Question; can anyone tell me what the object in the picture is...?...
If so, and you do get it right, it will be "Your Turn" to ask everyone some kind of Science Fiction or related Movie question...
perhaps we can use media like pictures as well to spice it up for fun.
Anyways I am going first...what's that in the picture?

MemberOvomorph12/9/2011nope he did the opposite of stripped, nothing rearranged, obviously the lighting changed but Ridley personnaly went around the set and changed something about it

MemberOvomorph12/9/20111. was what was a first or unique at the time about the opening title sequence, i think i gave a clue, something along the lines of the guys who desgined something else to do with the film also designed the alien title that appears and worked on the idea of the hyroglyphs appearing

Tec-B
MemberOvomorph12/9/2011mmm broadly speaking he did a kind of decorating, but i need something a little more specific

Gavin
MemberTrilobite12/9/20111. something about the method of how the letters appeared bit by bit, or was it synchronised with the music

Thadus 12
MemberOvomorph12/9/2011He repainted the corridors to create the illusion of different parts of the ship, even tho she was running down the same corridor

Tec-B
MemberOvomorph12/9/2011nope, to specific. The guys who came up with the actual alien title and it's integration with the sequence (appearing glyphs) where pulled in from another department in the studio and it was unique at the time to have such guys doing it.

Tec-B
MemberOvomorph12/9/2011Thadus has question 4! 1 point to him. Ridley personally went along and resprayed the corridor gunmetal grey in order to increase claustrophobia and also to match the colour of the alien, so that a lot of the ridges seen on the previously lighter and white corridors looked like the Aliens head dome. Was used to great effect in the narcissus
I should say corridors as he did most of them, he didn't need to give the impression of diff areas of th ship as such as it was a working set in the sense that it all existed in more or less the right layout except that different floors were beside each other

2. 1 point to EP
3. 1 point to Thadus
4. 1 point to Thadus
5. 1/2 point to Thadus and 1/2 point to Snorkel
So, while there's still a point up for grabs and would be great if someone could have it, Thadus has the con!
If there's a general consus to know Q1's answer i will certainly give it

MemberOvomorph12/9/2011As each disjointed element of the title’s scrawl appear individually over shots of isolating space, we begin to realize that this is a film that will take its time to bury its audience in suspense and horror. Something about the presentation of these credits lends a gravity to the film from the get-go, as if we’re about to see something mythological. It’s completely unnerving.

MemberOvomorph12/9/2011Everything pointing to the center because the center is where the parasitic pupae of the Alien comes from; the middle of you. Steady, dark tension.

Tec-B
MemberOvomorph12/9/2011and snorkel has question 1! yes he used the same graphic designers as the promotional materials because he felt there never seemed to by a synergy between the movie flyers and posters and what actually appeared on screen. In this case i believe the guys created the glyph idea first for the promo materials and Ridley borught them across for the title sequence as he liked it so much
All the answers to my questions are from the legacy boxset Alien DVD also sold as the stabdalone alien DVD quite a few years prior to the quadrilogy boxset, and i think it's the best commentary for alien. He basically sits down and talks about how exactly he made the movie

Gavin
MemberTrilobite12/9/2011Hold on, the piecing together of the films title happens at the end - in other words the title ALIEN is the last thing we see even though it started at the beginning of the credits.

MemberOvomorph12/9/2011During the opening sequence, as the camera wanders around the corridors of the Nostromo, we can clearly see a Krups coffee grinder mounted to a wall; this is the same model that became the "Mr. Fusion" in Back to the Future.
