Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus will be very different compared to Ridley Scott's original according to Alien: Romulus actor David Jonsson. Speaking recently with MovieWeb, the actor explained how "very, very, very different" the new Alien movie will be, how Fede Alvarez has an "incredible spin on it" and how Scott's Alien was "before his time":
I mean, I’m not too sure what I can say just yet, but I know that… I know that it’s very, very, very different. I think Alien was slightly before my generation, in terms of its depth and its impact at the time, but you know, we have such an incredible spin on it. And we had Fede Álvarez as our director, Ridley Scott producing it. It was incredible to work with those people, and opposite Cailee Spaeny, who is just a brilliant actress. I think it’s going to be cool. I’m very excited.

We're not too sure how dramatically different the film can be from the 1979 original - both films involve an unsuspecting crew coming in contact with a hostile Alien organism in space. The main difference between Scott's original and Romulus will be that the crew in Romulus are made up of a significantly younger generation. Very, very, very different or not, Alien: Romulus already got Ridley Scott's approval, with the original film's director claiming the new movie is " f***ing great".
Alien: Romulus takes place between the events of Alien and Aliens, with a storyline completely separate to that of the Ellen Ripley story arc established in the original quadrilogy. Disney's CEO referred to the film as a reboot of the franchise.
Marketing for Alien: Romulus remains slow, with the film's official logo having been revealed recently, beyond that not much else has been promoted. As new details and materials surface, we'll be sure to keep you posted!
