Before the creature that birthed from Kay at the end of Alien: Romulus looked like an amalgamation of Human / Xenomorph and Engineer (from Prometheus) DNA, the creature originally had a VERY different appearance! Official concept art for the Offspring Hybrid by Dane Hallett shows the Black Goo-ified monstrosity sporting wing-like appendages, a Xenomorph-like head, multiple limbs and more! Check it out:
According to Dane, this design for the Offspring was the original plan and made it all the way through production to previs before it was changed last minute to the more Humanoid/Engineer looking creature we saw in the final cut of the film.
Additional early sketches of the Offspring depicted another form of a creepy, multi-limbed monster which surely would've made for some grade A nightmare fuel if realized on film:
