Ha ha the fun of reading a Readers Wives when you was younger and finding the Wives Section had someone who you knew....   but not the way to remember a Friends Mother lol

I think with Giger its very Surreal, so its a Grey Area but most Alien Franchise Fans love the Giger Aesthetic and his Art-work... while another Sections of Fans just love Ripley and Powerloaders lol

Thanks for the Get Well Wishes..... i have TWO Weddings to attend the Weekend and so i have come off the Meds, as i cant be a Zombie Saturday and Sunday....  But Drs want me to stick to them for a Month before they will consider other options...  Oh well its stick to Meds that are not fixing none of the Problems but cause more then lol

Oh as far as the 6 Movies, indeed RS had said he planned to do 2-3 more Prequels before he announced Alien Covenant and after Alien Covenant was announced he said they will do 1-2 more before they get to the Rear End of Alien... But then he also said they could make another 5-6 Alien movies.

His comments about how you could digitally De-age Miss Weaver are maybe a hint he could be tempted to TAKE HIS BABY..... Which is 1979 ALIEN throw in 2-3 Prequels set after Prometheus but before Alien, and then maybe tempted to throw in his own 2-3 Sequels to Alien or maybe Aliens... This is what i think he could be intending and i think FOX may indeed feel Ripley and Xenomorphs is what the Franchise is about and not Creation, Androids and Engineers.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumFOX Planning NEW Alien Franchise After Alien: Covenant Fallout

Indeed i think they need to be careful...

A Reboot i feel would be bad.... even if its RS doing a different Alien Sequel as if Aliens on wards did not exist, the same way Blomkamps Alien 5 was to do with Alien 3 and Alien R

IMO if they do a movie after the Prequels, they would be better off having it as a Parallel story to Aliens ==> Alien R, the Franchise seemed to be about Ripley, and the Xenomorph that seemed to only originate from the Derelict and after Hadleys Hope was Destroyed there was no more Xenomorph apart from the Eggs that got onto the Sulaco.

But the Prequels have gave us the route that their could be a number of different related Xenomorphs and other creations from the Black Goo... so there is something to explore there.

But i think FOX feel the Movies have to mainly be about the XENOMORPH i just dont think they have the Balls to try something different, because they did so with Prometheus and that never did was well as Planned.... so Alien Covenant has done worse...  I do worry FOX now feel maybe its because it relied on David and Engineers and Prometheus still... and not Alien and Ripley and the Queen etc.

If they go the route of a sequel and have Ripley back, then i think potentially it could SUCK especially visually as lets say they do a Movie with Ripley in it, and make it within 5 years

while Miss Weaver looks good for 67... its likely she would be 70+ by the time they Shoot a Movie with her in it, within the Alien Franchise and i cant see how they can make a 70 year old Miss Weaver look in her 30's

So the only route would be a Blomkamps and Pitch a Aliens Sequel that takes out Alien 3 and Alien R as Canon, and is set some 30+ years after Aliens and not the 20 that Blomkamp intended.  And so set it in the year 2210... or even 2222 and so 100 years after Alien i think 2205-2210 be better but 2222 could work if we assume Ripley spends some time in Cryo-sleep as remember in Aliens she was afloat in Space for over 50 years and looked like she had not really Aged.

But i would hope they have something more Original in store, but i Fear FOX will cave in and think the Franchise needs the Queen and Ripley.

dkAlien: Covenant Forumart vs porn. Giger created a gray area but how do we deal with it here?

Batchpool Thanks for weighing in! I am a HUGE Dead Kennedys fan- dk- get it? Penis Landscape was a poster included with the LP and even the later CD. It is one of the biggest reasons for the Tipper Sticker and almost destroyed the band.

I remeber the days of "harmful" matter being obscured with "descrete" packaging or being stocked in that small room with a curtain and sign saying Adults Only- it seemed to smell a bit off around there too as I recall.

The problem now- and maybe the problem is imagined- is that those restrictions really don't exist anymore. Parents can do what they will, but there is a way if there is a will.

I seek input on what is regarded as art or porn ON THIS FORUM specifically.

