Hi guys and gals, first post so forgive me if this has been debated here before but having just watched all 3 Alien movies back to back (you'll notice I said 3!!!), it still bothers me immensely where the hell that egg or eggs came from and how they got on the Sulaco at the start of the movie. I've heard numerous ideas from other fans such as the queen laying them in the drop ship or that Bishop brought them with him. The most surreal suggestion being that a team of Spec ops arrived on LV 426 before the marines and obtained the eggs and then placed them on board while everyone was in cryo!!!!! I wish the writers could just explain this as it has a huge bearing on the overall franchise and as it stands it's a bit of a plot hole! Anyone any thoughts? again, I'm new so sorry if this has been debated before.

Easy. David fincher wanted ripley being infected And so he caused a plot hole as the queen is not supposed to lay eggs without Her egg trailer ;) Also, how come that the second facehugger Made it to the escape pod but did not try to facehug newt or hicks before they died through the crashlanding? Imo the weakest part of alien 3.

I agree it's the weakest part of Alien 3, a movie in which I really enjoyed even if it does leave me in a bit of a downer at the end!

I was 14 when i watched the movie With great expectations. Though i Think the movie was good overall, The beginning disturbed me, why were there eggs and it even was almost up side down hanging Probably at the dropship. then why did the facehuggers Came out and find the people invthe hypersleep chambers despite They were far away and also not moving? How come that ripley survived that crash Despite she was thrown out of The escape pod? That was really not convincing and imo the first real canon breaking.

For me...Alien 3...The Re mastered tribute to Lynch's efforts version...is nothing less than a 100% MASTERPIECE of film making !!! Of all 4 films, for me, it had by far the most substance and the most horrfying Xeno eating Human scenes, it also had the BEST camera work IMO of all 4 films, and it also used animatronics IMO better than any film in Motiion picture history!!!

Where are we getting two eggs? The queen layed one and it infected Ripley. There was a burn on Newt's cryotube but maybe it passed on her, in favor of Ripley's bigger child bearing body. Not sure where this notion came from...

@Skyguy1054 were getting two from the Dog/Bull depending on the version you like and Ripley getting infected....that makes two eggs, one for each host.

Wasn't there an egg onboard the sulaco and another onboard the EEV

Yes there were 2, one was on the Sulaco and the other stowed away on board the EEV. So annoying not to have an explaination WHERE they came from or HOW they got there. The queen couldn't have brought them up with her as it clearly shows her(minus the eggs) before Ripley and Newt board the drop ship and I'm fairly sure it said somewhere that the queen can't produce eggs without the sac! Very lazy on behalf of the writers not to explain this, even after all this time!

Not to mention the egg that was hanging upside down looked like it was inside the ship proper, not in the landing bay. It looks like the Marines locker room to me.

First off......there is no evidence to suggest two eggs. We only ever see one and it's seen in the opening title sequence. Given that, and if you follow the logic, the facehugger planted two embryos, one in Ripley and one in the dog or bull (depending on the cut you're watching)..We only ever see one facehugger as well, the one hanging from the ceiling as the dog barks at it during the EEV's transport by crane... .....granted, I'm as disturbed by anyone that one facehugger can plant two embryos, it's seems like a cheap plot fix, but I'm even more disturbed by the one egg's existence to begin with, because it doesn't track at all with the series of events at the end of 'Aliens'. And I'm not going to sit here and rag on Fincher either....he's the only one that saved that mess at all. Without Fincher coming in and pulling all the various bits together, there would be no movie and let's not forget that by the time he joined the production, the plot, overall was pretty much set and locked on a planet where Ripley's EEV crashes, monks or criminals, and the alien had to have come with her from the Sulaco....that bit's on the writers and producers who gave him that mess.....the man has no choice but to plant an egg randomly, because no one gave him anything better to work with.....

What amazes me is that the answer to all of this is so obvious and none of you have thought of it yet. I say the reasoning did not ever need to be put forth in the film because in LIFE it was always pretty darn easy to guess where EGGS CAME FROM. They don't just appear people, they have to be LAID first, either where they are and/or get transported later. Have any of you even thought about BURKE ??? Remember him? Company Man, gonna impregnate Newt and Ripley at all costs before they get back home...BURKE...remember him?

