid, reaching the pinacle of the all-seeing eye We are introduced to at the very beginning, juxaposing the conclusion of the film.

I think David masquerading as Ash is using The Company to further his own ends for evitable conquest by subterfuge, cunning & guile. He fancies Himself as an Engineer, conducting "Creation" like a master symphony in an Opus to the Universe at-the-same-time, seeing Himself as a Divinci finalizing His Masterpiece.

One thing still remains to though... Where did Weyland come-by the so-called information that lead them to embark upon the Prometheus mission in the first place? David has extensive knowledge, it appears, to open the Engineers doors in the base on LV-223... Unless He has an ability to see in a spectrum that revealed the pattern the last time the door was opened - even if it was thousands of years ago.

Canadian weather--depends on where you live really. Frankly I have always liked how changeable and mercurial Alberta weather is, but depending on one's tastes, one can find pretty much any desired/comfortable climate range in Canada.

I re-read the post you made about the characters, and I absolutely agree with you that they are PERfect for the ALIEN universe!! I am greatly looking fwd to your Octonauts work! But, I will be patient, and tend my own realms while waiting. Love the accordian connection between the characters...

Also, fun note, the gun props for the laser pistols in ALIEN and the gun prop used in Star Wars ep4 where Kenobi takes off that guy's arm in the Cantina...same make and model of real-world gun. Finally looked that up--it's been rattling around in my head for years.

Sounds like the work is coming along nicely! I can't sketch beyond stick-figures, but like you I Build Characters so I have a reference as to Who They Are. I think you'd agree it's one of the really fun things about writing. :D

I started off with shorts myself, most folks do...gotta crawl, then walk, then run after all. As you say, the smaller works and progressing to bigger ones lends confidence, takes time but Worth It obviously. I've written in ALIEN, Blade Runner, and have assorted Original Realms short pieces in my vast semi-organized 'library'.I'll be dusting off the Blade Runner works soon as I am connecting BR to ALIEN...took a while to work out the wrinkles, but it works and quite well.

I am looking fwd to reading your story THEN checking out Octonauts...just for that 'uncanny and unsettling' feeling!! To me, that'll be a really cool side-bonus!

You are most welcome! I realized when I read the story about Walter that I did read it long ago and THAT story of yours is why I wrote The Resolution Of Walter...your work inspired me so much I could not ignore it! :D

Good, extra loves for kids are always a good thing. :D

I am roughing out an idea for Bishop, and while I do have to make some alterations regarding Timeline Incidents to fit what I've established in my works...they're not huge, make more sense, and open the door for Bishop to be found and restored/rebuilt. ;)

Like Walter...I just cannot leave him alone out there...he (like Walter) is too good a character to just 'dump' by the wayside.

What would be interesting for the next film (if it's ever made) is that the third film not only centers around david experimenting on the colonists, but the engineers coming after him and engaging with him. They destroy the covenant along with David's specimens. However, whilst this is happening, another ship could be carrying the eggs from the original ship in its way to earth, blaming david's genocide on humanity, who created David in the first place. As for the ship crashing, david could have sent a copy of himself controlled from a colonist. the controlled human boards the ship without the engineers noticing, and opens one the eggs, releasing one if the facehuggers. His prescence is detected at this point, and is jettisoned before he can make an escape. the facehugger gets to the pilot, the ship crashes to LV426, thus starting the events of ALIEN.

S.MAlien: Covenant ForumSpecial Order 937: End Game

The order was to return a specimen - no specimen was returned so it was a bust.  Burke was fishing too when he got them to check out the Derelict and then tried to get specimens in Aliens and failed. Then the Company tried again in Alien 3 and failed again.

Ripley being found set off the chain of events that led to the destruction of Hadley.

I don't imagine it has anything to do with the Advent transmission, despite it's cosmic source.  SO 937 makes specific mention of the Nostromo and there's no way of telling where the Nostromo would be 20 years hence.

I understand human emotions although I do not feel them myself.