I think I know the answer, but the problem is that there is no ESTABLISHED WRITTEN STANDARD to go by.

In the case of Giger’s artwork this is a tested area.

Do you mean un tested? If not please cite where it is tested

Ripley did not ruin the franchise imo. She was a fantastic protagonist throughout all the four original films. What would have ruined the franchise though is Neil's fanfic.

Thank you BigDave :-) The one part I don't agree about is the sexual innuendo with David's character. Remember Ash from the first Alien with Ripley and the rolled up magazine? The creature is phallic and represents rape. Giger's artwork too is very sexual. Sex has a place in the Alien franchise.

BatchpoolAlien: Covenant Forumart vs porn. Giger created a gray area but how do we deal with it here?

Back in the day when people used to get most of their pornographic images from the sex shop, items such as magazines would be put in a plain paper bag. Top shelf soft core porn that was available in local newsagents would have images censored by price tags. I refer here mainly to the UK public decency laws. An image which can be deemed to be of a pornographic nature has to be subject to some form of censorship. The key to this is about accessibility to the material in question. You Tube has a user account censorship filter. Only when I am logged into my You Tube account, am I permitted to view censored material. I think that is the way to go imo. That way there is no grey area.

In the case of Giger’s artwork this is a tested area.

I will leave a link which refers to the use of Giger’s artwork by the Dead Kennedy’s, which resulted in the Frankenchrist and obscenity trial (1985-1986)

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumIMDB switches Covenant original poster for video home release poster

It would be a bit misleading especially if people followed Prometheus and what the Black Goo did in that movie.

It could have lead people to think  The Bombardment leads to some Xenomorph Related Organisms that go around killing off the Engineers.

either as a direct result of the Bombardment, or more Engineers being attacked by after the initial Bombardment or that this event happened prior to the Bombardment.

It seemed to imply various Xenomorph related Organisms in a Struggle against the Engineers and could be interpreted as a kind of Punishment being cast down on the Engineers.

Which is something that apparently the idea for Prometheus 2 would touch upon, before FOX Felt it needed to be a more Alieny movie.

Its a very ambiguous relief i will agree at that and it could be intended as no more than this... but it still could be interpreted by some to then expect something like this..  When there was no Signs of any Xenomorph related Attacks on Engineers.

The Prometheus Mural was also vague, and some rumors were that it too was just a Easter Egg that was not meant to draw any connections to Prometheus... but the Alien in that Mural did look a lot like the Deacon at the end of Prometheus, so maybe it was intended to connect?

Regardless it allowed many fans to speculate how it could connect to Prometheus...

The Alien Covenant Poster  however does not seem to connect to the movie, but it maybe could be if the Engineers had encountered the Xenomorph in the past.... or if its something that will happen in the future.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumWhy do we care about a movie's bottom line?

I can see what Joylitt means as the money thats made $$$$ and how well the movies get rated do effect the potential for investing to make more Movies in the same Franchise.

I understand the OP as far as how a movie is rated or how much it makes $$$$$ does not effect how each individual person enjoys the said Movie.

Avatar and Gravity got Rave reviews but i could not watch them no further than i could AVPR... but i did give AVPR a 3rd try a few months back and saw it all the way through lol

Maybe i need to do the same for Avatar and Gravity... but i just never found either appealing...  Some people did not like Chappie but i found it not to bad...  mind you did not see point in Miss Weaver lol but i have for some reason the last 10 years just become less and less a Miss Weaver Fan myself.

@MonsterZero

That all sounds AWESOME! I love David's slow descent into madness and him seeing the ghosts of Weyland and Shaw. I would love to hear the backstory on that half-synth character!

...Can you please write this into a fan fiction???

One question...target demographic 30-60 male? Very interesting. Do you think the series typically appeals more to males? I am curious as to whether there's a gender specific distribution and if so what causes it, especially since the series tends to have female leads.

There are...eight females in my social circle who are big fans of the Alien series (including my sister and myself). Do you think my own anecdotal experience is not representative of the norm?

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumDid David ruin Alien Covenant?

I can understand some are not happy with a view things about the David Character, the Homo-Erotic tones did wind a few up, that lead to a number of Posts on here really bashing him.