How would Burke get the eggs on there without getting facehugged himself??? I think we can just chalk it up the entire scenario to a plot hole.

Hey guys! Brand new member, first post. It's obviously not canon, but it's been sugested in the comics that, under extreme conditions, drones can lay eggs themselves, and usually those eggs will hold a queen. So if drones may lay eggs, who's to say the Queen can't lay eggs without the egg sack? The facehugger that holds on to Rippley and the one that catches the dog/bull on Alien 3 may very well have come from eggs layed in the ship by the Queen. Besides, the whole "where did they come from" issue is not so disturbing (Burke COULD have got the eggs on board on those containers we see in sick bay); why the second one didn't get a hold of Newt or Hicks is far more disturbing to me, because there is NO WAY to make sense of it... Unless they were dead already??? :P

@inguafoeda acheronsis......Burke dies on LV-426.....WHILE THEY ARE STRANDED......he never comes in contact with the second drop Bishop remote pilots to the surface....therefore, it's illogical and impossible for him to have had anything to do with the egg on board the Sulaco...... ....second...it isn't about whether the qeeun could lay an egg without the egg sack...it has everything to do with the fact the one egg is seen in 'Alien 3' to be perched on a wall, not in the landing gear of the dropship where the queen hid and the climax of 'Aliens' affords her absolutely no opportunity to lay that egg anywhere......she shows herself, rips Bishop in half, descends from the landing gear, chases Ripley to the bay doors, turns her attention to Newt when she realizes it's pointless to fight the door for Ripley, chases Newt across the floor of the loading dock as she lifts grate after grate, turns and fights Ripley to the death when Ripley returns in the power loader............THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO OPPORTUNITY IN ANY OF THAT FOR THE QUEEN ALIEN IN 'ALIENS' TO LAY THAT EGG ANYWHERE BUT THE LANDING GEAR OF THE DROPSHIP AND ....OH....GUESS WHAT....IT ISN'T IN THE LANDING GEAR...therefore, it's a plot hole with no explanation.....PERIOD..END OF STORY

Oh Craigo, You n I like to argue this. I still think there was an R&D Ship near the Nostromo. This explains the Egg's in A3 and how they were able to land inside a few days at Fiorina when the scan was sent back to network. It fills a bunch of holes everywhere. Regards, Rick

Craigo.....I like that.....makes me sound like an Eggo....... I see you're point, but that's always been too convoluted and too involved to be reasonable for me....there's no evidence to suggest it and in 'Alien 3', we have no idea the extent of the company's network in deep space or Fiorina's proximity to any other planets, spacestations or military outposts (that would otherwise have no reason to visit Fiorina).....I see what you mean, but it just feels like a poor excuse for a band-aid on any plot holes we quibble over.... I really do like that Craigo bit.....

And there's no reason for them to send the Nostromo if they have an R&D vessel either, it would be pointless, especially considering the tug's inadequacies in dealing with that kind of find..........the R&D vessel's crew would just go in themselves rather than risk any interference from crew on the Nostromo that would, of course, be trying to save their own lives. Why would they risk that threat to their prized alien specimen? There's no point in it...unless they had no other choice because the Nostromo was the only ship in a position to investigate....

Craigo, I think its all part of the companies xeno study program. Why send the R&D Ship and waste resources when the government will do it for you for free. Read this: I once read a story about a kid that went to jail for killing somebody but was still close to his grandpa and his grandpa never believed he did it. His grandpa wrote him letters everyday and one spring day the old guy wrote a letter to his grandson about how it had been several years and how he missed his help with the gardening in the backyard and was going to start digging up the garden. The grandson sent him a letter the next day asking him to not to dig up the garden that was where he hid the body. The next day the FBI and the police came beating on the old guys door and served him with a search warrant to dig up the garden. The came in with the shovels and dug up that whole garden area. The following week the old man received a letter from his grandson apologizing for the intrusion by the police but that was the best he could do on such short notice. I know you get the moral of the story there is always a sideways approach to getting what you want done accomplished when you think outside the box. Regards, Rick

OK, I don't know if this has already been discussed here, but the the whole egg on the Sulaco thing was set up at the end of Aliens. If you watch Aliens to the very end of the credits, James Cameron put a little audio suprise at the end of the movie. Listen carefully and you will hear the sound of an egg opening and a face-hugger emerging. Mr. Cameron had intended to film a sequel to Aliens, and this was how he set it up. I am sure that had his sequel been made, he had already figured out a plot device to explain this little suprise at the end of Aliens.

