MemberOvomorph12/24/2011I have the 2 different anniversary DVDs where Ridley Scott did 2 lots of commentary.
From these, have 2 thoughts about the Aliean prequel that he wanted to do:
1) RS was inspired by 2001. The studio info for Prometheus implies that Mankind has found something about our Origins and sets out to explore the lead somewhere in space. This is the classic 2001 scenario. The plot's theme then will be a vision of who we are as a species and the higher intelligence that "created" us... the SJ or the "Alien"? Likewise HAL in 2001 has it's counterpart in the robots/androids in Alien.
Believe there will be strong comparisons (similarlities or contrasts) between 2001 and Prometheus.
(Note: in some of these discussion posts, some people are critical of 2001... all I can say is that I LOVE both movies and that Ridley Scott himself is a great fan. Think he will want to do "his" version of what happens when we meet our maker... from the studio blurb, it will not be pleasant).
2) In Alien, RS wanted the Alien creature to have a sensory (sexual?) attraction to the women. He did not get to show this is the final filming or edit. He says he wanted the Alien to be fascintaed by Ripley's naked skin - that was the original idea behind her undressing in the shuttle scene. The other unstated evidence was Lambert: she was fully clothed when attacked by the Alien, but her naked leg is shown when Ripley discovers her body (Parker and the other men were clothed). When they made Alien they (Dan O'Bannon, all the producers and RS) did not want to do a cliche shock/horror movie a la Roger Corman... However it can be a cheap cliche in a horror movie to have the attractive woman being "sexually" attacked... although that is also a classic device... think the shower scene in Psycho where the murdered woman was naked. All we know is that the lead in Alien is a sexually attractive woman (to RS, which is one reason he cast Sigourney he says) and in Prometheus we have 2 attractive women, one who is famous for sexually violent movie.
Believe in this movie version, SR will explore this aspect much further than he was allowed/able to do in the original Alien.
(Perhaps that's why he wanted a X classification for Prometheus?)
Just some thoughts to add to the mix :)
So looking forward to the release.

MemberOvomorph12/24/2011I'm sorry. I wasn't intended to be rude. If I have been so, I beg your pardon. I was only trying to say that I agree with the opinion about Lambert's Death / rape action from the Alien, and that her death scares me a lot because it has, in my opinion, some strange and different aspects that scares me out, because it removes 'things'. And I think that it was the intention when it was filmed. I've been a great fan of the Alien franchise (basically Alien and Aliens) since I was a child and got shocked when I first saw it.
Again, if I have been rude or my english level hasn't allow to me explain my point of view, I'm sorry.

MemberOvomorph12/24/2011Frantz, between your bastardization of the English language and your blatant denial of facts, you have elevated yourself to the biggest idiot of the board. I am sorry for being so blunt. I usually try to avoid conflict and even more so try to avoid reading it, but this has gone on long enough. Spart is spot on with the DVD commentaries. Even the whole idea of Kane getting impregnated was meant as rape. In fact, the whole idea was to make men feel uncomfortable so it wasn't the normal idea of a woman getting raped. The scriptwriters did not want the male audience getting off Scott free (puns intended, both of them). You continually deny facts that have been laid out in great detail in books, interview, commentaries and images.
Please do us all a favor and only post if you have something real to add or something to make us laugh (in which most cases , describes your posts). This whole theory mangling is ridiculous and you just need to back off of it before you make yourself look even more foolish.
Sorry guys and admins, I just can't stand by and watch the Jersey Shore without commenting, just as I cannot read this idiotic drivel without commenting.

MemberOvomorph12/24/2011If you take all the commentary on the DVDs the references about sex are very few and with a question mark .
Of course someone , that maybe is grown in an age of "different movies" arent able to understand a different cinema ..thats fine .

MemberOvomorph12/24/2011Spartacus - Man you are a sex maniac!!! But hey, thats a good thing, you want to get your "sex" point across, thats cool - the bottom line is you are correct!! Frantz dude - go check out the RS commentries on all the dvd releases of the film, he never stops barking on (like Spartacus) about the sexual overtones within his film and Gigers art. End of...

MemberOvomorph12/25/2011thanks everyone for your extra info to my post.
Thanks Spartacus - yes, a major source was the Cartwright/Scott commentary and others. And again, this interpretation helps explain why Ripley stripped off at the end - but this theme was dropped by the studio as RS ran out of money and there were disagreements over the ending (e.g. RS wanted the Alien to win).
My main point to this post was I expect this sexual theme to be a part of Prometheus - RS will get to do the interpretation he wanted to make originally.

MemberOvomorph12/25/2011With Giger and Scott being the principles involved here, i would not expect anything else.

MemberOvomorph12/26/2011Got the definitive Alien Vault book from Amazon yesterday. For the disbelievers about the sexual themes in the film - Reading this book will change your opinion! On that note also -When Ridley Scott was asked what he thought of the EGG, he described about hideous it was and harsh on the eye. The production crew said - RIDLEY YOU HAVE AN ALIEN THAT LOOKS LIKE A PENIS AND OPENINGS TO THE DERELICT SHIP THAT LOOK LIKE VAGINAS! Now end of discussion me thinks lol.

MemberOvomorph12/26/2011That Banter you just quoted is also included on the Quadrilogy DVD Box Set.

MemberOvomorph12/26/2011Yeah apologies about the wrong use of English. When am reading all these discussions my brain is like hold, Scott said this and they said that ha. Yeah that's the right book. Its really great book. Has loads of small details in it. Designs and info. Like in the Directors Cut of Alien i did not know that Brett and Dallas where to turn into EGGS!!!! Unlike the host thing in Aliens. But get the book, for Alien fans its a must. Sorry for delay its hard writing this stuff on smartphone compared to laptop.

MemberOvomorph12/26/2011well if all that sex references are a joke for the production crew
""The production crew said - RIDLEY YOU HAVE AN ALIEN THAT LOOKS LIKE A PENIS AND OPENINGS TO THE DERELICT SHIP THAT LOOK LIKE VAGINAS!""

MemberOvomorph12/27/2011And of course there is the rape killing of Ripley by Ash... SR suggested to Ian Holm on the morning of filming the scene where Ash attacks Ripley to turn it into a sexual attack. After Ian was keen to accept a sexual side to robots, they discussed the how. The girly magazine in her mouth was the outcome they came up with. Wonder why SR needed to add that element to the attack?
And then there is SR on the commentary tracks saying how he mused that the astronauts probably all had sex with each other (including gay/les) on the long flights. Of course he filmed only Ripley/Dallas but later cut out that scene and removed any other inference between the crew.
SR has comparatively little sexual content in his films, but it was a deep element in Alien.
