@dk If you're talking about the second one from Luis Royo, then that's the one that hits my eye as well. Very Organic and Cubist...

JonesRules Thanks for the input. Perhaps I am dating myself, but I rented the VHS Pitch Black back in the day. I never heard of it but I loved it (still do). I still haven't checked reviews about it since no reviews can change my mind about it.

dk my enjoyment is never affected by the box office numbers, I just know that if the movie tanks (by industry standards), though being a film that I personally enjoy, and it is a part of a franchise (that I also happen to enjoy), then the franchise may not continue. That is just to answer your question - no, essentially I do not care for the bottom line, and probably no viewer should (at least not to the point that it overshadows viewing experience), but I may glance at the box office stats with a corner of my eye, because I want see franchise continue, and because I want the movie I enjoy to kick the box office ass )

"Negative feedback"

I would call it something else similar to an after action review:

3 sustains and 3 improves

Just my opinion

VivisectedEngineer Yes, I would bring David back in some form, but he wouldn't be at the top of the food chain. I find the good android/bad android dynamic to be a little bit cheap (that is only my personal taste), so I would avoid that. For the poster, I would give the designer something like this to start with:

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant ForumCollider says no more David in future Alien movies

They could keep David but give him less of a role, I would like that. Their focus on AI is too much and not as interesting as Ridley seems to think that it should be.

Keep the focus on humans and build relatable human characters. They need to be different from one another and they must have distinct human characters and not be archetypes (that is they must have more than two traits).

I like the poster where it looks like an army of Xenos are attacking the Engineer culture but unfortunately that doesn't represent very much of what happened in the movie. In Alien Covenant David bombed the Engineer with the black goo and the movie is mostly about him so they should have had David in the poster maybe from the ship looking down on the Engineers before he destroys their home, that would be more truthful compare to how the movie turned out. AC is like an AI story which is unfortunate to some extent.

Don't worry dk you won't have to lock this thread, I am out of here and done with Voldemort, shit I said his name. Get this thread back on track please. Where is my backup when I need it.

How was the poster misleading?? An abstract relief of people being attacked by xenomorphs...Sounds like the movie to me. It is obviously not a scene from the movie unless you thought the movie was entirely on a stone wall and depicts the characters as reliefs, now then it was misleading. It's an abstract representation of what you will see showcasing that the Xenomorphs were back. If anything it was spoilery and not misleading. Just because there was more than 2 Xenos? Is that why it's misleading?

Dr. Curt Connors - First I thought you are talking to colonialphallicjoylittsoldierjaw... :)

Seriously, I think you do not realise that your negative comments and your fight against the success of the movie means way much bigger advertising power and financial income for Fox than my nice comments. :)

That is the sad (for you) truth. :)

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant ForumAm I the only one who likes the 2 prequels, Alien 3 and thinks Aliens is overrated?

Alien 3 is my favorite of all Alien movies (there, I said it). It is something about the feeling about it that I like. One thing that is interesting is that they are there for disgusting crimes and still you feel some sort of sympathy for them when they are getting killed.

Alien Covenant is alright but Prometheus is a disappointment.

Reply

It doesn't matter if they make this one if the home release of AC will be as disappointing as the one that was showed in the movie theaters. They should think before they do the movie, not after when it is too late, new short promo clips will not change how the movie turned out.

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant ForumNo More David? Collider Mark Reilly Wants David Again

David as a character is alright but they give the artificial intelligence too much of a focus in the prequels. Yes there were AI’s in it before but they weren’t the main focus. I like the difference between David and Walter but they should focus on the monsters and the human characters. Another movie with the main focus being David would be boring since it was too much in Covenant. I do not want another movie with the AI’s being the main focus, I totally agree with Joylitt here.

Having the Alien movies as survival movies could be interesting like the guy in the red t-shirt said in the collider video (3:12 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fR7n5NT72ak). I would rather have that than the Prometheus connected ideas (gods, creation, and so on). Simply put: if I would look for a movie with themes like that I would look for something else, not something that is tied to Alien. The themes are interesting but they are difficult to execute well in an alien movie and make them interesting. A survival movie could have the tense atmosphere that Alien had, which I would like.

They shouldn’t have David being the creator of the Xeno, that would be stupid. He already has too much of an importance in AC and Prometheus. Having more believable main characters is a must. Better human characters and to keep the focus on them should be a start.

I have a serious question: why is it that they have failed with the human characters three movies in a row (not counting the AvP’s)? Alien 1-3 got it right but after that it sort of went to shit.

Xenos should be kept in the dark. It shouldn’t be like AC, Aliens, or Prometheus.

In case they are wondering about the Engineers they could work like a war like culture aiming at taking over other civilizations like an army war like culture. To create one must first destroy but tie them closer to the Xeno. Make them war like, determined, and brutal because that could be interesting to me at least. Ave subtitles to things that are important and don’t make it too ambiguous like in Prometheus.

Please no Ripley, she has had her time.

KetholAlien: Covenant ForumThere is no way David could escape from Walter

@ ali81

I agree. With everything else going on in the movie, I did not notice this problem the first time I saw it, and Ridley expected that which is why he thought the cheat would be OK. It CLEARLY stood out the second time though, and will every time I see it now.

Regardless of what Ridley said, it is impossible for it to be David in David's body based on what was shown in the movie. All the evidence (no chin scar, clothing, face scar) point to this being Walter's body with David's mind, so if or until something in a future movie contradicts it, that's what I am going with.

