MemberOvomorph01/5/2012With all the excitement concerning prometheus I had to go back and watch the original. I wanted to see if i could pick up anything we may see in june. After watching Ash (the only person that could have ties to any prequel). I'm starting to think we may see xenos or the people in prometheus will learn a great deal about them. In the scene where land has the hugger on his face Dallas wants to remove it right away. Ash then says somthig like wait wait wait it might be feeding him air. I think ash knew that the hugger was laying an embryo. I thinkin june we will find out how the "company" knew so much............also I find I really strange that the crew in the first movie find an amazing discovery (SJ ship) and they take off..........WTF.............what you guys think?

MemberOvomorph01/6/2012maybe they wanted the alien to whipe out the whole crew so they new the life cycle they didn ´t thought someone would survive... and if they sent the marines it wouldn´t be so secret there would be some governament involvement. This way they kept the whole thing in their own company without sharing.

MemberOvomorph01/6/2012It's clear from the scene where Ripley revives Ash that both he & the company knew about the alien or at least knew something was there that was worth investigating. The question is what did they know, how & when? Hopefully we'll get some idea or explanation of this in Prometheus. I'm thinking along the lines that nobody in Prometheus gets out alive but someone manages to send a message back home .......... so unfolds the events in Alien (to put it simply).

MemberOvomorph01/6/2012Haha Snorkel, if only that were the case. Just sharing me tattoo as an introduction. Nothing more. These days....I don't care enough to troll women. In real life or here. :-P

MemberOvomorph01/7/2012One wonders how exactly the company expected Ash to restrain the Alien, or what exactly they were going to do once the Nostromo landed..Also when Ripley is being debriefed in Aliens, the company certainly doesn't seem to believe anything about a Xenomorph 'it's a rock..no indigenous life'

Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/7/2012"Its a rock...no indigenous life"... so why start a colony there, surely there are better planets out there suitable for colonisation.

MemberOvomorph01/7/2012so ur telling me the company planned to risk the lives of hundreds of families and children on LV-426? my god....

Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/7/2012Er Yeah, Ripley discovered in Aliens that Carter Burke gave the colonists order to investigate Ripleys Co-ordinates to the Derelict, knowing it would be full off eggs, as per both special order 937 (Alien) and Ripleys testimony (Aliens).

MemberOvomorph01/7/2012if they know there was something around ... why to send a colony and not just a squad to explore ? They did neither gave the order to scout around until the return of Ripley ..... i think LV426 was suitable for terraformation due to his primordial state ...and was good for the plot to have a colony there :p

Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/7/2012Or...
They sent the colony there with orders that if they found anything to report it to the company, having realised the signal had been turned off or shut down. Then when they found Ripley they made sure to ask her the co-ordinates of the Derelict.
As for not sending a specialised squad in to investigate, this argument would also apply to Alien. It wasn't until Alien 3 that the company sent such a team, which suggests (to me) that someone or something had forbid them to use such means on LV-426, but who/what?

MemberOvomorph01/9/2012First, of course Ash new about the Alien. Look at the scene where Dallas is informing the crew of why they were awakened. Watch Ash and Ash only, Ian Holm is standing in the background not saying a thing and looking like he is unconcerned, and that he knows what is up. Great acting by Ian. I bet Scott told Ian that he is the only crew member who knows what is about to happen.
Second, in the extended versions of Alien especially with the scenes deleted where they were going to blow the Alien out of the airlock Ripley makes reference to the fact that Ash is trying to protect it.
What is interesting to me, is we see the clips of the ship in the Prometheus trailer looking very similar to the ship on LV-426. Anyone remember the dialogue with Dallas and Ash and Dallas is out of the ship. Dallas says to Ash if he is "getting this" meaning the view of the ship, Ash looks at his screen.....pauses for a bit...and says "yes I have never seen anything like it."
Truth or lie? As a robot, does Ash know, seeing the ship have information stored in his data banks about what ever is going to happen in Prometheus?

You have my sympathy
MemberOvomorph01/10/2012I think Ash knew pretty much what to expect, he was a company android remember what Dallas told Rilpley , "I went five hauls, long and short, various cargoes, with anothother science officer. Then two days days before we left Thedus, they replaced him with Ash".
The warning Beacon was explained thus by Ash "...And that the company experts knew all along the transmission was a warning and not a distress signal". He also went on to explain "...according to what the (company) translators determined, it was much to late for a distress signal to do the senders any good. The signal itself was frighteningly specific, very detailed". Ash also told Ripley, "...they (SJ) set up the warning, to keep the inhabitants of other ships that might consider setting down on that world from suffering the same fate." He also said "... they (SJ) were a noble race...".
It is likely the comapny detected the signal whilst surveying the systems and decided to take the firest possible opportunity to make use of the Alien and associated technology which they were aware of due to the signals speciivity.
