I have decided to wait for the "Alien Quintology" Box Set to come out before I answer this.
LOL.

All I can say is this reminds of that time in the 90's when pepsi decided to make pepsi clear, it's like "why?" Because it really was not that good. I really think that the original was so bizzare and xreepy that it was so fitting to when you saw direlect craft and espicially when you saw the space jockey. Thank god that it is nothing like how george lucus ruined episode 4-6 with all the new cgi crap notable the han and greedo confrontation. Everytime I watch it I almost feel like I flunke a test that studied hard for.

Going to be like a Alice in Wonderland expect it's going to be a scary ride down the hole and it ain't no rabbit hole.

I'm thinking it's going to be like Alice Gets Raped in Wonderland. Or some kind of subtext of rape or Freudian sexual trauma of some kind.
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
Yeah, I kinda get that feeling too with what Scott said. I mean, He did it in Alien with subtle subliminal scenes but I think in this one, he is not holding anything back from us and going to give it to us...
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
i think you can forget extreme or perverse things with Ridley Scott , its not a torture porn maker , hes a genius of a director and always with alot of taste ...also hes 74 so surely more interested in something else , more deep ... the flame inside us , faith , science , human beings ..not aliens raping crewmen .
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
I think Ridley is going to try to top the perverse nature of the first film. Age and ability as a director has nothing to do with it. He is to tell an interesting story and more than likely the story is going to be dark, disturbing, shocking and full of sexual perversions, Giger is obviously both a genius and getting up their in age and draws heavily on sexuality for his art. Giger's alien in it's very nature is perverse. Don't look for Ridley to shy away from that. If anything I think his age and reputation will allow him to get away with more.
ReplyXenotronPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
I'm not expecting torture porn either, but rather some kind of subtext. I'm having a hard time imagining what is meant by "do very perverse things"
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
there is centipiede 2 or Saw for disturbed kids ..you are talking of Sir Ridley Scott ...name me a sexual perverse scene in 30 years of career and i will agree ....i think is the director with less nudes on screen ...
and more , apart the jokes on the naked push ups , neither charlize theron , guy pearce , ben foster , idris elba , michael fassbender are actors for depraved movies
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
Underlying tones...things that we don't think about when you watch the film but when you get home your like, "did that just happen?". I don't think porn style but rather under tones in the film with the creatures and their designs and perhaps how some of the crew are killed or inhabited. and turned into something. Scott is now a veteran in film making and with Giger finally getting what he wants, we are def. going to see some new things that Scott prob wanted in the first Alien but never did.
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
I must admit I am not a Ridley Scott film historian but the Dr. Hannibal Lector character was very sexually perverse as was a lot of other characters in that movie. Scott didn't choose to not direct Hannibal because the characters were psychologically damaged and perverts so why would he now?
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
He always had some things that we re underlying tones. I guess he's older and more bold and maybe he wants to tick off the FOX CEO who pushed the film to a PG13 rating, lol.
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
..I dont this we will see anything porn wise but the creatures as designed by Giger have sexual designs within them..thats what we will see alot of and how the crew are changed perhaps...but it will be undertones of sexual like the scene in Alien when it killed Veronica Cartwright...but you don't think about it when you see it..it usually munsters in your head for days and weeks and then it hits you at three in the morning when you are sleeping..lol.

Funny that reminded me of when I first heard that an alien prequel was being made and then I heard it was definitely not an alien prequel. I assumed that some movie executive looked at the script and said " This doesn't go along with our AVP franchise at all, we can't do this. We will have someone rewrite it to fit." So Scott just said no it's not an Alien prequel don't worry about it and told a story of how anything alien related would be removed. Then went straight out with the money and did it his way an alien prequel. When he sees the executive he says oh well I spent the money and the film is made you can show and make a fortune or shelve it and look like a fool.
This probably didn't happen but I would like to think that was what all the prequel not a prequel foolishness was about.
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
I know..lol. Yeah, I have this feeling that Scott and the others are blowing smoke up our bottoms to make us think one thing and we get we want after all. Hence being all secretive and always changing the plot and never really setting anything in concrete...
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
I have been pondering the score to this film and I have this feeling that Trent Reznor is going to be involved...just a feeling but his dark tones and what not fit the premise of this film and I can see Scott chatting with him about the movie...
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
Is it strange that the composer has not been announced yet? I would have thought we would be hearing this by now since it is in post production. I mean it doesn't seem like it would be a secret who the person is just so the music doesn't get leaked before it's heard on screen. Reznor would be at the top of my list too but even big time directors have to deal with someone saying "No, can't do it, I have other commitments." We can be hopeful though.
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 8, 2011
Yeah, by now we would of heard of who is composing the score for this film but I am hoping that it will be someone we can appreciate and a score that is worth buying. I guess the post production will be going on for sometime, at least until the winter months. Being the Scott used alot of big sets and actual props, not alot of cgi expect for space and the creatures....we should see a trailer by the end of this month from my friends have said in New York.

