DrexlspiveyPrometheus Forumi think i got the plot figured out.Oct 4, 2011
I like Rick's plot. Its got a bit of social commentary to it. We (humans) are the primary terraforming tool of the space jockey civilization. Once we develop the ability to decipher the directions to reach out to this ancient civilization it is likely we have altered earth's environment, as programmed, to fit the preferences of these engineers (global warming, CO2 emmisions, etc..). From their perspective, our work is then finished. The Xenomorphs are stage 2. they are our "off switch". Once contact is made, the Jockys will contaminate our race with xenomorphs which will efficiently exterminate human existence. The xenomorphs then cause their own extinction as they have been engineered to consume and reproduce until all food sources are vanished. The terraforming project is then complete and the Engineers (Jockeys) do what they wish with earth.
My guess is that things don't go to plan for the Space Jocks. That the title of the movie is a conceptual metaphor for the space Jocks. That these engineers have stolen the ability to create the human species from an even more ancient race that may in fact be be god. The "more terrifying creatures" in this movie are meant to punish the Jocks and humans will play some sort of role enabling this, possibly being transformed by the green goo in a way not intended by the jocks

Interesting different take on the idea Drexlspivey. I really like your idea. That the Space Jockey is just as much of a prey as we, humans are to whatever lies in the darkness.
The theories coming out of this thread are great! I wonder who will end up being the closest when the film is finally released!

@Neurion, My Gods space being so vast I only now got the invitation to the party! Absinthe....wow you do play hardcore. Makes me very conversational in the most memorable ways. As for your in depth description of your reaction to the various Alien films, to sum Alien 3 up succinctly, I put my popcorn away after the opening credits. I just lost my appetite after watching Newt and Hicks demise. The autopsy was the final straw, that left me cold, and uncaring. The tea stained appearance of the film put the entire visual experience into a squinting and looking into corners perspective. Like you, nothing equalled the novelty of the first film. It didn't sacrifice anything in order to generate those chills, and I wasn't tabulating a running body count. Well, enough said about spilt milk, or was that android bionanetic suspension? Let's just hope that Prometheus is more than any of us could have hoped for shall we..

Besides all debate: I´ve seen the prequel, which is on youtube for months

So, as it turns out the review of the Prometheus trailer we posted yesterday was in fact a review of the OFFICIAL Prometheus trailer by Fox. We've had to since remove the original post due to Fox's requests. But for those who got to read it, it certainly looks promising and only increases the chances for a trailer to appear this month. Looks like it will be happening after all.
A special thanks to Chris who exclusively brought the find to Prometheus-Movie.com. We greatly appreciate the efforts made but at the same time, we hope he does not get into trouble.

^ I can't stand that trailer - the ships are totally cheesy and I'd rather not see a fake one at all. I like the Youtube trailers that feature the comic-con photos much better.

im reading everywhere that no one like the new signal sound . I think they will be quite stupid to use it in the movie . Btw is also true that the old signal is good ( and scary ) for a few seconds ..it sound too much "human" ,imo.

noeon5678 Difficult. The trailer had cuts of fades from scene to scene. It didn't say anything about being a prequel either
Quote
@noeon5678 there were no Giger aliens in at all. If you were quick, you could see the space jockey from the wrecked ship.
Quote
@noeon5678 however, looked like a cleaner version of that future but had that Ridley Scott feel written all over it.

The trailer exists, people have seen it.
The general consensus is that it may well come out with "The Thing" remake on the 17th Oct.
Here's hoping !!!!!!

ReplytarPrometheus ForumPrometheus Grey Matter and CanistersOct 2, 2011
All I can really offer at the moment is speculation, but, that does seem to be all we do anyway ( Haha)! The first thing that I thought was if the Space Jockeys were in fact the owners of the "Grey Matter" and use it to develop new forms of life like the Zenomorph or maybe even at one time, ourselves? That would explain Ridleys hints about the film asking us questions about where we come from.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumPrometheus Grey Matter and CanistersOct 2, 2011
The Alien life form have little in common with humans ( except the shape ) but its more like an animal or an insect . Its surely not a crossbreed between two very intelligent life forms . that said i think that the canisters , eggs , grey/green matter have a pivotal place in the plot ( thats what the footage suggest , however it can be misleading and part of ridley "smoke in your face" campaign ).
I dont think there will be something like a crew mutation since it was a bit abused in the movies lately ( district 9 ) .
ReplyRickPrometheus ForumPrometheus Grey Matter and CanistersOct 2, 2011
Frantz,
I have to disagree. Giger incorporated a human skull into the skull of the Xeno. Not to mention bipedal locomotion (amongst mammals) with natural symmetry is something that is rare in nature. Plus opposing thumbs even though it had 5 fingers. Knee joint, elbows, wrists, neck, ankles, shoulders, and waist can not all be simply coincidence.
What if the the grey matter is nanite suspension. I mean Giger likes to combine biological with mechanical, so keeping with Gigers theme Nano technology would be key to altering DNA, and Alien DNA is supposed to be key to the movie. That is the only way I see it being possible to convert humans.
Regards,
Rick
See Below ( http://www.ask.com/wiki/DNA)
DNA nanotechnology uses the unique molecular recognition properties of DNA and other nucleic acids to create self-assembling branched DNA complexes with useful properties.[133] DNA is thus used as a structural material rather than as a carrier of biological information. This has led to the creation of two-dimensional periodic lattices (both tile-based as well as using the "DNA origami" method) as well as three-dimensional structures in the shapes of polyhedra.[134] Nanomechanical devices and algorithmic self-assembly have also been demonstrated,[135] and these DNA structures have been used to template the arrangement of other molecules such as gold nanoparticles and streptavidin proteins.[136]

