Hector is a robotic exoskeleton controlled by a canister-sized living brain originally taken from multiple human fetus.
Deaths head is a cyborg containing the collective personalities of many, many individuals. He is a Marvel character that first appeared in the 80's Transformers comics.

I would appreciate it if you fixed the spelling please of "Giger", I have such respect for that man that I cannot stand seeing his name spelled funny.
That said, Maybe this will help in your quest for answers...

Definition of "Bio-Mechanical"
1. (used with a sing. verb) The study of the mechanics of a living body, especially of the forces exerted by muscles and gravity on the skeletal structure.
2. (used with a pl. verb) The mechanics of a part or function of a living body, such as of the heart or of locomotion.

If you could simulate DNA exactly, then it would be DNA!
As for the space jockey in the chair being forever bound to that chair to serve a function is out of the question in my mind. With the bio technology the space jockeys appear to have why have a body in the shape of a humanoid at all sitting there, why not have just the chair doing the tasks.
On an unrelated note... My god that deaths head character has muscles packed EVERYWHERE in his thighs, how the hell does that even work!
ReplyartyohPrometheus ForumBio-Mechanical is it more than just a description of Geigers art?Jan 3, 2012
My guess, is that the SJs can merge/unmerge with the chair ( and perhaps other things ) at will.....but I'd say that Giger's version of "biotechnology" is distinguished more by it's disturbing eroticism, than anything else. Stylistically, he's particularly fond of using repeating patterns of parallel lines, tendons in the form of corrugated cabling, etc., but his figures are usually very organic in overall form and pose. It's easy to recognize and identify his work, because of that.

Its impossible for a computer to be random. Have to disagree with you there. with just a few variables a computer program can be entirely random, I know because I've done it.

I think we're a little too imperfect with little or no goals but our own to have been created. To me life just exploits the universe without the need of a touching hand. We seem to be the negative to everything else that isn't considered to be alive.

I think we're a little too imperfect with little or no goals except our own to have been created. Too me life just seems to exploit the rest of the universe through trial and error without a helping hand to tell it what is wrong or what is right. If anything I would like to consider life to be the negative of what we would consider to not be alive, an anomaly to the universe.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumAre humans the "robots" of another being?Jan 3, 2012
that was the whole concept of Bladerunner ...the only difference between the man and the replicant was the hope of an afterlife ..otherwise we are identical
without a soul ..an afterlife of some kind ..." all this moments will be lost like tears in the rain "
what i find silly is AI become self conscious ... a DNA replicant can have self consciouness ( because have a biological brain ) but is human ...something entirely sistetic will only do what is programmed to do ( smart or random or whatever ) but at the end will just "act" .
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumAre humans the "robots" of another being?Jan 3, 2012
I don't like the term Artificial Intelligence, it would take a long, long time to create for no immediate, useful purpose.
Instead we need Vocational Intelligence, suited to a machines purpose, function and actions.

the saucer shaped craft over those falls hasn't been touched on too much,
i get the impression a montage of terraforming from the Engineers* might
have that shot included in it. just my own speculation
i do wonder though,
if Scott would go in the direction of somehow tying in some the primitive "ufo art"
and ancient UFO lore that has been spoken of here on Earth for thousands of years?
the craft above those falls does give off the idea to me that, the disc shaped craft
that is gliding above those falls is definitely related to the horseshoe craft that is
seen moments later in the trailer

IMO, The big ship we see above the waterfall could be the mothership for the derelicts. We already know there is more than one derelict.
ReplySeeYouHicksPrometheus Forum"Flying Saucer" another race?Jan 3, 2012
IMO I say the derelicts get highjacked. I think there are Space Jockeys and another race ( those big zombie looking men). The Space Jockys are the "Gods" and those giant men are mutated humans stealing the "fire." The giant men are a species related to man that got killed off, and in rage, hand off the "fire" to us. As a consequence we use this fire to kill off our own species so they can re-populate the Earth.
I say that saucer is their's!
ReplyRickPrometheus Forum"Flying Saucer" another race?Jan 3, 2012
You know thats is a really good idea. Ok think of religion. I'm not going religious just drawing some parallels. In all religions there are those in position and those trying to usurp that position. Think yin/yang, good/evil, order/chaos. What if we find ourselves in the middle of a battle between 2 races? The SJ's and another one trying to usrup the others power. I mean how else the different ship styles (saucer vs bio-mech) alien vs tall greys? It makes sense when you see the SJ ship explosion in the trailer and it crashing with the previous scense of the saucer over the waterfall.
On a side note where is the tall grey video that I seen a pic from?

