Two Different Space Jockey Vessels…Or The Same One?

Lets see if we can put this one to bed... By comparing photos of the Space Jockey/Engineer’s ship(s) from the original ALIEN film and PROMETHEUS…I think that they are two different craft. For one, if I use a horseshoe as a common reference for the shape of the vessel(s), the hull protrusions, and ends of the horseshoe look different to me. Maybe it’s just the lighting and camera angles…I don’t know…but they just look different. The frame and skin of ship from ALIEN appears to be a bit more rounded, swollen, and inflated…like a dirigible or zeppelin. It almost looks like a pontoon something or other. The craft shown in the PROMETHEUS trailer appears to be slightly more hard-lined and less biomechanical, as do the interiors as well. Of course, it may be intended to be the same vessel…with less than perfectly authentic model reproduction by the special effects team…but I doubt it. I think Ridley’s eye is very discerning and scrutinizing. I think the difference in looks is intentional, as the two are meant to be two completely different ships. Neurion, I hadn't noticed this particular topic you posted, and ended up posting something along the same lines today! Like you, I'm hoping the differences are an indicator of more than one 'Derelict'-style craft, rather than supposedly being representative of the same one seen in ALIEN...but we'll have to wait and see I guess.

...and I've aslo realised I should have posted mine here in the 'Prometheus Discussions' forum, rather than the 'Alien Discussions' forum. Anyway, here's a link to my related topic, and the responses it got - http://www.prometheus-movie.com/community/forums/topic/915#7610

Just a side comment: I don't usually take anything in Aliens as canon (just my personal preference), but I thought this was interesting to note. I caught this the first time i watched the DC of Aliens. The derelict ship appears to have sustained more damage than when first seen in ALIEN. (Sorry if this was already discussed.) http://time.absoluteavp.com/pics/derelict2.jpg (The right side, non-hammer side.)

Neurion, I agree with you. I actually think the ships are different. The Terrain of LV-426 at the derelict is significantly different than that of the ship in Prometheus. The ships are similar but NOT the same. The Hammer Head arm curls up in the derelict like a plant leaf reaching towards the light. I did mention in another post (discontinuity). Different Ships Different Planets. LV-426 didn't turn into a Primordial Planetoid in 30 years and when you watch the Trailer they are running from it in broad daylight like you would see on a planet inside the goldielocks zone not a moon to a jupiter type planet like LV-426 is. If you recall in Aliens the sun never rose. Even when newt said its going to get dark soon it was already dark like dusk. Just my opinion. Regards, Rick

Rick, Yeah...I agree with you. As far as the sunlight...in the first ALIEN, Ash did say that "The sun's coming up in twenty minutes"...and it does actually does get lighter...but never bright. So, we'll see I guess. Peace, Neurion

Definately more than one Derelict. The one on LV-426 had been dead for 1 million years prior to its discovery by the crew of The Nostromo.

Guys! Prometheus is not an ALIEN film! I mean we will see aliens there but not xenomorphs.. Both ships are similar but diferent.. Why Similar? because they are from the Space jokey race.. and IMO this race transport, deal or whatever with parasite ALIENS.. They transport differente kind of parasite aliens.. So this time we are not going to see in Promotheus any xenomorph because it may be in the same universe but not the same ship and not the same planet.. There are 6 planets at the beginning of the trailer!!! one of them may be the LV-426. That explains why the alien eggs looks different and why this new "parasite" alien race that the space jokey is transporting this time need an urn, thats because they are not xenomorphs.. and Imo.. the images of archeology digs are not an invite but maybe an warning.. The big question now is WTF are the Space jockeys and what are they doing???? Are they cleaning the universe from parasites or are they farming parasites? Maybe they work with Predators!? Im sure we will know a bit more but we will not get all answers about this race nor what they do.. we may get a 2 film..