I say he was just Sexually curious, but some of the Innuendo belonged to Movies like the Carry on Movies or the Monty Python ones.   And not really a Alien Franchise movie that was intended to Scare us.

But i think he did a decent job, sometimes you are limited by the Script that you are given and AC did also suffer from trying to cover too much within 2 hours and so the movie suffered a bit from not having another 10-15 minutes about Davids Character.

As far as Dr Shaw, she did get a  lot of stick from fans a number was not pleased with her Character, but i know Noomi Rappace can perform very well and given a Arc to her Character from the events of Prometheus, they could have had the traumatic events change her and Noomi could have played a more disturbed Dr Shaw as opposed to a bit Naive Character.

FOX and RS had sat down and taken note of a few criticisms with Prometheus and felt that indeed following a movie that was basically be like the Crossing Prologue only about at least a hours worth of this with some interaction with Engineers or other beings  would not maybe impress a majority of fans.

FOX felt the Franchise needed the Xenomorph back, and Eggs, Face Huggers and Big Chap... the only things it was missing was the Queen... I do hope FOX now dont think David is a bad Character and give him the Dr Shaw Treatment and then give us Queen and Ripley.. that would be a Sad and Bad Move.

You see Ridley Scott was very impressed with the David Character, and felt there was a Story to be told there about his development and RS is also a fan of Fassbender, who's performance in Prometheus was excellent dare i say maybe one of the best Performances in a Alien Movie.

Yeah i know David creating the Xenomorph may upset some, but RS is looking at the BIG THEME here... this is Creation, and Rebellion by Creation and Hubris in Creation.

A tale of Creator creates, then Creation sees itself as not having to serve the Creator and strives to overthrow its creator, and then in turn wishes to sub-create themselves and then Repeat the Process....  a constant creation/rebellion/sub-create/rebellion theme.

We have THESE Godlike wanna be Kings the Engineers, who played a Role in Creation of Mankind and other Humanoids (it would be interesting to see what layers of Hierarchy are above these beings as it could be they also rebelled against their creators too.

So these beings play a Massive Role in Mankinds Creation and Evolution and then at some point they are upset with us, they see we are a Race who are not as subservient to them as they liked, they would Fear that the potential for rebellious nature could rise.. maybe because they had done so to their Creators/Hierarchy.

So they decide to DESTROY is by Creating or experimenting with the Black Goo..... a TOOL they may have modified in order to DESTROY their Wayward CHILDREN but this Back Fires on them.....

Why they never came back who knows... Maybe if they decided to Abandon us as the attempt to destroy us proved costly so they would leave us to ROT...

Their Hubris comes from their Arrogance of their Superiority where they would ASSUME without the Engineers Help, Mankind 2000 years ago would NEVER Evolve to have Technology to Reach the Stars.

A Great Hubris for them is that Mankind not only evolved to reach the Stars but also Sub-Created its own Creation the Androids and One of these (David 8) is able to use the Engineers Technology, understand their ways and writings and not be effected by the Deadly Weapon the Engineers had intended on us, but backfired.... It was a Weapon they could not control.

But David could, and he takes a Ship of their Bio-Weapons and Unleashes HELL on those Engineers, thus having it that the Engineers Creations, own Creation is able to Master the Engineers Deadly weapon intended to destroy their own creation.. And Its via the Engineers Hubris over how naive they are to think Mankind Alone can not Advance and Create such things as David.... This has Proved the Engineers undoing.

But then this Hubris is a Large one for Mankind, as David is rebellious he does not see Humans as superior but in-superior and not Worthy of Existence.... and so Mankind playing GOD (Weyland) in Creating Life in David, has proven to had sealed its own Downfall as David  now Turns on his Creators and he is able to Turn the Horrid Bio-Weapon the Engineers Created but could not Control.. into something FAR MORE Deadly..

I think this is a very interesting Curve-Ball and i am sure RS reasons for having David create the Xenomorph is the same as i highlighted above.

The Question then comes.... Does David Eventually Fall to the Same Hubris of his creators and then our creators too (The Engineers) does Davids Creation prove his Downfall in the End?

