u may be right but its there and fans will jump on such things. it creates holes and therefor becomes, imo, bad film making.
r u not in least bit curious to see what became of it since we last see it?
I can only hope. the engineer backstory itself could have 2 movies done about it and if its going to be shown in a way that benefits them and their roll in all this, RS and fox r running out of time. there is only 2 more films I believe to follow and for me, id like to see what happened to the facility on lv223, the engineers motives for creating live, why they deemed humanity a doomed species, did they find a species that was the original form of xeno or was it engineered and where did the black goo come from and in what condition their civilization is in now. a lot I know but those were the questions I came away from Prometheus with
I know we (fans) like jumping onto every piece of info and detail, but believe me, makers of the movie just put it there...
But we can rewatch Prometheus every day, and we can see the Deacon at the end of the movie again and again... and again.
I think the engineers view the mural as important, it also depicts all stages of the xeno life cycle. it either means the creature in the mural was the original specimen or that the engineers themselves have created a species with the same traits as what david has done but at a much earlier time. its another door of possibility that Prometheus opened that id love to see explored
'but he did, or else he wouldn't have boarded the Covenant'
Ha, Engineer77, I think I like you... :)
@ ali81 & sherris - Maybe it will not be too late to get another movie done that will address these great concepts?
The xenomorph in the mural is a deacon, however, the mural itself shouldn't be viewed as something important.
totally agree sherries. Prometheus was a very good movie and a great jump off point for the franchise. it opened so many doors for the series to take yet AC has slammed a lot of those doors firmly shut. I think in time fox and to a degree RS will realise what a missed opportunity they had here.
One of the reasons i love Prometheus so much is that it not only opened up the universe but it also tied us into the mix.
Which made it even more interesting. Im not against it was an Engineer Jesus or Engineer / Humanoid. It was all fair game until A:C landed and shut the universe back up.
don't get me wrong engineer, I hate the thought that the xeno in alien is davids doing, it destroys the whole derelict scene for me but im afraid I think this is how RS is going to go
I think RS has intended it to be david but AC has more holes in it than Prometheus. the ship isn't more than 0.5-0.75 of a mile away and while the fight is taking place the survivors r running for the ship so this gives david only a matter of minutes to deal with walter. and tbh if david blind sides him for a second time then he deserves to be scrap lol
sherries, how does he create the neutrino burst? or an explosion that when investigated would pass off as a neutrino burst?
I think the only plausible (if anything is actually plausible) is some sort of emergency mega-download or harddrive swap....or something like that. It has to be Walter's body
Ali81 - Lol YES that is exactly what he was thinking !! ;);)
Ali81 -
If a neutrino burst or whatever it was happened and David had NOTHING to do with it, then that would mean that The Covenant, a weyland ship, comes across a hidden perfect planet which happens to be the planet that David is on. A Weyland A.I and that is by chance ?
IMO The story that David had NOTHING to do with it is the one i would wuestion. That is just poor writing surely ?
I honestly think David planned all of this. The "Rescue ?" Why not let them all die, meet Walter then go to the ship. No. It had to happen a certain way for the plan to go "Perfect". AC for me was David acting out his masterplan tbc..
agree with ali. the xenomorph was created later by David
sherries, yea u can almost imagine david standing in this scene, closing his eyes and shaking his head saying 'so many good (yet soon to be f****d poor b*****s, id better get my things together) souls' lol
Starlogger -
It was scarcasm and lies
David says: "Really ?" , ..."So many good SOULS"
I don't think the prologue really did anything to convince people how david got his body. shaw took it with her at the end of Prometheus and reattached his head. id take a lot more character building as this film def lacked any form of it. the one bit of deleted footage id want most is the neo-protomorph face off. I think that would be good
I think we will go back to lv223. the story line dictates that we have to go to tie in with alien on lv426 which orbits the same gas giant so there is a good chance. plus I doubt the company would just forget about the trillion dollar investment weyland took on to lv223. whether we see the deacon or not I think is 50-50 but It would def be something id like them to revisit and see what happened to it
im guessing the top one would be the one david described as being too aggressive that he had to destroy lol looks one mean little creature
the xeno in the mural looks more deacon than 1979 xenomorph to me. I wouldn't have time travel in the sense that we see in terminator. I know some have theorised this as how they were going to bridge the alien3 and alien 5 confusion but to me that's just lazy work.
I am guessing these were transitional breeds, in between the Neomorph and the first version of the xenomorph birthed from mother Oram.