ReplyartyohPrometheus Forum"Flying Saucer" another race?Jan 3, 2012
Perhaps it's as much ( or more ) a machine, than a ship, and I wonder if the large mass visible behind it, is either directly attached or closely related to its' fuction. It could look different from the artifact, simply because it serves a different purpose.

I think our discussions are all part of the fun. Speculation is great, and in the end we can look back and see who got bits of the story right or wrong.
As for Fox...as a Marketing student myself, I think, or should I say; hope that it is all fabricated. If so its bloody brilliant. We've all sat here on this site (and other forums too) complaining about Fox's lack of a marketing campaign when all along I think we've been part of the whole plan.
By slowly leaking images and poor quality video and then quickly removing them, Fox have managed to create a boat load of hype. I mean look at recent activity; the darn trailer had three of its own trailers! I think Fox have had all of this planned and frankly I applaud them; they're doing a great job in adding suspense to the release date and attracting more interest to the film.
ReplyGrooveraiderPrometheus ForumSpin-doctoring by Fox/fans?Jan 3, 2012
I second that, Mentos ! I believe Sir Ridley Scott created Prometheus
for its fans, first. But also make the film stand on its own feet for the average
movie goer.

"I think our discussions are all part of the fun. Speculation is great"
Couldn't agree more, Mentos - I believe it's not only good fun but also an intelectual challenge to try to understand what's in store for us in the movie with such incomplete information available. And it allows also to put ourselves in the shoes of the scriptwriters and understand the challenge of coming up with a story that's not only interesting and surprising but also consistent with all the Alien history. In the end, if the story is indeed successful, it will help us to better appreciate their effort.
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumSpin-doctoring by Fox/fans?Jan 3, 2012
imagine that.....anyone of us could be a spy for fox!!.....
I hope their is some spin doctoring involved...cause i want the plot to throw some interesting twists at me...some surprises that was not anticipated....I read somewhere that Ridley himself does not like the idea of endless speculations on the internet that might spoil the plot of Prometheus....wish I can remember where I saw this....it was in a very recent attached article on these forums.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumSpin-doctoring by Fox/fans?Jan 3, 2012
With our endless speculation, theories and debates we are hyping the film for ourselves and for others. In essence we are marketing the film. So I have one question - when do I get my cheque?
ReplyJeystonePrometheus ForumSpin-doctoring by Fox/fans?Jan 3, 2012
the PG thing isn't speculation..these days no one does R rating in fear of not appealing to the dumb low IQ transformers assholes..Prometheus will be a shitfest, a missed opportunity with no soul
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumSpin-doctoring by Fox/fans?Jan 3, 2012
@ Jeystone
At this point the rating has'nt been confirmed....I am not particularly comfortable with a PG13 rating eitheir...but Based on what u just said....u seem like a missed opportunity with no soul!
Tho I have to support one thing u did say....Transformer junkies are indeed low IQ assholes!
ReplyEngineer Prototype - Model GAJ84Prometheus ForumSpin-doctoring by Fox/fans?Jan 3, 2012
I think the marketing has been done pretty well so far. What I would like to is is some viral stuff, similar to the viral marketing done for films like The Dark Knight & Cloverfield etc.
@Juxtapose. I'm sorry but you are totally wrong about Transformer junkies being low IQ assholes. I am a life long Transformers fan and I have an IQ of 140 odd. I am not an asshole either.
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumSpin-doctoring by Fox/fans?Jan 3, 2012

ReplyEngineer Prototype - Model GAJ84Prometheus ForumSpin-doctoring by Fox/fans?Jan 3, 2012
No worries, no offence taken. No i'm not a rocket scientist or anything like that, just a pretty regular guy. My brother has an even higher IQ, his is something like 170 odd. He was actually offered a scholarship at some science university in Russia but he turned it down.

