Ridley Scott confirms Prometheus 2 is written, but may be delayed

Ridley Scott has confirmed that the scripts for both the highly anticipated Prometheus sequel and Blade Runner sequel have been written, completed and green lit. However, Scott also confesses that he's got a lot on his plate for the next few years, by directing the Matt Damon led, Martian for 2015, Ridley hints at the fact that he may be directing the Blade Runner sequel before the Prometheus sequel, which would undoubtedly delay the release of Prometheus 2 which originally had a projected release date of March 4th, 2016.

Regardig the Blade Runner sequel, Ridley remarks:

“It’s written and it’s damn good. Of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years—despite the accident. So yes, that will happen.”

...Followed by “That’s the problem, I’ve got a lot of ducks in a row. But they’re all written.” when asked about the status of Prometheus 2.

Of course this doesn't confirm that Prometheus 2 won't be Scott's next project, as those decisions are left to the Studio, not so much the director. Between the two, it seems Prometheus 2 is the sequel most movie goers are interested in, while fans of the iconic Blade Runner are worried that a sequel will only damage the franchise. Regardless of which film comes first, it's reassuring to know that both films are written and have potential.

So we are informed that P2 and the Bladerunner sequel "are written and have potential". We have gone from P2 being in the works to it "having potential". Its been covered in another thread, but this is not good news at all if it is interpreted at face value. P2 has been put on the shelf indefinitely by a director who is in his late seventies.  A week ago I had some enthusiasm. Right now I have barely a glimmer of hope.

Good point sp_jockey. Ridley seems to have a lot on his plate and he does seem to go back and forth with claims of doing the sequels to both films. I think theres already studio investments in the "waiting to be made" films because both franchises are huge. I think Ridley will make both films,he's just buying some time from impatient studios(and some fans ;)  )

I'm as annoyed as anyone that Prometheus is being delayed, especially after being told Ridley was "extremely excited about it" and that it was to be going into production in the Fall. But perhaps Ridley wants to have some more time for it to simmer, to sort of mull over it and really get it perfect... to really live up to the expectations that many (not me) thought the first one should have lived up to. But yeah, he's getting old, and who knows how many more mega films he has in him (he seems to only DO mega films these days, aside from The Counselor, maybe). He does impress, though. That's for sure. Hard to believe a man of his age can be so productive. Hell, it might be how he keeps going... by STAYING so busy.

Long live Ridley!
