The rumor mill is beginning to turn for Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus sequel! The yet to be titled Alien: Romulus 2 is rumored to be bringing back franchise icon Ellen Ripley by way of de-aging Sigourney Weaver with CGI according to a new leak by insider Daniel Richtman! If you subscribe to his Patreon, you will have seen his latest update, teasing:
For the next Alien movie, they’re considering bringing back Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) using de-aging technolog.
Now, he does state that executives at 20th Century Studios are considering bringing Ripley back using de-aging technology - this does not state they've decided on doing so yet. After the poor execution of de-aging CGI witnessed in Alien: Romulus with Rook, we hope if they do plan to de-age Ripley, that they take their time to get it right the first time.
It's also worth noting that while this rumor is just that - a rumor (and should be taken with some salt), Richtman was the first to reveal the film's title back when Romulus was in production, as well as the first to leak information about the Rook character. So, he has a fairly good track record for rumors coming to fruition.
