Not_my_intentionPrometheus ForumPrometheus Sequel set before Alien?Dec 27, 2011
na i did not like the new thing very much. i guess it wasn't BAD but it was not good either, it was just a crappier version of the 82 john carpenter film, and it looks terrible in comparison, CGI cant hold up to real puppets :) but its still kind of fun to watch

IMO there are no people floating about, just a few blown away when the sandstorm hits.
ReplyGigeresquePrometheus ForumBlast from the past. Dec 27, 2011
This is what I'm talking about @ 00:15. This guy is flying around. Is it just part of the production. I'm do confused.

No, it's from the new film..."Alien Levitation" !!!
LOL.

Replydb73Prometheus ForumSpace Jockey Scene 1979Dec 27, 2011
I always thought that the space jockey looked like John Merick (the elephant man) with something over it's face. This idea ties in with the humanoid space jockey hypothesis. You can see what looks almost like a bald head underneath what looks like a sort of large weird looking face hugger type thing. This scene also reminds us that whatever is in the chair fell foul of something bursting out of it. I'm speculating some sort of alien/Xeno, which was responsible for the hole in the floor that Kane found leading to the egg chamber. But if this is the case then it doesn't explain the purposefully placed laser thing covering the eggs. I'm loving all these ideas and speculation. Who knows what the film will actually bring. Very exciting.
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumDec 27, 2011
the firsts pic shows what looks like a acid burn victim...his skin is missing in some places....the second guy looks like his face is bubbling and their is something nasty and green beneath his chin.
Reply 1234567890Prometheus ForumDec 27, 2011
Yeah Juxt, but there are a lot of threads here and elsewhere speculating that it is the same person. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one who clearly saw this.
ReplyJuxtaposePrometheus ForumDec 27, 2011
...and looks like your not! ...i doubt it is the same guy....but I won't bet my life on it...i just looked at the trailer again...does the guy on the second pic have his helmet open in the front....can't really tell?.
..I am aware that their is other threads that hinted it's the same guy....I just never really agreed.
ReplywalterhillerPrometheus ForumDec 27, 2011
i came up with the same conclusion casually like a week ago. but like always, it was ignored in favor of more "space jockey is human" nonsense.
ReplyMentosPrometheus ForumDec 27, 2011
Hmm well spotted. I reckon it might be Ralf Spall. He was quoted a while back here saying: "Doing Prometheus was what you imagine being an actor is like when you're five. In a spacesuit, on another planet, getting killed by an alien".
I think it might be him. I remember reading a supposed leak of one Spaith's original scripts. It mentioned one of the crew getting killed in ample room (or in the same location as the ample room). In that script someone gets their leg ripped off; but that is by the by.
If we remember one of the original trailer leeks we see a creature jump from one member of the crew to another. I think something attacks Spall and then jumps for Holloway (Marshall Green).

good point and i agree to an extent. that's why i am aesthetically opposed to the kind of imaginings people seem to desire around here, ie "lets show the space jockey homeworld and also give the space jockey a mission to bomb earth with facehuggers"
did these people watch the same movie i did? alien without the s right? or maybe they came in after cameron. would explain a lot.
ReplyOzXPrometheus ForumTo know or not to know?Dec 27, 2011
Agree with you WH
SR is not James Cameron
and making it a prequel gives him the licence to tell it his way.
The Trailer looked very Action orientated (to help push the box office I'm sure). Hope it keeps the mystery alive.
Can you understand Giger? No. That's my point.
You can't understand nightmares completely.
Replydb73Prometheus ForumTo know or not to know?Dec 27, 2011
This is a very good point and something that has been troubling me a little. And the reason is that when we see Prometheus it will undoubtedly change the way we view the original Alien film. That mystery of the mysterious space jockey and the derelict most likely won't be much of a mystery anymore. Will this take away from Alien? It won't take away from the fact that it is such a brilliant film. But the mystery of the space jockey and derelict is vey compelling. This is going to get ruined I fear.
In Alien we learn from Ash that he and the company knew all about the derelict when the Nostromo was sent there. So this fact ties in very well with the possibilities of what we will see in Prometheus. The company knew about the derelict because of events in Prometheus. One big problem here is the timeline. The fossilised space jockey has clearly been there a long time. Does this point to a time travel event as suggested in the (hopefully) bogus synopsis that was floating around?
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumTo know or not to know?Dec 27, 2011
There are some things that i fear to know ..but just because ive fear that they turn to be lame ideas from Lindelof !!!
Regarding the Company or Androids im not very interested .. in Alien they serve well the story because were original and created a great plot twist ... repeating some things again (evil company , androids good or bad ) will be falling into cliches ,
ReplyGigeresquePrometheus ForumTo know or not to know?Dec 27, 2011
It will change the original, but you can never forget how you felt when you first saw it. Hopefully Prometheus will be the Alien for a new generation. Something the can enjoy and with enough left over questions to speculate about until another movie is made. That's the fun of Alien.
ReplyNineteenHundredPrometheus ForumQuestion: Ripley re Ridley?Dec 27, 2011
I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence.
1. The Signal - Originally thought to be an SOS, later confirmed to be a warning by Ripley. Warning signal suggest the Space Jockey's are benign, the Derelicts cargo suggests otherwise.
funny to say that in the italian version Ripley say that "sounded more as a menace " ... they had no idea how big that translation error would be ... anyway THAT space jockey could be more benign ..because is a special one ( ex crew maybe ? )
2. The Derelict - Obviously a crashed Space Jockey vessel. How and when did it crash?
i think we will find and answer to this
3. The Space Jockey - A huge, dead, bio-mechanical alien "fossilized" in his chair. Who is he, where is he from?
there will be surely an answer to this
4. The Hole In The Chest - The Space Jockey had a outward bursting hole in his chest, presumably after falling victim to a Facehugger. Where is the dead Facehugger, Where is the resulting Aliens discarded skin, where id the resulting Alien?
probable answer to this too ...
5. Hole In The Floor - To the right and slightly in front of the dead alien pilot is a acid-burnt hole leading to the egg chamber below. Did the Facehugger make the hole on the way up or did the Alien make the hole on the way down?
not answers for this imho ....but could be great to see that alien killed by someone at the end of prometheus :)
6. The Egg Chamber - Underneath the Derelict's "cockpit", seemingly the whole underside of the Derelict was filled with thousands, possibly millions of Alien eggs, purposefully protected by a layer of "laser-mist". Why was Derelict carrying so many eggs, where do the eggs come from, why was only one row protected by the "laser-mist".
i think we will find some sort of answer ..expecially regarding the meaning of lasers .
7. Order 937 - Synthetic replacement science officer Ash ....
Im not sure about this ...the order can leave space to many interpretations regarding the effective knowledge of the company about it ..and i think that this can be the only question that will remain not solved !
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumPrometheus' relationship to Alien.Dec 27, 2011
Personally I don't think anything in regards to the Alien itself will be answered, IMO Prometheus is NOT an Alien movie.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumPrometheus' relationship to Alien.Dec 27, 2011
But that's the whole thing of it...This is exactly what Ridley Wanted...If He does now, everyone or rather, many many fans of the franchise will be so frikking happy and if he doesn't answer any of those questions but the film is great no one will care and regard it as justification to keep the franchise going...either way...Scott wins.
Replykarthago36Prometheus ForumPrometheus' relationship to Alien.Dec 27, 2011
But in one interview Ridley say in the last moments of the movie we will see something, perhaps the falling of the ship where the space jockey is in,on LV426.

ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumPrometheus' relationship to Alien.Dec 27, 2011
And as I've stated many times here, IMO that is the only link to Alien we will see in Prometheus - the crashing Derelict.
ReplySpringsteadPrometheus ForumPrometheus' relationship to Alien.Dec 27, 2011
I believe there will be a lot more links to the Alien Franchise than anyone thinks. For starters all the set designs duplicate the Nostromo from alien, or should I say is influenced. This movie was originally going to be a prequel to Alien, and even though Ridley says this movie stands on it's own, this doesn't mean it will be a completely separate film, having zero to do with the Alien Franchise. @Snorkelbottom, I've seen your story board breakdowns... Very impressive, and basically spot on. My theory is this, the humans mutate into the Aliens, and the Engineers use us at some sort of experiment in perhaps creating the Aliens. I mean it makes the most sense and is the least lame theory I can think of. OR plain and simple... They were already created before we got there. SO... He's a clever director and I know this is something they have been talking about for years; so I have faith all these loos-ends will be answered.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumPrometheus' relationship to Alien.Dec 27, 2011
Snorky,
A viscous YELLOW liquid that so far all we have seen do is cause acid like pain on whoever it comes in contact with, are you kidding me, if that isn't a direct link to Both Alien & Aliens I do not know what is!
Not only will there be links, But I think ALL of the unanswered questions Frantz mentioned will most certainly be answered, and with some new twists and angles added to them.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumPrometheus' relationship to Alien.Dec 27, 2011
at the same time ya know I would be surprised Snorky if Ridley just blew his entire wad for this thing with the trailer, but also, you could be totally right, I mean the scene in the trailer has to be near or at the end of the film right?...or does it...?...
Truly no one is gonna know for another 6 months.
But there are things to be said for your angle on this and you could be 100% correct here!!!
Perhaps we will come out of this thing with More Questions than answers !!!
ReplySpringsteadPrometheus ForumPrometheus' relationship to Alien.Dec 27, 2011
Well also we do know that one of the crew members goes crazy, and it's the one that was exposed to the acid... or whatever boobytrap he got himself into.
ReplyarrgyPrometheus ForumPrometheus' relationship to Alien.Dec 27, 2011
One of the major themes of all the Alien movies, was the abuse of corporations, and the exploitation of the worker.
The main question that lies behind every one of the movies that was never answered is: how did the company know of the exsistance of the alien? To me, that is the core and only question that really needs to be answered. Everything else comes from it. That question is the link between Prometheus and Alien, and I believe that that is what Prometheus will answer.
I would not be surprised if we find that same signal that the Nostromo picked up, being in Prometheus.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumPrometheus' relationship to Alien.Dec 27, 2011
Never was a question for me,
We knew from the beginning that "the company" made a standard practice of having an android on board every single one of it's missions. Burke even mentions it in the mess hall in Aliens. They are made to serve the company's interests, 1st and always.

Hi db73,
The word Scott used was “eviscerate,” which means to remove the entrails from or disembowel a person or an animal. Basically, he’s saying that these “elements” could GUT the humans like a fisherman might clean a fish…with the greatest of ease.

I looked up the word after I heard him say it because he tends to be very specific with his wording. I'm taking this word literally from him. I think that the "bioformer" will gut someone's molecules and reprogram them. Speculation though.
ReplyNeurionPrometheus ForumInveserateDec 27, 2011
It could be brother...your guess is as good as mine. Although, he could've meant it metaphorically, like..."I let you win that last tennis match...I could've eviscerated you at any time!"
But...given the themes of this film...he at least means to kill.
