Well I guess if you wanted a sex bot to service the outer rim colonies, they would have to be fairly realistic, who wants a pastie glossy plastic bot. Not only would they have to be aesthetically desirable but functional seeing that, in the future, no one does the deed to make children anymore.

@ Sparticus It's a good idea for you to quote it cause you never know what I may write later. Yes, I guess I'm also glad we are all here in this multi-demonsional blip in time. Now, the first ones who are gona makem are the Chinese cause of their desire to get it on with whiteys so look out Chuck Norris cause they can replicate anyone they want, especially seeing that everyone lives longer and they eliminated all sexually transmitted diseases, so don't invest in condom companies...but that does not matter anyway cause they also invented "The Lube Condom"! It was discovered by a guy on crack! "No no baby, I don't need a condom cause this is the condom!".

The Chinese could win a war very easily anywhere on the planet I think by simply using the strategy of "Occupation".
Ya think "Occupy New York" is harsh?
Just Wait Till The Chinese Get Hip To That Idea!

Sorry, I dont know much about occupation but if they did go to war, well they would make it a good one! I read some where that in the next 50 years all the major cities in the world will be the same. But there won't be a fisheries either unless we start Fish Farming in a Big Way! Check out aquaponics! grow your own shit. Then turn it into fuel. Then later they invented the MC Hammer sex bot "Can Touch This!"advertising on giant balloon spaceships. Largest sales across the solar system!

OK since I can't post a picture, I'll just tell you guys what I think.
I'm pretty good at placing things together with very little info.
First, look at the picture of the ampule room where they are looking at the head, near the dead body.
Increase the size of the dead body, and pay particular attention to the hips and chest of the dead body.
Next, put it next to one of the pictures of the humanoid in the map/chair room, and rotate it so that it looks like it's standing. Again, pay attention to the hips and chest.
From what I can see, it looks like the 2 are the same species. Those hips and the chest (look at all similar to the original in Alien? Without a hole in it?)
I think it does.
Now, look at the star chart picture. The person in the center of it is smaller than the humanoid. You can tell by looking at the 2 doorways either side of the star chart bit, then look at the humanoid when the chair is coming up. The humanoid is as big as if not bigger than those doors. The person in the middle of the star chart is TINY compared to that guy. Again, the doors are what you should use for size reference.
Third: the mutant looking guy that's leaping off the vehicle at the other crew member?
Look at the 3 people in the medical room when the woman comes in and falls to her knees. The guy kneeling to the right of the guy in the wheelchair has a mohawk-style haircut. So does the guy leaping off the vehicle. So, if that's Holloway, which by the way I personally don't think it is but rather another member of the crew, then it must take awhile for him to start changing.....
I think that the humanoid is in fact the Space Jockey.
But, has anyone ever thought that there may be ANOTHER alien race that the Space Jockeys themselves report to? ie, the "Higher "Power" Scott has referenced a few times now?
I think we haven't seen those beings yet, and I'm starting to become convinced that there is in fact another race involved here somewhere. Just from my own Batman-ing of everything I've seen/read/heard.
Who knows, I might be completely wrong this time...... But past experience has shown me that I'm not too shabby at picking stuff like this in movies......
First time I saw The Empire Strikes Back, I was about 7 or 8, and I turned to my Dad who was watching it with me in case I got scared and said about half way through, just before the scene with the cave fight between Luke and Vader,
"Dad, is Darth Vader Luke's Daddy?"
You should have seen the look on his face. I'll never forget it, and was really proud of myself for having been right...... There are other examples, but too many to list here. Pisses people off when I do it too, and get it right. No-one wants to talk to me about upcoming movies because I usually get it right about the plots and such......
Just my 2 cents :-D