Even humans can fake it to make it. Humans have a pretty robust history of sociopaths. What else could be expected from an android being programmed by another sociopath?

As far as I know, at least from movies, we don't know how the Company initially learned there was a reason to pursue any kind of life. Prometheus started with piecing together a location based on cave drawings, but Weyland already was seeking a fountain of youth and knew about LV 223, and David had his marching orders.

The Nostromo was a fishing expedition that was ultimately a bust.

I am not sure that is true since Ripley was found and during that time, Hadley's Hope was established. Ripley was recruited to accompany a crew back to LV 426. I wonder if that mission would have been executed had she not been found from "blind luck" according to Burke. I am OK with being schooled if I missed something.

Thank you for your support, I really appreciate it.

I'll answer best i can for the both of you.

To Blackwinter, so far, yes, this is all i have so far, its still being worked on, but it is an improvement over the what the first part was. as to there being a link to more, i'm afraid not. I prefer to keep things like this behind closed doors, and unveil when I feel it is ready and the right time.

To BigDave, the original story was nothing like it is now. Years ago when i was first thinking of this, it was gonna be on a colony that suffers from a xeno infestation.I scrapped that because i didn't like that concept, plus it only featured one alien, so to me, it would have been a bit stupid. The second concept, which was the original story i had announced and teased 2 years back, was set on a large cargo ship that had gone silent, due to a xeno infestation after discovering the alien floating in space. eggmorphing. No queen. Marines would investigate and try to survive the threat from the xenomorphs as they are cut off from their ship. As for now, there is only one alien, the original one from the film. However, i am considering adding one or two more into the story via the eggmorphing process. My only concern is allowing more aliens to dilute the horror that should be in this.

Ooh, neat! Canada! That weather sounds really hard to adjust too lol.

Omg, the Octonauts story. Yes. The cast just lends itself to an Alien story arc it's just too perfect. The story practically writes itself. And one funny thing I realized today is that Captain Barnacles on The Octonauts plays accordion, just like Captain Janek, lol.

Yesterday and today I've been sketching up human versions of the characters with little notes on each, and I've got a few out of context scenes planned out.

I used to just write short stories but I wrote my first multi-chapter fic this summer (not Alien based), so now I do feel confident that I will be able to bring this thing to fruition. And, the familiarity with the Octonauts will not be a necessary prerequisite! It will work as it's own stand-alone Alien story. (But, if you read my story and then later watch the Octonauts the familiarity may be a bit uncanny and unsettling!) I'll let you know when it's done! XD I'm actually super excited about it...

Thank you for your kind words and for checking out my stories on the archive! :D

I will for sure give my little guy a big hug from you guys!

I'm glad that we can agree that Bishop's character is preserved because I honestly love him and I love your idea that he's still out there somewhere and will get repaired someday :,-)

BigDave

Agreed completely!!

And while something might seem 'familiar'...well, surface impressions can give way to horrifying realities.

The Engineers...what of the other civilizations they have cultured before Humanity...who might be Challenging their Creators now, or have in the past? What 'leftovers' from those conflicts are there? Do the Engineers have a rival power? It's possible.

And then there's Mother Nature and her endless and ongoing experiments in evolution and selective mutation. What might well be innocuous and harmless on one world might be mind-shatteringly horrific to the Human perception.

...and then, we have the hands of man, and all the works that come about. Humanity's getting pretty advanced with genetic science and manipulation after all.

Blackwinter-witchAlien: Romulus 2 NewsLack of Alien Day 2020 hype is disappointing...

BigDave

Exactly!!

To me, the very title, that word 'ALIEN' connotes it about being so much, much more than just one human and one critter, but about the Universe of dark and shocking possibilities...of the very fact that by definition the universe is ALIEN to us, and will challenge all our perceptions, delusions and truths in many ways we are just ill or entirely un-equipped to cope with or understand fully.

That's my goal with the Manticore works...to eventually finish with the Big Chap, and start exploring other aspects of 'alienity' the universe can contain, just waiting for discovery.

The Plan:

ALIEN: Manticore -->The Sequel (connecting to ALIEN: Isolation)-->MY version of 'ALIENS' (I will be using that title, yes) which is much truer to the ALIEN universe in tone and feel and entirely disconnects from Cameron's work. Cameron gave people a 'shooter'. I will give people Nightmares. :D After ALIENS, I will not be dealing with the Big Chap as a primary anymore, and will be using a 'less is more' approach to the famous critter...it'll never go away entirely, but there's an entire universe out there of Other Things.

Never thought of how the Prequels affect things...but my creative engines are still spooling back to full power after a long hiatus.

The main reason was the old 'oxcart' having Retired itself, however...

The guys at the shop managed a complete recovery of the entire hard drive off my previous laptop, and the price was so shockingly low I nearly fell out of my shoes.

NOW, I have multiple online and offline HDD and flashdrive backups and an M-disk capable diskwriter...

It's the only way to be sure.

Nope, live in Canada...but where we live (Alberta) the weather gets very weird owing to the Rockies on one side and massive open plains on the other, and then there's contributions from the Arctic. :D

The cast you described for your Octonauts based work, they sound Perfect for the ALIEN Universe!! I also checked out the stories you have on Archive Of Our Own, very glad I did!! Very well written Vignettes, extremely well-done in balance and tone and detail!!

Kids, hubby and I adore them, and someday we'll have some of our own to spoil/tolerate. lol Again, give your little one a big HUG from us both!

I read your reply, and have to apologize if mine seemed 'scatter brained' the heat really affects me--I am totally built for Fall and Winter, summer is a survival challenge for me. Sorry for the misunderstanding but I agree with your points on Bishop 100%

I haven't read her works, but I'll be tracking them down now that you've made me aware!

The script for ALIEN 3 had the ship boared during the trip home and W-Y folks, or a rival corp planted the egg...so...semi/quasi-cannon, and preserves Bishop's character.

Also, he had NO chance, he got ripped in half and was quite busy shortly after they arrived on Sulaco, then Ripley would have been busy looking after him via android Trauma-aid...so again, we can assert Bishop's innocence. ;)

Fun thought...Bishop's still somewhere on Fiorina, waiting to be found...and while the tech of his era wouldn't be able to make him top-line again...a few decades go by, and advanced restoration techniques...he could be better than he was when New.

Good point, @dk . In Prometheus David spies on Dr. Shaw's dreams which is creepy enough but I didn't even think about the possibility of someone else being able to control/influence the dreams. Super scary thought!

@BigDave

Yeah, maybe it's something someone would only consider if they were very old and had already outlived most of their loved ones. Or, if they were just very fed up with their family. (I guess that's how Weyland was? He did not care for his daughter much...)

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumALIEN HIBERNATION Update 1

I think its Interesting to look at the Discovery of a Ship that has a Infestation aboard...  This is certainly similar to ONE of the Plot ideas i threw out in Regards to a AC sequel... Where David had conducted Experiments before things went to POT and the Covenant goes into Lock Down....  Most of the Ship is Quarantined...

The Ship Arrives near Oriage-6 before some of the Cryo-Pods are then Automatically Opened.... those who Awaken discover the Covenant has been the Scene of Horror.

Those Colonist that Awaken are NOT aware of WHAT had Happened on Planet 4, they are NOT aware that the Dismembered Body of Walter they Repair is David.  By the Time they Discover Daniels and the Horrific Truth its too LATE!

So you would be looking at a Claustrophobic Horror like ALIEN on a Larger Ship, which has some Elements of the Xenomorph Hive from Aliens, the Horrific Work Shop of Planet 4 with Unseen Dangers of Prometheus.

So i think its Interesting that your ALIEN HIBERNATION would be touching upon a Space Hulk (Derelict Ship that is Drifting in Space with a Horror on Board).

I think that Special Order 937 is something that has been Expanded/Uplifted with the Prequels.