Hahahahah....actually my previous post was an attempt at very subtle sarcasm...lol
To be honest i am relieved it did not spark a fight...then i would have to sit here and think of the perfect comeback...competing with mister 140 IQ...lol...I have no fucking clue what mine is....I also have no concept of what is considered high or low on a scale?
As for Transformers....i like it to a degree...love the cgi (even tho it is a little overused)...but it's that Shia La Buff (can't be bothered to google the proper spelling) character that puts me of the most!
But peace dude...like i said each to his own...at least we have one thing in common....

Another thing there I totally agree with you on, Shia La Butt (as i like to call him) was the worst thing about Bay's Transformers trilogy.
Each to his own is something I live by and i'm also relieved an argument wasn't started. Like you said, at least we have one thing in common (and probably more), Prometheus.
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumSpin-doctoring by Fox/fans?Jan 3, 2012
Shia La Buff...belongs in romantic comedy's along side Jennifer Aniston...Those 2 would be the perfect couple....sure their will be plenty we agree on....Transformers are'nt one of them...but i will rather see that than the latest installment of the Twilight series...and perhaps even the latest Harry Potter disappointment....i never read those books...I never want to either...those HP movies are'nt what i would describe as bad...but they just don't really draw me in....

ReplyMentosPrometheus ForumCreepy theory: derelict is egg factory and chair is surgery table Jan 3, 2012
I quite like that idea to be completely honest.
The only flaw in the plan is that I truly believe the telescopic structure is used to navigate the craft.

Above you can clearly see what seems to be some sort of star map in the room containing the chair/telescope, so for my money its more of a navigational tool/control for piloting the ship.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumCreepy theory: derelict is egg factory and chair is surgery table Jan 3, 2012
Bioformer, why do people still use this term. Prometheus contains no such thing, did you not watch the comic-con panel from summer last year where Damon whathisname said that he was asked by Ridley to take Spaihts story (which was very much an Alien prequel) and turn it into something original and separate from Alien. Spaihts story is old news.
Next you'll be mentioning terraforming or the creation of the Xenomorph/Alien (sigh - yes Sparky this means you). Prometheus is about mankinds origins and beliefs and terrifying revelations they uncover when they go looking for their creators. There is no bioformer, there is no terraforming (which was a Cameron idea btw, not Ridleys) and there is no Xenomorph/Alien.
Prometheus is a film about mankinds origins and the Space Jockey, and that is the only way in which it relates to Alien. Ridley and Damon have said it a million times, when will people listen to what they are being told, not to want they want to hear.
ReplyGrooveraiderPrometheus ForumCreepy theory: derelict is egg factory and chair is surgery table Jan 3, 2012
@Baldas - That's some creepy ass Giger-esque idea. I dunno wether or not
20th Century Fox would allow Sir Ridley to go that far...LOL
I appreciate your thoughts but i'm also with Mentos. The pic
looks like a navigational room where the SJ contemplates its
destination.
ReplySubterraneanHomesickPrometheus ForumCreepy theory: derelict is egg factory and chair is surgery table Jan 3, 2012
Mentos + Grooveraider: damn, that's a good point eheh. Still, I believe that the story can hold if you assume then that the chair alone does the trick, or that the chair rotates to the lower floor when surgery takes place for some other mechanism to take over.
Snorkelbottom: I use the word "bioformer" because it's ubiquitous on the website. Everybody would assume correctly that I mean some kind of genetic base that can mixed with other DNA to create other species. I'm not a native english speaker (I'm portuguese) so I don't think I have the skill to always find the most appropriate english words. Feel free to replace the word "bioformer" for "goo" or whatever you feel more appropriate.
Additionally, this theory does not go against the search for the origin of men. Engineers can be either the creators of men that in the end have a creepy use in mind for our species... or maybe they are just a species that took over the technology of our creators (another race, let's say The Gods).... or any other idea - there could plenty that would be consistent with what I presented here.
For me the SJ is just like the humans - another race that came to the planet in the past to look for their origins and is also used by the Engineers. Again, we would find what they are and this would be consistent with every RS's comment.
Therefore, I respectfully disagree with your points.
