I really am starting to believe they are on LV426. I mean think about it, the Derelict crashes and it is a biotechnological craft. The landscape that we see in Alien could easily be the aftermath. It would also explain why the ship was there in the first place!

Also on further notice on the trailer, did anyone see the road leading to the ship? Anyone have any ideas as to how there is a road. could it be like the ancient Nazca line in Peru?

You can also see some rock features in the trailer similar to those in Alien, so yeah it is looking more and more likely that LV-426 is the setting, or one of the settings, at least that is the way it is beginning to look.

I think it's a man made road, paved for thier ATV's to come in and easier as well. Just a guess.

i remember that in Alien they say something about which hour of the day it was ...maybe it was night ? ( i remember something like 2 hours to sunrise ..but i can be wrong ) .... i mean every planet with a thick atmophere and a Star should have day and night

I am with the crowd and say this will be the planet the ill fated Nostromo lands on. Of course, the planet looks different in the day time from what we see in the trailer but perhaps that being "they" are terraformers, something in the ship goes wrong as the ship crashes as well, thus causing the planet to change drastically...and give us what we see in "Alien".

I agree Cain. There's some type of explosion or "overpressure" event that is the last sequence of the trailer. It shows Shaw's face and then she is blown over/away. Maybe that's what changes the landscape, along with the fact that the Nostromo landed at night. And to think we will have to do this for 6 months.... Jeez!

Upon approach to LV-426 in Alien didn't they identify it as a small moon? Most small planetary bodies can't retain an atmosphere, or free flowing surface water. So if it's the same location then something that happens is going to totally blow that planet into chunks and rip away the majority of it's atmosphere. That would pretty much take care of the crew of Prometheus as well. "You have to understand, I was wrong, we were all wrong,....I'm so sorry."

I couldn't agree more. The last "8 minutes" as Ridley Scott said that was the link would have to be the derelict ship crashing on the surface of LV-426. I could see the last few scenes of the movie being the chestburster bursting through the Space Jockey and then the screen goes black. But we can mostly conclude from the trailer that the planet LV-426, The Space Jockey and the Derelict Ship are major links to the first Alien. The more they reveal, the more I get pumped for this!!! Yeah I have to agree with 6.08.12. 6 months more of waiting:!! UGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I'm gonna have to find ways of keeping myself occupied for 6 months. UGH!!

when ash read the atmosphere of the lv426 is 10% Argon, 85% Nitrogen and 5% Neon and maintains a gravitational field equivalent to 0.86 of that on Earth. So is very similar to earth except oxygen ( primordial as someone say ) is the gravity that allow a planet to mantain it atmosphere and there is prettygood ( more than mars i think ) ...so if not covered all day by clouds i think the lv426 should have a day/night cycle .

Obviously something happened to LV-426... OR the ampule room is not on it, it's elsewhere. No one in there is wearing helmets, but they are in the RV "hangar" when the mutated crew shows up. That's the part that is driving me nuts. Are these scenes from inside the derelict, or on earth where this stuff is originally found, or on LV426, or what?

Remember there is a discovery on Earth which leads the Prometheus to travel to the planet where the Space Jockey's are. So the road and waterfall might be Earth when the discovery is made??

[/quote] that would be so way cool mun. but like maybe millions of years before, maybe Scott won't tell much but rather "hint" at stuff like that.

take into account that LV-426 is not a planet, but a planetoid, a moon.

Also bear in mind that their is something like weather....weather was bad on the day they discovered the derelict on LV-426....no one ever heard of a sand storm before?

""" From the films it’s difficult to determine whether the colonists regarded ‘night’ as the time the local sun was below the horizon, or the time the local sun was eclipsed by the gas giant. Probably the latter. """ also that article talk about sand storms ... also i can add that would be impossible to raise an human colony in a planet with no day or night ...

Right now this is a difficult one to call. There seems to be good weather and roads in some shots and nothing looks like lv426. There are also amazing landscape shots of a beautiful world. I wonder are there several planets within the system close to each other which are visited one is a fully functional world the other in the making. Also I'm not convinced that the ship is crashing in the final shots with Shaw running. Surely a ship of this immensity plummeting to ground would wipe out everything nearby. It may be just landing near her and she needs to scarper.

At comicon when Ridley said he was in Norway shooting a scene that was to be one of the first scenes in the film. This could be Earth. My thoughts are that the huge head and ampules that are the building blocks that create man are discovered on earth as a map room. They are also without their helmets in some scenes...and could have been worn at first as precaution. I would think this discovery leads them to LV -426. Moons or planetoids can have a raw foundation for building a terraformed environment....look at Titan and Io moons as basic examples... In Alien the LV 426 weather is closed in. Could be that in Prometheus the planet is being terraformed.... then it all stops....therefore crap weather In Alien. It's Ash that says "Mother says the sun will be up in 2 hours" or words similar.

that's a cool theory. my theory on why it's lv426. both are moons. in the trailer, you'll see a landing vessel approach the planet. to the left is a much larger planet. space jockey's ship crashes on both. the filming location is the lava fields of iceland. look on google image, it has undulations closely resembling the type seen on lv426.

I'm gonna stick my neck out and say no... In Aliens Ripley states that the derelict was not from there. LV-426 was "a rock" with "no indegenous life." I will say that the derelict is indeed from somewhere else and it was charted for Earth. We shall see! I can't wait!