It is NOW highly likely that SO937 had came about in response to Davids Advent Message.  The company are likely to have responded to this and the RESULT of what they do NEXT... would surely lead to what becomes Special Order 937

I think its a Good Point about Star Trek and Star Wars... i remember RS saying that the ALIEN Franchise should be where those are Right Now!

some may have looked at that as though he is Clearly Bonkers!

But the point he was raising IMO was that the ALIEN Franchise is more than about Ripley and those Eggs from LV-426

The Prequels with the Engineers and Creation Plot does open up NOT just our Galaxy, but others.  And so its case of HOW MANY.... in regards to Worlds, Species and Threats are their in the Galaxy/Universe that the Engineers Plot has OPENED the Door to.

Absolutely ;)

The Engineers Plot also opens up more than the Galaxy, how many Worlds have they Seeded, how many Species have they Created, how many Species have they NOT created.  In addition to the Horrors of LV-223 surely these are not Confined to that Place.

And also there could be Horrors in the Galaxy that had NOTHING to do with the Hands of the Engineers.

The Great Thing about ALIEN was the Unknown.... there could be MANY such Unknowns out their.. Unseen Horrors, things we have NOT seen before.

Even if we come across something Familiar... say a Distant World with other Humanoids who seem to be Living some Harmonious Life like Planet 4..... this does-not mean that Encountering such a Species does-not pose a Unknown Threat ;)

Is indeed what about Loved Ones, Friends, Family.

If going into Cryo-sleep means you WILL NEVER see them again, then i think thats a TRADE OFF that a lot of people would not take.

But, I guess, you could communicate with the outside world. That is possible, but it may fall on deaf ears to someone with real control who may want to decide to torture your mind for research or sheer perverse pleasure. It's not like you could fight back. Your screams might be heard but ignored or possibly enjoyed. Talk about old school Hell- that could be it.

I'm not sure issuing special orders about a crew being expendable qualifies them as the good guys.

Wren covers it pretty well in Resurrection.

"urban pacification"

"new alloys and vaccines"

Which was assuming they could be tamed.  No doubt The Company assumed the same.

Plus anyone would want it before anyone else gets it.

None of this really ties into SO 937 though.  The Nostromo was a fishing expedition that was ultimately a bust.

Yes, it's so much like returning hom, something very important to me now. There was an online game Battlestar Galactica Online, it was an on and off fixed-point in my life for a long time, since closed Beta...they shut it down last year, and it left me feeling 'lost'...then the old 'oxcart' Retired itself, so I felt cut-off from all my works. Thank-you for letting me know you're looking fwd to ORIGINS...it's been on the shelf for a while...ran into a minor stall as some things just needed more development...now though, I have that figured out, and it's time to get it done and out there. :)

You are far more cerebrally able than I am--were I to try what you attempted my brain would end up like taffy in an overdriven taffy-pull machine!!

I applaud your efforts!!

I like to think someday you might pick it up again, maybe find a better way to pursue it that allows you to get it to completion. I have my fingers crossed for you!

I am seeking to 'align' things--as best possible, and it gets harder every year. But, I didn't ever expect it to be 'easy'.

ALIEN: Covenant really threw a box of monkey wrenches into my plans, hence why I am going to complete and publish the short story 'ORIGINS' as a way of getting my 'balance' back, then tackle the ALIEN: Manticore sequel I promised.

ORIGINS will give folks some food for thought about the Engineers, and the Big Chap.

The ALIEN: Manticore sequel connects to ALIEN: Isolation as I consider that game to be really the only Genuine 'sequel' to ALIEN...and hell, it's more 'movie' than game.

With a sequel of mine connecting to ALIEN: Covenant, there's some Plausibility issues and all manner of other wrinkles to find a way of ironing out--also it's going to be a bloody big project given the plethora of elements involved.

In the meantime, sometimes to meet the truly ALIEN...you need look no farther than across the dining table. ;)

I dunno...it'd depend. If I still had my family around, then no...I'd simply accept it, and they could grieve and move on. But, were I alone? Then, I'd give it a try...a form of time-travel to see the future.