I want to like it but this PG rating business means basically it will suck..I'm sorry but no PG movie can capture the essence of Alien..the only way this won't end up a complete failure is if he films extra gory uncut footage for the Bluray at least..I mean why not?
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumI hope Prometheus is as disturbing....Jan 3, 2012
The impression one gets in Ridleys recent comments regards the matter of a PG13 rating is this...
Fox want a PG13 version of Prometheus, so they can make as much money as possible on what is regarded as the most anticipated film of 2012. However Ridley is making the film he wants to make, whether or not it will be PG13 and/or R depends upon what finished product Ridley presents to fox, or as he put it "we've covered our arses either way".
ReplyNeurionPrometheus ForumI hope Prometheus is as disturbing....Jan 3, 2012
@Spartacus,
Your words:
“Ridley is not some guy you just lightly say, well, he did this and it was crap or he did that and it was crap, of if he does this or that, it's gonna be crap, and for one reason before all others...”
“To anyone that would even infer such things, please POST FOR ME A LINK TO WATCH THE FILMS THAT YOU MADE THAT WERE BETTER THAN HIS !!!”
“This guy is in the Top Ten Directors ALIVE on this planet right now !!!”
“If he says EPIC believe me it's Epic in a Good Way !!!”
“After what we've seen, IMO you'd have to be "Slow on the uptake" or just plain "Nutz" not to bank on Ridley having a massive hit here!!!”
My words:
I am a fan of ALIEN and several other Ridley Scott films, therefore, I’m a fan of Ridley Scott. However, this does not preclude the possibility of him directing what I might call a bad…or failure of a film. Since this is art, every viewer has different likes and dislikes…and are going to weigh in differently on the subject. Now, Ridley is experienced and technically, he knows how to make a movie…I don’t think there’s any here who doubt about that. Every film he’s made, has been “well made.” However, he has made some films that I just plain didn’t care for. And as you know…there’s no accounting for taste. He can’t please everybody.
WE THE PEOPLE…of this website are constantly debating, joking, arguing, agreeing…and disagreeing…on how we’d like this PROMETHEUS story to play out and how it will probably play out. There’s going to be no way in HELL that Scott is going to be able to please everyone.
Whether you’re Lean, Kubrick, Coppola, Spielberg, Lucas, Scorsese, Altman, Pollack or whomever…you won’t always be able to please every filmgoer. That’s just the nature of the “Starbeast.” Since there are so many varying expectations and wish-lists…some folks will be elated with the final product, some disappointed, some saying “Whatever,” while still others might even hate it.
As far as having to be a filmmaker in order to critique a film or declare that it’s “crap”…I’m afraid I don’t agree with that. In the grand scheme of things, there are few filmmakers, and many filmgoers. The movie is designed and supposed to entertain the masses. If you’re in a restaurant, and you think the food tastes bad…I think you should have the right to say to your friends, “I think this movie…I mean food…tastes bad. So it just depends on what Sir Ridley serves it up.
However you slice it…anybody posting on this website has been touched, in one way or another by the ALIEN film series…and is probably very excited for this new film. I wish that I was as completely optimistic as yourself…but my shields are up…just in case.

Just a side comment: I don't usually take anything in Aliens as canon (just my personal preference), but I thought this was interesting to note. I caught this the first time i watched the DC of Aliens. The derelict ship appears to have sustained more damage than when first seen in ALIEN. (Sorry if this was already discussed.)

ReplyRickPrometheus ForumTwo Different Space Jockey Vessels…Or The Same One?Jan 3, 2012
Neurion,
I agree with you. I actually think the ships are different. The Terrain of LV-426 at the derelict is significantly different than that of the ship in Prometheus. The ships are similar but NOT the same. The Hammer Head arm curls up in the derelict like a plant leaf reaching towards the light. I did mention in another post (discontinuity). Different Ships Different Planets. LV-426 didn't turn into a Primordial Planetoid in 30 years and when you watch the Trailer they are running from it in broad daylight like you would see on a planet inside the goldielocks zone not a moon to a jupiter type planet like LV-426 is. If you recall in Aliens the sun never rose. Even when newt said its going to get dark soon it was already dark like dusk.
Just my opinion.

