@ Spartacus - I kept getting 'logged out' every time I tried to answer you in Snorkelbottom's 'My Alien 5' topic recently, so I've had to start this seperate one so that I can respond in full to you about this...
Anyway, if you happen to be a technically adept 'fan-editor' Spartacus, then I'd certainly be willing to consider your offer of help with this project.
However, there's a few certain things I require when it comes to undertaking this with any potential collaborator -
1. Ideally, I'd hoped for someone who was capable of cutting the BLU-RAY versions of this...but I'd certainly be okay with just cutting the DVD versions of this, if need be. But either way, I need someone who can cut it using the 'PAL' region versions, as my exact descriptions and 'timings' would be taken from the 'PAL' releases. I also need someone who's capable of cutting this together using either 3 different BLU-RAY sources or alternatively, from 3 DVD sources. That's right, 3 different 'PAL' sources are needed for the footage this project requires.
2. Although I'm not expecting any fancy 'menus' or 'extras' added to this edit, I do need someone who's able to do clean cuts, and who's also able to retain the 5.1 surround sound too.
3. I'm also looking to find someone who's patient and willing to cut to my specific, exact 'cut-list' throughout, without changing anything. I've not come across a version of ALIEN 3 that ever satisfied me, whether 'official' or 'fan-edited', so I've spent a lot of time working out this particular 'combination' of the 2 'official' versions which I'd be very keen to see eventually.
To do this would entail me sending my exact descriptions and timings over a series of E-mails to any collaborator, but I'm not expecting this to be done quickly by anyone, as I'd rather they tried to cut it together with care instead, no matter how long it takes.
So if you fit these criteria Spartacus, then I'd certainly be interested in your help with this. But if not, no worries, as there's certain others I hope to contact eventually that may agree to take this on instead. Let me know either way. Thanks.

MemberTrilobite01/24/2012I get the direction you wanna take Cerv, and I have no problem attempting to pull it off.
BTW I think that all the bishop footage should be left in, the scenes where she grabs him and later on talks to him set up events later on.
The problem is, just from a creative point of view, I don't really see the point, because Hicks and Newt surviving is pointless, we never see their story concluded and they would be dead by Alien Rez, creatively its a unexplored and unnecessary loose end.

MemberOvomorph01/24/2012Heh, perhaps I was too cryptic in my previous post on page 4 Snorkelbottom, but I'm not sure you get the direction I want to take, at all.
So I'll clarify a few more things at this point -
1. ALL of Bishop's scenes would *definately* be included...as they won't affect the outcome I've got in mind, whatsoever.
2. As far as you not seeing the point of saving Newt and Hicks in ALIEN 3 from a creative point of view, since they would be dead by ALIEN REZ anyway, thus leaving an unexplored and unnecessary loose end - Well, thing is, they actually would be shown to survive BEYOND the events of ALIEN REZ in my versions too! The whole point of what I've got in mind is to portray these characters as being ALIVE and UNAFFECTED by the events of the last 2 sequels...while at the same time negating the more dubious aspects of these movies for me.
3. Finally, I'm looking for someone who'll be willing and able to do everything I've asked for in my initial post about all this, without trying to change ANYTHING I've got in mind for this. No-one has done what I have in mind yet, and even if they came up with a similar kind of solution, it's highly unlikely that they would end up using the exact same combination of footage and dialogue that I'd prefer to see.
I reckon there's a good chance of me eventually finding someone who's willing to do all of this exactly the way I want it from the pool of guys I originally had in mind...but if you're actually offering to have a crack at this yourself at some point Snorkelbottom, then I'm willing to take it further with you sometime.
What I *can* promise is that the person that does this will be the first to get a chance to evaluate how this will play. And hopefully, they will get as much satisfaction as I will of making this available to others who'd like to see this too, eventually.

MemberTrilobite01/24/2012Making it is no prob whatsoever Cerv I am just voicing what others will voice when it is finished, also I can do the cuts as per you instructions no prob, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will be good/bad cuts, it all depends upon your experience in the fields of narrative and editing, which I don't know whether you do or not?

Cervantes
MemberOvomorph01/24/2012Sure Snorkelbottom, some that may eventually see these versions might indeed voice certain critisisms, and that's fine. But whether the versions I have in mind are deemed good or bad by others is irrelevent to me...as either way, this may end up being the ONLY way that any of us will actually be able to watch a version where Ripley, Newt, and Hicks AREN'T killed off...
But as I'm a hell of a nit-picker myself, I had to ask myself if what I came up with would work in a satisfying enough way for me, personally. I'm happy to say it will, and I can give an explanation for every single alteration/addition I've chosen, to whoever ends up doing this, along the way.

Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/24/2012There would be no need for explanations along the way, just what cuts, swaps, removals, inserts... when and where. I'd do your version as you wanted it to the millisecond. Then if I disagreed I would do another cut, my cut to highlight the differences.
Just take into account that a film, just like a game, a level, a book, a comic, even a building, in fact anything with a structure (Narrative or otherwise) needs...
- Flow (hard to explain easy to show)
- Balance
- Logic
- Association
- Pace (yes buildings have pace)

MemberOvomorph01/25/2012Ha Ha, I like how you're already contemplating having to do a 'recut' of my proposed 'recuts'!
Well, since it seems as if you're offering to undertake these 2 edits on my behalf now Snorks, then I'm certainly willing to give it a go with you, if you are. :)
As long as I can end up getting my own *exact* versions cut of my proposed solution, then I certainly won't be offended in any way if you feel the urge to attempt a 'different take' of them afterwards, lol.
And as far as the other points in your last post are concerned, well there's only so much I can do to achieve the new outcome with the footage available, but let's see how things turn out...
My solution is simple at the end of the day, and doesn't involve any radical chopping up of the footage of these 2 sequels whatsoever, but will definately give the right impression I'd like to see. It won't be to everyone's taste, but then no-one needs to bother with it if that's the case, as they'll still have the 'official' versions.
So if I can ask you a couple of things at this point -
Have you ever actually cut a 'fan-edit' of an existing BLU-RAY or DVD movie before?
Are you definately wanting to go ahead with this with me sometime when it's convenient? (the ins-and-outs and how-and-when can be sorted out through PM's in future, if so)
If you are, can you let me know if you're able to REVERSE a single shot so that it goes backwards? - The soundtrack would remain the same, but ideally the shot would move in reverse. It can still work fine if not, however. Just curious.
Thanks for your continued interest.
