One of the most brilliant things about gaming is that you can be anyone and do anything. We get to sink ourselves deeply into another world and be enveloped by the storyline.
It’s no surprise that gaming has grown in terms of players. There is a game style and a console for everyone. PC gamers, console games, mobile, hand-held, tablet - no matter what technology you have, you can game.
If you’re a gamer, you won’t be surprised to find 2.7 billion gamers worldwide. But you might be interested in knowing that in 2014 there were only 1.82 billion.
The gaming industry has had explosive growth, and with that comes a vast range of games.
There are over 25 new games published on Steam daily, and in total, they have over 30,000 games.
And it is showing no signs of slowing down. There are a variety of gaming genres available for everyone that will take the player to a new universe for a few minutes or even hours!
Even real-life simulations like X-plane, War Thunder, or Railway Empire provide enthusiastic players some escapism, even if it’s designed to feel real, provide escapism.
But there is one genre of game that provides an out-of-this-world experience.
Space-based Sci-Fi games are top-rated. They give players a glimpse into the world beyond what we can see—exploring new planets, aliens, myths, superheroes, and more.
Alien: Covenant
Sci-Fi is a popular genre that has inspired many industries not just the gaming sector. In particular, the fictional industry has been inspired by Sci-Fi and has welcomed many popular ‘alien based’ films and novels.
Alien Covenant is a popular Sci-Fi film franchise that has several films based upon the events on a crew landing on another planet and having to fight off aliens in a deadly survival battle.
The franchise also has novels based upon the films for those who prefer to imagine the scenes themselves. The popularity of the films and novels has inspired gaming providers and other entertainment industries to create games based on Sci-Fi events, including the use of aliens and various planets.
Games that take you outer-space
The great thing about the space genre is that it has realistic-looking space, breath-taking galaxies, and some games that have cartoon-based graphics.
Both beautiful, but the different graphical design brings something unique to each game.
Alien: Isolation
If you want to hear your heart beating in your ears, then Alien: Isolation is the game for you. The movies captured the hearts of millions while getting pulses racing.
So it is no surprise that the Alien games are incredible. It feels like Dead Space to play and keeps you on the edge of your seat as you play.
Essentially you’re locked in a ship with an Alien Xenomorph who is slowly hunting you down. If she sees you, the chase is on, and to say it gets tense is an understatement.
The Xenomorph is scary, and if you’re not prepared, you will jump. You’re playing as Ellen Ripley’s daughter, which gives it something a bit special.
Outer-space slot games
For those who want to get their heart racing but do not feel like being chased, then various slot games can give you an outer-space experience without the scare factor.
As previously mentioned, various gaming providers have been inspired by the Sci-Fi film industry and this includes slot providers too. The growth of the online slots market has encouraged slot providers to create attracting themes to entice new and existing players to their sites.
Many slot providers now have a variety of themes including space and alien themes where slot reels and background graphics include those from outer space. Some of the best Sci-Fi themed slot games include: Galactica, Starburst and Space Wars.
Kerbal Space Program
Great for most ages, Kerbal Space Program is reminiscent of the aliens in ToyStory. Gamifying rocket build and landing is a super fun way.
Of course, you should expect your rocket to fall apart more than once and that you’ll be a bit confused before you ‘get it’.
The game uses the correct rules of physics, which means when you finally manage to complete a mission, you’re going to feel pretty happy with yourself.
It is easy to get into, and there are multiple goals to achieve. As for graphics, they’re fun and perfect for a younger audience, but anyone can enjoy this game.
Play on: P24, Xbox One, PC
Halo 2
Halo 2 is often considered the best space game. It was with Halo 2 that the Xbox Live platform reached dizzy popularity.
Although online gaming was available, it was rarely used before Halo 2 hit our screens.
What makes Halo 2 so incredible is that it has a much heavier outer space focus. The thing about Halo 2 is that it was released years ago but still feels great to play.
Developers made sure that the ‘gamefeel’ for Halo 2 stood the test of time, and it doesn’t feel as clunky as many of the games released in the same year.
Shooting from the edge of structures against a backdrop of space artwork is incredible.
EVE Online
What sets EVE online apart from many other space games is that you play with the entire population. Over half a million players are on a mega-server.
This is ideal if you want to maximize your gameplay and the social aspect of gaming simultaneously.
With EVE online, you will work with other players and form fleets. Alliances are in the tens of thousands, while fleets are in the thousands in terms of the number of players.
The storyline is one of the most all-encompassing because it is constantly evolving. The developers have fun when they are working on expansions and within the world itself.
EVE online is undeniably one of the most popular space games around right now – and a must play.
Space games give us a way to explore something that we can usually only see from afar.
Taking players to new heights with a massive range of genres from shooters, sims, and survival games, Sci-Fi and space might just be some of the most entertaining and immersive games genres around.