I count at least 4 drawings of other versions with elongated heads on the lab walls.
I agree I don't think they r meant to be in the same universe though the similarities concerning AI is intriguing. I don't mind having alien and predator in the same universe though id scrap the events of avp and avpr. its possible weyland r aware of both species but I wouldn't have the 2 species having encounters with each other yet
yea he is certainly a twisted individual. but I don't see the earlier connection made to Hal900. 2 completely different arks
brian, yea im kinda on the same side of the fence as urself. we don't get a great tour of the citadel but from what I saw of it and davids lab, I wonder if he had the technology to accomplish such complex procedures. I dislike the film for other reasons but things like this just add to my disappointment in the overall film
Good point. David is just twisted enough to do attempt something like that.
if u look at Christianity, their all very much similar. its like a group of people at a party and an incident happens. though all those people see the same thing, u can have multiple variations of the same event. I believe RS is saying they sent/ chose a voice in jesus to try and get us to change our ways or the gods would punish us. early forms of Christianity depict jesus as the son of the sky god, which would then fit the engineers. did the engineers truly want control of earth or did they just want their creations to live a just and peaceful existence?
This is yet another example of how bad this film is...somehow David is able to miniaturize the facehugger and then preserve it in some glass encasement? Ugh.
The timelines and technology are not consistent for these to be the same universe.
We have the first David model synthetic in 2026, but they don't become visually and emotionally indistinguishable from humans until much later, and are not being used for off-world to work until 2068.
Yet in the Blade Runner universe of 2018 we already have replicants working offworld 50 years earlier. David 8, the most advanced model in the Alien universe, is created in 2090. Yet in the Blade Runner universe we already have flesh and blood synthetics 72 years earlier. They are also nearly indistinguishable from humans. So much so that we need to have special police trained to hunt them.
Sure, the technology between competing companies can take a while to catch up to each other, but that would just be a few years. Weyland and Tyrell are not even close after 72 years? I don't think so.
These are different universes. Different movie studios too, so they will not cross over.
@ali81 - I think Sir Ridley could be trying to convey the idea that there may have been many different 'visitors' vying for control of our planet long, long ago?
it would be an interesting tie into human history and the reasoning behind their anger towards humanity. im sure this is what RS is going for as it cant be coincidence in the timeline. would then stand to reason why the last engineer in Prometheus is so angry. once he realises where weyland is from and that we have played god ourselves, he is more intent on carrying out his mission.
RS has worked this superbly. we have walter on top in the fight but david is reaching for a knife. we don't see the conclusion so either ending is possible. he may have downloaded into walter after convincing him to turn on humanity, he may have gotten the drop on walter and taken his place. the bit that gets me is that davids voice is damaged the last time we see him but as walter its perfectly fine. taking into account the time it would take to deal with walter, change clothes, chop off his arm AND repair his voice box, all while the crew r running for the ship and yet he catches up with them? I know he will be quicker than the humans but still, hed have about 5 mins to accomplish all the things with walter to give him time to catch up with the crew even at his pace
Wow, these are great! Thanks for posting them! The brightened picture of the vivisected Engineer is so much clearer! I kind of want to use it as my new profile picture...
Also, as for the double headed/conjoined Engineers...I do wonder if it may be a very dark reference to the infamous Nazi doctor Josef Mengele... He had a fascination with conjoined twins and, horrifically, tried to create some himself by surgically conjoining a pair of identical twin children.
I doubt he has played any part in the covenant having to change course as I agree, I think he was some what surprised with their arrival and the news of the colonists. he doesn't arrive until after the dropship explodes which is what attracted him to the scene. I believe he is expecting someone to arrive eventually but not as quickly as the covenant crew. if he has the means to communicate with the company im sure he would have come up with a more elaborate lie to get them to send a ship rather than just rely on the weak signal of shaw to get a passing ships attention
Walter may be newer, but he's also missing a hand and the ability to think creatively.
Both put him at a disadvantage in a fight.
could be that it emerged prematurely due to sensing danger?
So we have a cross sectioned Neomorph head and drawing in David's lab. Since Ridley has said those have smooth skin because of human DNA, I assumed we were meant to think this one was birthed from Shaw's body.

...but, the cross section drawing looks different, and there is also a baby Neomorph on the table in the lab, so David had more than one. Maybe this was a pre-exising breed, or it just looks the same if birthed from either an Engineer or human.

It looks identical to the one birthed from Hallett.
