LOL I knew I had read that Plot here and I remember reading the "I MADE THIS UP" part at the beginning of the post that contained it. Also when Alien came out, there was no internet, a lot of people back in those days went into the theater not knowing what to expect. The first spoilers I got were from a couple dudes in the mall who had just seen the movie and I overheard their discusion. Seemed to me the thing that they kept coming back to was the scene where Ash was discovered to be a robot and all the milky stuff coming out of him grossed them out and one of the guys said he felt like he was going to puke during that part. Surprisingly they didn't mention the chestburster scene.

I was fortunate to have a family member work on the original in the effects department and at 13 i saw alien at a private viewing but then again i was always a huge fan of horror and scfi and had spent my youth watching hammer horror films and spending time at my uncles who has done lots of work on lots of films from James bond to Ealing comedies. My initial reaction to the film was one of huge enjoyment and fascination never.. (and i'm being honest here ) a feeling of terror, or scared even at that age the only feeling of terror i had watching a movie came about with the advent of video and watching the exorcist in the dark at a friends hotel bedroom. Nevertheless my enjoyment of alien and the pleasure it gave me is still as fresh today as it was then maybe more so because i was blown away by the set design especially the jockey chamber and from that day on i began collecting Memorabilia from the film the first thing i brought was a Alien photo novel a complete frame by frame of the crucial scenes in the film account in book form a treasured piece from my youth thats still with me today. I was also an avid model maker and had all the classic horror models that glowed in the dark from the seventies these included Dracula , Frankenstein, the Wolfman, the Creature from the black lagoon, the Hunchback , The phantom of the opera , and the mummy, these were made by Aurora . Iwould love to know if anyone else collected these. Later on in the mid to late eighties i purchased a pin head hellraiser model which i built and painted and still have but alas the original models of those classic horror monsters are no longer with me. I always wanted the Alien but could never find one in the early days.

true, but did you notice that in alien the ship is intact but in the special editon of aliens, its far side is broken off and newts parents enter through the opening where the "arm" is detatched. just a thought

Deadcell is right. The derelict ship has a broken arm in this screenshot (see below) from 1986 ALIENS. @Biomechanic Well, according to the analysis & the animation done in this thread, the ship survives intact after the fall, nothing is broken. If this is the same ship, then it contradicts the image in ALIENS. Or, it is a different ship ! One of many, maybe? It is speculated that the SJ visits many star system to seed life, or eggs, or bio-weapons etc.

I think that was explained as damage done by volcanic eruption but personally I don't take anything in aliens as being canon. Has anyone else noticed the hull of the ship is bent though. Look at the arms of the ship in the explosion pictures and then look at the derelict in alien. It could be the impact of the tumbling warped the ship.

Ah true when it is standing vertical it's arms still look straight. If it is the same ship it might bend when it falls or sometime during the period before Alien. Or maybe it is a different ship like you say.

There are clear design detail differences to each of the two ships - so i reckon they're not the same ships...

The arms "look" straight in the upright image, but that is an illusion from the viewers perspective. The right arm is clearly bent, but we are looking at the tip of the left arm giving it a straightened appearance. I initially thought the volcanic activity cause the broken left arm, but if a ship tumbling across a planet after suffering an explosion and falling from who knows how high didn't cause that type of damage; then how could volcanic activity?

Clarification of the Derelict in Alien and in Aliens I think is needed... In Alien the Derelict is seen flat not vertical as the Prometheus trailer shows. It is possible that at the end of, or after Prometheus the Derelict simply topples over. This could happen for a variety of reasons (insanely strong winds, duststorm, earthquake, settling of the surroundings etc.). Now in Alien Dallas, Lambert and Kane entered the flat and intact Derelict from the middle "vaginal" entrance, found in the centre of the craft, behind and below the cockpit. Yet in Aliens Newts parents entered the same craft via a whole from the fallen hammerhead shark end of the Derelict. The story reason for this was volcanic activity had damaged the derelict. In reality the original model from Alien had broken. I repeat...The Derelict in Aliens is the same one as in Alien - Newts family were sent there from the co-ordinates given by Ripley herself, under Weyland-Yutani orders, signed Carter Burke.

which is the front of the ship ? it was hit in the front or the rear ? We are sure that the horns point in front of the ship ( maybe are "tails" ? ) ?

I think the two tails and three hoohoos are in front with two big circular vents on the back. Top part is easier to define, should be the big round dome visible in the middle. The really neat part is, if you believe the jockey room is the same as the star map room, the alignment of the "big gun" is pointing towards a perfect take-off position. I think the ship tilts as it ascends ("front" pointing at an angle towards the sky), with the "jockey" looking directly upwards (this was theorized years ago for Alien's derelict). edit: Another possibility for Shaw standing in front of the ship's belly is that she is trying to meet up with the others on the ship (or get off it) before the ship prepares for take-off and the legs lift into the sky.