I do not see why it's so hard to believe. David is 'perfection'. He was humanity's best product and the Alien is a biomechanoid which insinuates that he was created/manufactured. David reminds me of Giger a little in that he dreamed this creature into existence. He wanted to create. Engineers created humans, humans create synths. The Engineers saw that humanity lost their way and became monsters but little did they know that they created an even worse monster, David. David creates death incarnate and the universe will know it's wrath. It's poetic. I also don't see how it's origins cheapens how scary the monster is. A monster is a monster no matter how you look at it. A planet of Xenos wouldn't make sense beacuse how would that ecosystem work? The Xeno would destroy it. The Engineers did have a hand in the Xeno through the Deacon, as shown in Prometheus through the murals. David simply reverse engineered their product and perfected it. It's still not in the state we see it in Alien but it is getting there.

An android creating the synth makes sense, especially David. Remember how awestruck Ash, Bishop, and Call were with the Xeno? That's only cuz something so complex can only be done by a fellow synthetic. Prometheus was always David's movie, not Shaw's. Humans acted callously and treated David like he was nothing more than a tool. Weyland ad humanity was obsessed with finding their creators and in turn infected David. I like the Xeno's origin as it is filled with madness, chaos, and uncertainty.

in the context of the A L I E N franchise it is a definitely a grey area given that the franchises main antagonist was inspired by a pseudo-sexual artwork with a purposefully phallic-shaped head that runs around penetrating people with an equally phallic-shaped second mouth lol.

Then there is the facehuggers.......!!!

Given the reoccurring violent and sexual themes of the franchise it is damn hard to find where to draw the line.

Interesting topic to debate

The 2nd and 3rd images are interesting if they went the route that the Colonist find Origae-6 and find out it appears to have been inhabited a Long Long Time ago... but there is no signs of Civilization now...  It would be kind of interesting if we find out this is because Origae-6 was one of the Worlds the Engineers had successfully eradicated Life on... for what ever reason they may have for doing this.

Edit....

I dont mean 3rd image as far as finding a Robot who then wants to have it away with any females it finds lol

But then with the first image and the Bald Female... i think this could work if the Covenant discover only ONE Survivor a Female Engineer.  That would be interesting.

Reply
BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumVisual Ideas for Future Alien Movies

I think on of those images is maybe a Davids Dream..... after Dr Shaw rejected him because he was a Robot.... so he thought to himself... i'm only a Robot... well this is what i'm thinking lol

some nice concept works here, and Art..

I do wonder if we will see a Giger Type Atheistic from the Engineers should they return and eventually indeed seeing a Armada of sorts of Bio-Tech Ships like the First Image would be interesting.

But i cant see this fitting with the Franchise... not as far as a Armada of Engineer Ships who are Hell-bent on Mankinds destruction or even a Mild Beef with us.... because showing a Large Scale Engineers with knowledge of how Mankind Turned out and the events from Prometheus on-wards, does leave a bit of a Plot Hole well Continuity error as far as the Franchise.. because we have to ask how come Mankind is still around at the time of Aliens in 2179 never-mind much latter in Alien Resurrection.

Mind you RS can choose to Reboot the Franchise after Alien, and so if the Engineers never had any knowledge or problems with us at the time of 2104 but they do after they discover what David has done and the result of this leads to death for them and the Derelict a few years latter in Alien.

A Reboot of Aliens could show Aliens replaced by another attempt by the Engineers put a stop to Mankind... and thus RS comment about War of the Worlds... But i dont think FOX will Reboot Aliens etc...

You are right, but the two films were too close to each other, in Assassin he had to have that extra body and it was impossible for him to lose weight for Covenant.

Ati, Obviously Fassbender will not be the same body shape as 5 years ago when they filmed Prometheus, but I think it was a bit of an oversight. David8 looked alot thinner/fragile in Prometheus and in Alien:Covenant he was more solid/muscle/thicker.

They could have asked Fassbender to lose more weight so he would look more similar to his look in Prometheus. Michael Fassbender dropped alot of weight for his breakthrough role of Bobby Sands in 'Hunger', so he's no stranger to doing this.