Thanks you two! We were debating on using a black/grey gradient background instead of the comic con screen cap - to go with the "official" poster that was shown months ago, but we ended up going with the comic con. It's just a REAL piece of Prometheus, so we figured it would be best.
Glad you like the update. ;)

Your welcome Ghostface. Btw, I've always wondered about the streaks and graininess
of that picture - is some sort of dust storm going on? If so, the particles look like deadly shards of some material whipped up by ferocious winds. Curiously, it also looks like some kind of watermark overlaying the actual photo. What do you think?
ReplyChrisPrometheus ForumLike the new bannerOct 8, 2011
Who knows, it does look very interesting though. I compare it slightly to LV 426, with the way the dust is blowing around and the harsh winds, etc... But we also have our own gradient which lays overtop of the banner image for the site to add extra effect, but yes i know what you mean. This image is great because it doesn't explain very much, yet generates many questoins.

I love it! Or in the fine words of larry david: prettay, prettay, prettay good! I think that banner would make a great t shirt. Hint hint Ghost Face!

We've already spoke with Fox about merchandising clothing and ball caps, etc... but if we were to use the "PROMETHEUS" logo, it would not be allowed. We're still working on it though.
When it comes time for Prometheus' release, we will have more than enough cool stuff to give away, don't worry. All in time. But thank you again for the feedback!
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumLike the new bannerOct 8, 2011
Sweet! Should make a Prometheus Tee Shirt or Hooodies, with the Prometheus logo on front and on back "Building Better Worlds"...I would def buy that.
ReplyZetaReticuliPrometheus ForumPrometheus Grey Matter and CanistersOct 7, 2011
You know, the quality of the mindsets and speculation on here is superb and VERY thought provoking compared with places like IMDB. These latest posts are rife with intelligent, well thought out speculation and some of you here should be bloody script-writers, I tell you! Each week I visit Prometheus-related sites and I'm getting more and more drawn in buy some of the fascinating theories being put forward. Especially the ones about the cannisters. My only worry is that if this film has at least some of the theories stated here and is 'multi-layered' as some have suggested, then this will be a thinking person's sci-fi film and it has to have a suitable rating, otherwise we're going to get yawning, bored teens who've only come to see schlock and space-vampires and realsing this is not forthcoming may then resort to texting and throwing popcorn about. I hope to God my experience of this film will not be shattered by shallow morons who have no concept of a true cinematic experience like in the days of old.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumMercenary's and a Child Version Elizabeth Shaw in PrometheusOct 7, 2011
i also see that both the kid and one of the mercenaries are list as "uncredited" . If that is definitive that mean very brief apparences . I think the mercenaries can escort the scientists in africa ( maybe is a warzone ) but they will not be on the spaceship .
One of the mercenaries is credited but maybe because is also a stuntman in the movie ( his basic profession )

I can see activists against the company. It will be cool to see the inner workings of this company and how they operate...

Guess I've opened a can of worms here!
Regarding Predatordreads comment about different timestreams:
Prometheus is said to be set in about 2090, thirty years before Alien, how about the Bladerunner sequel moving 60 years into the future from 2019 to 2089 so its roughly the same time? I have an idea it could be based around replicants/androids and that could tie in with biomechanoids.
Regarding Frantz's comments on crossovers:
AVP had some good ideas I don't think it was as disastrous as everyone made out.
I know its heard to say how this could work as we don't know the full Prometheus story (or Bladerunner sequel's) I'm just having a bit of fun y'know!
ReplyXenotronPrometheus ForumCould A Prometheus Sequel Incorporate a Bladerunner Sequel?Oct 7, 2011
This thread made me consider a couple of things about this movie I hadn't considered before.
The first is that no one has discussed Ridley Scott's take on what earth looks like in 2090 even after he showed us what Los Angeles looks like in 2019. That thought alone makes me more excited to see what he'll come up with, given the fact that he practically invented the sci-fi urban sprawl aesthetic with Blade Runner, a template so many other films have been inspired by.
The second is that no one in the alien series has shown us what earth looks like. Ridley, ironically enough, gets to be the first.

Not in the first three films no. We do get a small glimpse in the alternate ending of Alien Resurrection, (can't believe i've just used Alien Resurrection as an example, forgive me!)

If you look carefully in the background as the Betty lands you can see the wrecage of a craft that looks awfully simular to the Sulaco. Better seen on the dvd & blu ray.

Some amazing Giger environs there. It would be good to think we see more of the Sj's homeworld other than the 'canister cave' with the big head.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 7, 2011
yes there must be some open or big environments ...they cant do a movie all in a cave and on a spaceship ... Ridley even in his more claustrophobic movies used fantastic views
The aliens worlds in Alien are stunning , and we were in 1979
the city landscapes and architecture in bladerunner is stunning
the middle east views in kingdom of heaven are fantastic
French landscapes in The Duellists made me move and live there
the dawn over the city of Rome in The Gladiator is awesome
Legend is an underrated movie with fantastic scenery
so i dont fear a dull and dark movie
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 7, 2011
From what I have heard, there is alot of work going on now in the post production phase with the SFX and what not, so we know that there will be some big things, some of which we saw briefly at comic con. Going to be nice and spooky!
ReplyMr.JPrometheus ForumAlien Homeworld - My Expectations (Pictures)Oct 7, 2011
Kind of like an Event Horizon setup but the crew will see real life nightmares rather than experience them psychology and I am betting this ship never comes back as well...going to be awesome, not foe the crew but us fans to see Scott's vision.