AtiAlien: Covenant ForumFOX Planning NEW Alien Franchise After Alien: Covenant Fallout

Yes, it's true, the 6-film-plan was mentioned some months ago, if I remember well, it was discussed in the scified news section as well, but not all of them were named as prequels - some members said some of them can be spin-offs or direct sequels to Alien: Alien 2 and Alien 3 without Ripley. Ahh, those movies would be huge!

@joylitt

I really like your poster idea. I can totally picture that. That would be very good.

Would you keep David in the movie at all? Would you follow up on what happened to Walter?

Interesting idea about the A.I... Why do you think all A.I. need to be either good or bad? We have good and bad people, and A.I. are replicas of people so why couldn't we have good and bad A.I.?

@Dr. Curt Connors

Of course everybody likes you!

Every story needs a good antagonist, and a person never loves a thing more than when they're defending it (That goes for both sides, Dr. Curt Connors. You are defending the franchise the way you see fit, and we defend Covenant the way we see fit.

We both do so out of love for the Fandom. That makes us respectable adversaries, no?)

Plus, you gave me birthday well-wishes and complimented my cake, so of course I can't feel any genuine antipathy towards you.

But...never the less, my frenemy,...please do picture my "you have my sympathies" line in Ash's voice. :)

sherrisAlien: Covenant ForumRationalization of Alien series of movies (10 points)

I would like Fox to do a small media event on the release of BR A:C. Perhaps explaining the newly found properties in the Pathogen. They did it on the Prometheus BR but we need a more in depth look at it. Explaining the variations and if it is different pathogens or is it one and the same but causes almost random effects on the host.

Or is it purely down to the dose ?

Getting rained on leaves charred remains. Transmission to female via sex = alien "baby"

We agree on the fact that there are 3 or 4 types of Engineers we have seen so far. However you keep mentioning the lack of weapons and warring technology down to a lack of side arms and knives.

We have to ask WHY ?

The only thing that i am reasonably happy with, although not entirely, is that The Engineers have been doing this for possibly millions of years and have travelled galaxies and in that time perhaps they have never came across Warring beings with the ability to fly in space.

Perhaps if Planet 4 turns out to be just another seeded world that they watched over. We see that there is a total lack of technology. Perhaps these beings are not even as advanced to use glass in their windows ? Regardless we can see their lack of advancement.

Perhaps if Engineers have spanned the galaxies and seeded worlds - they keep those beings at a certain level. Or offer very slow progression. This would mean that the seeded worlds could never gain the technology required that would make them a threat to the Engineers.

So if that stands true, none of the seeded worlds are a threat if properly controlled. Perhaps advancements would come with a treatment of Black Goo and the slate wiped clean for the next generation. This time reminded of how things go when you ignore the rules.

This keeps the Engineers safe from seeded worlds. Now the only other reasons that i can think of that can explain the lack of fire power on the Engineers Jugganauts, is that they have never came across an advanced species with the power of space travel.

Earth spaceships do not have weapons. Well i never heard of it. So like i said earlier: There are no advanced species that are a threat in space to the Engineers.

You struggle with this due to the vastness of space. Also you mention AVP however, AVP is not canon. I can see your point and i do struggle with this myself but i cant find a more reasonable answer than this.

Even if the Engineers wiped out any advanced species you would think there is a possibility a warring space nation would be overlooked. But then we still have the fact that the Engineers dont seem big on Defence or Attack.

What do you think on this ????

Yes Nolan is the master! Have you seen Dunkirk? I don't really read reviews for movies anymore, once in a great while, but I saw a quote from a critic saying Dunkirk is just as scary and horror filled than almost any horror movie, I agree with this cause it is the stakes that make it so. Yes Dunkirk is based on actual events and that is different from the Alien franchise but my heart was pounding during parts of Dunkirk, it's so intense and real. You can do that for these movies, it's hard for me to remember but I'm sure I felt similar to this the first time I saw Alien, Aliens and Alien 3. You gotta care about characters before you can worry about what is going to happen to them. I never felt that way during Prometheus or Covenant or any Alien movie since Alien 3.

peterweylandAlien: Covenant ForumThere is no way David could escape from Walter

I think one thing that is not being taken into account is the fact that David could have stored a copy of himself into Walter immediately after he disabled him with the flute. We don't know how much time took place between that scene and David attacking Daniels. I firmly believe it is David in Walter's body via transfer of some sort while Walter was disabled. Making a copy of himself planted in Walter is brilliant just in case his plan failed. Honestly, Walter f****d him up and I doubt he got taken out by the knife David was reaching for.

ali81 Sorry-You have to read email trails in reverse order. My intent is to call my bank by Friday if I receive no tracking. My records show I was billed and I paid for the product. The emails show the rest. Fairly tight documentation. I have plans for that stuff to benefit this forum. So much for planning- I paid and have not received. I will fight this and it is my fight alone. I am just hoping no other members are going through this crap.

I liked fifield and I much preferred shaw to daniels. different types of character I know but shaws death had quite an impact imo where as if daniels dies, I wont bat an eyelid. she couldv died at any time for me as I just saw her as one of the crew.

as for horror. I wouldn't class AC as a horror in any way at all. in that area it is so far behind alien it isn't even in its shadow. but that's just my opinion.