Rick

Alright. My two bits. A bit of interpreting evidence, a bit of rational thought and a bit of hypothetical thinking.
...is it just me that can't see the serpent?....I see a white thing with the word..."CARD" on it?...and that's about it....
However somebody on the forum (thanks!) had posted this link:Slow motion footage At the 2:03 mark you will see a bit better quality (more frames, sharper, brighter). Still terrible quality but an improvement.

Okay. just the facts/evidence first (light interpretation)
Now looking at this version I think it could be the opened sarcophagus in the SJ chair room. The solid metallic top becoming like plastic or cloth sheet and flowing/pulling to the side like a curtain. Vapour and light ensues. This is the evidence and how my eyes/mind interpret it.

Then some rational thought/connecting the dots (heavy interpretation)
Looking at picture from AVP Galaxy´s trailer analysis below the sarcophagus on the left has opened:

It seems to have the top cover missing that we see on the sarcophagus on the right. My first thought was that where has the cover been placed ? But seeing the footage tells me that it has not been raised off but it could have been pulled to the side like a thin cloth. And I think we can be pretty confident it is a sarcophagus as there is the window on the right and space for arms on the side (see pic below).

Then some playing with ideas (no evidence what so ever, total jibberish)
Something/somebody might come out/go in the sarcophagus but the scene stops before it. Could be the tall guy.
What happens to the sarcophagus is not necessarily organic transformation. It could be sci-fi nano memory metal shape shifting. Maybe the difference between the Alien and SpaceJockey is that A is totally organic being (and perfect at that like Ash stated in Alien movie) the SJ uses nanotech in their technology but could also have nanotechnology incorporated in their physiology. Would make interfacing easier with the technology they have. There could be other cool cyborg capabilities as well (grow a gun on your shoulder it you need it etc). Here imagination is starting to get out of hand. :-)
And a disclaimer:
What do I learn from this? Absolutely nothing useful as to me it reveals nothing of the plot (probably reason why it is in the trailer). It was a fun detective work though but time consuming.

Something/somebody might come out/go in but the scene stops before it. Could be one of the infected Magellan/Prometheus crew going in to get final transformations done. Could be the tall guy getting out that was there just waiting to get out and active. There is total of 3-4 sarcophagus (the 4th looks different from the other 3). IF the sarcophagus are found in the SJ space craft then the craft needs crew of 3-4 to do what it needs to do. But this all is hypothetical.
What happens to sarcophagus is not necessarily organic transformation. It could be sci-fi nano memory metal shape shifting. Maybe the difference between the Alien and SpaceJockey is that A is totally organic (and perfect at that as Ash stated) but SJ uses nanotech. People really do need to not read too much into Ridleys comments, especially when he uses words like EVISCERATING and VISCERAL. Personally I think Ridley just likes the sounds of the words, because he usually uses them out of context.
If you want a visual definition of VISCERAL think Hellraisers 1-4 (after that they get really lame), thats VISCERAL.

First post here, but I had to chime in. Mostly everything that has been posted here is THEORY. Ideally, we should only go off of the movies that the original writers/Scott had a hand in. I do not have any of the special editions/quadrilogy/etc. The first movie was just a movie called Alien. When it was written/produced, were there any plans to continue the series or go into the backstory of why the Derelict/Space Jockey/Xenomorphs were there? From what I remember of the first film (currently watching it as well), the Nostromo crew was awakened because MOTHER picked up a beacon, and the Nostromo was sent to investigate. In the production, the beacon was just gibberish created by a synthesizer. I highly doubt that there is a hidden message that we, the fans, can decipher. If it were a message from the Space Jockey, would it really be in English? Anything that happened in Aliens (and the further movies) has been retconned into the story.
ReplyRickPrometheus ForumBuilding better worlds.Jan 3, 2012
AE,
Everything organic that has a life cycle has genetic memory. We pass the color of our eyes onto our children, our inherited diseases, hairloss, speech impediments, etc. Inside our gene's we record our surroundings via radiation levels we live in everyday, the types of food we eat, etc. This all gets stored and passed on through suttle mutations, so what makes memory any different? Nothing. Science today can trace our origins back a millenia to a bottle neck that they think occurred around the time of the biblical flood.

