In Prometheus, Michael Fassbender stole the show in his portrayal of the sinister android, David. The sequel, Alien Covenant, will feature Fassbender reprising his role as David, and also as a new android, named Walter. Comingsoon.net had an exclusive interview with Fassbender as part of his press tour for Assassin's Creed, and managed to convince him to deliver some details regarding his role:
“I think Walter’s a real different kettle of fish,David was definitely a work-in-progress, somewhat of a prototype I suppose. The elements of him that were the human elements I think people found a little disturbing, so Walter’s more of a straightforward robot. Pretty logical, much more of a servant without the ego.”
Fassbender seems to be clear here that Walter represents a fully realized android model, in contrast to David as a prototype. He also hints that David's human characteristics may be the result of his unfinished state, possibly being programming modules that were never intended for the final product.
Walter, is a model without these human traits, and thus is more of a standard robot. It is interesting that Fassbender will play dual roles, as the possibilities for Walter and David to share the screen ,may provide some avenues for confusion between the characters as to which robot is which.
Alien Covenant will release on May 19th, 2017.The movie has already released its first official poster, which can be viewed here. Let us know in the comments what you think of Fassbender's latest update!