Rick I'm waiting to see if that skull has any significance! It should be interesting. I really hope the grey matter is used as a sort of Genetic mutagen, I think that aspect would really add an origina edge to the plot.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumPrometheus Grey Matter and CanistersOct 2, 2011
In Spaiths version of the script, The Growers were something I thought of as I read it as the Space Jockey's themselves.
They were the ones that sent the Space Jockey to LV-426 to begin with IMO.
That said, it is entirely plausible that the Growers have been using the canisters, to harvest the creatures to assist with Controlled Terra Forming.
This was the impression I got from that script to begin with.
Juts an observation, I may be entirely wrong but it sure looks like I'm not from what all of you said.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumPrometheus Grey Matter and CanistersOct 2, 2011
maybe is just the crew that THINK to find the answer to life on earth but instead they find and almost dead biomechanical civilization that want to wipe out life from the galaxy ( abit like the necrons in wh40k )..maybe in the urns there is the DNA of ancient civilizations offered to the "gods" after they were wiped out .
ReplyChrisPrometheus ForumPrometheus Grey Matter and CanistersOct 2, 2011
These are all very great ideas everyone! I especially like Rick's take on the "matter" where he said:
What if the the grey matter is nanite suspension. VERY good theory Rick. I like how you tied it in with the vague synopsises released by FOX - whatever they did give us to work with, regarding the DNA aspect.
I also especially like your take Frantz, about how the jars contain the genetic code of previous species which had been wiped out. Very imaginative!
It would be interesting to find out if this was the case; that these jars are a form of storage of life - keys to unlocking life itself. It does tie in with the general focus for the film, so I don't see why not.
I have to say though, I don't doubt for a minute that we could be "off" in our assumptions. I think we will be very surprised how much we "guessed" that will turn out to be accurate come time for Prometheus' release. I'm curious to hear what other theories lie out there in the minds of our fans! Keep posting your thoughts!

I can't wait to see what happens!
I assume some sort of sabotage will take place on the ship.
Group of scientists - fantastic discovery - Now who to test it on?
I'll place a bet one of the crew infects another to discover the properties of the Green Goo/Grey matter.

If the film is to be completely original, and not just rehashing the politics, and devious nature of the human species we would not see any of the predictable plot possibilities. Imagine what happens to a species that has travelled the stars, perfected medical science to the point that immortality and physical perfection are mere options rather than dreams. A species that has tinkered with the evolution of countless evolving lifeforms on different worlds. Lacking our limited mentality they did not suffer from greed, boredom, or avarice. They advanced past thinking of wars and conquest, and abandonned further exploration because a cultural ennui settled upon them. Having done everything imaginable they turned inwards. Death being the last unexplored territory left to them, the xenomorph or something similar being the ultimate tool for enabling an entire species to just vanish. Flash forward to a small group of explorers from Earth, finding the remnants of this civilization, who can say what the state of decay might be, or if there are any remaining examples of this godlike race left alive. One can only imagine what this being would think of us. This race just setting it's feet upon a path it's own kind had travelled for eons. It could range from the tender nurturing behavior of a true Gaia, to a much darker jealousy that it has reached the end of the line for an entire culture. It would be hard to surrender the cradle of life to another when you come from a race that has lain in it for so very, very long. So it matters not if it is by design, or by accident that this terror is unleased. All that matters is how we deal with it.

That was some funny shit, I commend your knightly joust! It's just like that hidden scene in Alien where after the alien hits the box with the cat in it, then opens it and hugs Ripleys pussy! What to you call space men who have lost their minds? Astronuts! What came first the Xeno or the Egg? The egg cause I didn't say Xeno egg!
