To the disappointment of many fans, composer Harry Gregson-Williams will no longer be scoring Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant. Back in February of this year, Gregson-Williams had stated that he would be composing Alien: Covenant's score, but as of two days ago for reasons unknown, he revealed on his Facebook page that he would no longer be involved with the Prometheus sequel:

I won't be scoring Alien: Covenant after all!

With Gregson-Williams no longer attached, we await word on who will step in as the film's new composer. As new details arrive, we'll be sure to update you all updated.

This is sad news. :( Gregson-Williams is one of the most insanely talented film composers working today.  I still maintain that his work on the first two Narnia films (especially the first one) is among the greatest film music ever written.  His work on Prometheus is breathtaking, one of the elements that makes that film so incredible and epic.  He will be missed.

I'm not worried though.  Whomever replaces him will be amazing too. :) The question now is... who?

As I've said, before, the man creates some wonderful themes, but has a hard time reusing them and creating variants for them.

Regardless, it would have been a wonderful score. A real shame. I was looking forward to this collaboration.

I think he was great and love his work but this prometheus sequel needs a fresh punch. i think its a good decision since theres so much substance in this one, why not get another take at soundtrack development. could be awesome.......

Hmm... sorry to hear. I wonder what happened.

But I'm confused, he isn't the same composer who did Prometheus. It was Marc Streitenfeld. Why didn't they get Marc Streitenfeld again?

I would say that who ever is composing the score will be using a very dark tone for this film. Or it will have very limited score

Hans Zimmer or Philip Glass would make brilliant composers for this!!!

Such a shame... I really like HGW, and truth be told: when RS is in trouble in terms of music he goes to HGW for help... i.e. Prometheus and Exodus... I think Giacchino would be a perfect fit, because he worked in some of Jerry Goldsmith past works (Star Trek, Planet of the Apes) and he has done some horror movies as well.

I second that ^ I think Giacchino would be a great fit as well.
