Production on Alien: Paradise Lost begins at the start of the new year with filming set to begin in Australia this January. Up until this moment, the only confirmed cast to have roles in the Prometheus sequel are returning stars Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender. Tonight, Deadline reports that this roster may be expanding with the inclusion of Mission Impossible's Rebecca Ferguson.

The actress is also in the mix for the Prometheus sequel that Ridley Scott, buoyed by his critical and commercial success with The Martian, is prepping at Fox to go into production in the latter half of next year. No concrete talks have been held about that one yet but Deadline understands that the latest draft was delivered to Scott and Fox execs recently and it is, by all accounts, very strong with a peach of a major female role. Ferguson has a lot of fans at Fox, who had courted her to take the female lead inGambit, only for the actress to go with The Girl on a Train instead.
There's no doubt, she could kick some xeno-butt...

Like Scott's original Alien and Prometheus, the sequel, Alien: Paradise Lost will again feature a strong female lead. If Ferguson gets the role, it's likely she could be a leading member of the new group of travelers Ridley Scott alluded to in a recent interview.