I'd just like to think that *whatever* the eventual 'explanation' the writers and Ridley give us about the 'Spacejockey' race and it's backstory/motivations, that it's as interesting as some of the various speculations I've come across here and other boards.
While I can happily go with a story of how some other 'unknown race' somehow 'engineered' our own beginnings (and perhaps other 'races' too) in the first place, it may not be revealed how the 'Engineers' actually came about themselves!
Anyway, although this movie may suggest that this particular 'race' of 'Spacejockeys' had a big hand in our own 'development'...I'll personally be content that they themselves could have just 'naturally evolved' over aeons due to certain 'natural' conditions alone...with no 'original God' entity needed...
And just to get a little deeper yet, I'm someone who's happy to believe that the 'Universe' (or 'Multiverse?) around us is merely the product of some random, unknown, purely NATURALLY-occurring 'fluctuation' which caused it to come about in the first place...rather than something that came about thanks to an overwhelmingly 'supernatural' cause who's own 'origin' would be a little problematic to explain...
I'm just trying to enjoy what time I have on this rock until I'm eventually 'no more' and blissfully 'unaware' of the fact...and am really looking forward to this particular movie in the meantime, lol! :)

ReplyJeystonePrometheus ForumBio-Mechanical is it more than just a description of Geigers art?Jan 3, 2012
no..bio-mechanical in the Giger sense is different..Machines are generally slaves..they perform a useful function and can work endlessly, given there is a power supply. Bio-mechanical to me means a biological organism enslaved like a machine. The space jockey was fused to the chair..now they are trying to pretend it was a suit, but I believe the original intention was this thing was a living organism, enslaved/fused to the seat and lived to carry out its intended function..It is half alive/half machine..it's pretty twisted and sick, almost like trapped in body syndrome
The aliens however could move around freely, but they definitely had machine parts and the only purpose for their existence was to kill

Great points all around!
-quote from ArchEtech: "...if you could simulate every organ, neuron, cell or dare I say DNA, chromosomes etc with metal, self repairing microprocessors, and synthetic blood, would that "thing" be alive? Artificial Intelligence if we create it, is it alive? If the computer learns, and the "brain" feels does it not have a soul if it's made of silicone? Now take that to another level with a combination of both carbon and silicone, artificial and living, synthetic and organic fused together. Is that Bio-mechanical?"
Yes, I would agree with your proposed definition of biomechanical. And yes, I would consider that "thing" as living/alive. ...Blade Runner anyone? :-)
-quote from Snorkelbottom: "Wouldn't the Terminator, Robocop, Wolverine, Death's Head, Dr. Doom, Halo's Master Chief, Hector (Saturn V - Classic film) etc. etc. be classed as bio-mechanical."
IMO, Terminator, Robocop, and MC can be considered biomecanical (i.e. cyborgs). But I say "NO" for Wolverine and Dr. Doom. I believe Biomechanical should refer to biological and mechanical parts working together in a symbiotic relationship for continued life/function. Wolvie can live/function without the adamantium and (I believe) Doom can live without the suit of armor. However, the latest incarnation of Iron Man (in current comics, not the movies) can also be defined as "biomechanical" since he carries his suit inside his body in what can be described as a "liquid" form. He also seamlessly interfaces with his suit using only his mind. (Pretty cool stuff.)
Again this is all just my opinion and is not based on any kind of fact or definition. I don't think the term "biomecanical" specifically references a "slave-like" relationship. However, I can see why one would say that Giger's biomechanoids are salves.