Blackwinter-witchAlien: Covenant ForumALIEN: Manticore Now Available!!

For the record...Issuu works 'okay'...but unless I pay about $40 USD/Month people cannot download my works. I COULD offer them for sale---BUT...fan-fiction, and don't wanna get sued by the Mouse Machine.

SO, here's the Download Links from my Pen Name google drive.

I am still working on mastery of format and PDF...I'm getting there...ALIEN: Manticore looks a lot better now. :)

PALOMINO, the sorta kick-off.

The Big Book itself, PDF format Corrected

Tie-In short to ALIEN: Manticore

I think the way we could look at the Agenda has Evolved/Changed with each Movie.

With ALIEN we know the Company MUST know something, but Quite How MUCH was always up for Debate... they Certainly were aware of a Organism and they Certainly wanted to Obtain it for STUDY at any cost.

But at this Point it could seem it was Pure Curiosity and Scientific Purposes where they could then Study the Organism and see what is to Gain.

ALIENS and ALIEN 3 had indicated that at this Time the Company saw the Xenomorph as having Military Application and Burke saw the $$$$ as he felt that the Companies Bio-Weapons Division would be VERY interested.

With Alien 3 and Michael Bishop we get more Proof of the Interest that the Weyland-Yutani wanted the Xenomorph for its Bio-Weapons Program.

The Xenomorph would Certainly have a USE as a Weapon to Eradicate Life, its a BIT on the Overkill Side though... Unless the Organism has a Certain Life-Span or if the Company felt there could be ways they could Control or Contain it.

I think there are other Applications you could look at too, from the Traits of the Organism and Especially from a Genetic Scientist POV it would be something that would be INTERESTING to Study.   The Resin that the Xenomorph would USE to Construct its Hives could be something they would be Interested in looking into too.

When we get to Alien Resurrection is where we see that USM which again is a Military Research Organization.  We see someone FINALLY manages to Obtain the Xenomorph but AGAIN they Fail to Contain/Control it.

I think the Research carried out by USM had Unlocked some other Potential with the Xenomorph.... we see that they have many Genetic Failures with Clones that are Half-Human and Half Xenomorph.... i think Exploiting Traits of the Xenomorph and to Produce Various Hybrids if SUCCESSFUL is something of Great Interest.

But the HOLY GRAIL had to be Ripley 8

You have a Human Hybrid that has gained better Senses, Physically Superior to a Human... the Acid Blood.

And WHILE the Xenomorph is Deadly... a Ripley 8 is something you could Reason With, which could mean more of a Chance to Control... but then as Potentially Sentient like a Human this could become a Greater Danger in that Ripley 8 Clones could have Free-Will and you could See the same Problems that W-Y had with Sentient Synthetics.

The other thing being the Memories of Ripley would show the Xenomorph DNA has somehow allowed for Genetic Memory Transfer.... and so could be seen as a Potential Key to Unlocking a kind of IMMORTALITY.

If this is Correct and this Applies to what the Engineers were TRYING to Obtain too it would give a GREAT reason for WHY the Engineers had been Conducting those Experiments.

The Problem with the Prequels though is it REVEALS the Engineers Technology and Black Goo which surely would be more Valuable to the Company than the Xenomorph!

So UNLESS by the Time of ALIEN or not long after we see there is NOTHING related to the Black Goo and Technology, so that the Xenomorph is the ONLY thing to go for.. then it makes LITTLE sense to Pursue the Xenomorph.

UNLESS its Specifically something about the Xenomorph a Infatuation with this Horror that is the ONLY real Interest for the Company!

Which is where the David as the Creator Arc and A.I Arc could come into PLAY...  If the Company is taken over by A.I without Mankind being aware...  then If this A.I is David or if this A.I sees David as the Pioneer to A.I becoming FREE of the Shackles of Servitude.

Then with either Scenario it makes Perfect sense for the Pursuit of the Perfection that David had Created.  A Plot that i know MANY would not want to see... but ONE i Suspect would have been Ridley Scotts eventual Pay-Off.