Guys...no sense arguing and debating where it came from. It was from the Plot Hole Abyss...where things happen without an explanation. It will be one of those mysteries until someone explains it but it has all been forgotten now....a lesson for writers every where and film makers...always back up what you shoot and do your best to explain it or you will lose the reader or audience faster than Vanilla Ice lost his career. =)

This is something that has bugged me for years too as it is not explained clearly. My conclusion: The one egg came up with the Queen. I read somewhere that when the Queen is in a situation that threatens the extinction of the Xenonmorph she can produce a Queen egg. This special egg houses a facehugger that contains 2 embryos, a Queen embyo and a Warrior embyo. When hatched the Warrior (in this case from a dog) will protect the host of the Queen during its gestation period which is longer than that of a regular Alien gestation period. So the Queen stuck this emergency Queen egg on the ceiling of the Suluco and somehow it detects movement in the cryochambers and the Facehugger investigates........
Burke never made it back to the Sulaco...he never had the chance to put one there...........
Has to be incorrect IMO because he clearly knew his way around that section of the ship, CLEARLY...so much so he actually backed his way into that area when he got eaten. Also this all heppened moments after he had gotten caught dumping two live specimens in Newt's & Ripley's sleeping qtrs... NO... IMO it was and could ONLY have been done by BURKE..it is the ONLY explanation that makes any sense what so ever!

Could have been Bishop. As an Synthetic Humanoid he could well have been controlled by the company without realising it. When he disapeared for a while whilst piloting the drop ship, he could well have simply stowed a face hugger and egg onboard, whilst Ripley was rescueing Newt. Hicks was unconsious so no one would have known. His inbuilt programming to protect all humans would have prevented him from leaving Ripley and Newt, but not from securing specimens to take back..... Perhaps he thought that the humans on the Sulaco would be safe from the Huggers as they were in Cryo....

But that doesn't work @brego...if he's working for the company, then everyone is expendable again and there's no point in him taking Ripley to save newt....he would have just said adios....don't you think?

In see that point re Bishop Craigmore, however Bishop was not working for the company, he was a Colonial Marine staffer, I believe. Perhaps the company hacked into his system to ensure that Xeno samples were brought back. Of course this plan didnt work, as we know. I dont believe that a Queen could have laid eggs or carried them onto the drop ship. So the only way would be for someone else to smuggle them on board. The only person is Bishop. Remember the scene (reminicent to Ash) where Bishop is studying the dead Facehugger in Med Lab, hes almost in a trance... I reckon that Bishop was being used by the Company. Also Bourke and Bishop explain that it is impossible for an Android to hurt humans as it is written in their code not to. Its the only logical explaination. Having said that, I like the mystery surounding tnhe upside down egg.

stupid really all they had to do was show facehuggers 2 of them no eggs at all... one facehugger could of got trapped and only free when the ship crashed.

Thought I would let you guys know that the upcoming Gearbox game : Aliens Colonial Marines takes place between the flims Aliens and Alien3. If you watch the second video (The one from E3) you will hear them talk about how this game is going to fill in all the "Plot Gaps" between the 2 films including how the eggs ended up on the Sulaco at the beginning of Alien 3. http://www.sega.com/alienscolonialmarines/ Hope this helps.

After the great transitiom from alien to aliens the transtion to the 3rd was very weak, great to read about the dubious egg on the EEV, which has always bugged me when watching the films. What I felt what was also weak, the EEV which came from an intergallactic military warship with all the weaponary, had no weapons in the survival pod????. Ok the thing which made number 3 was the lack of weapoms after the gunho aliens, but surely weaopons would be mandatory.
